My state scares me sometimes.

I hope I won't be wearing the wrong color when I happen to be standing in a "no gang" zone. Only I'm a white woman, so I doubt they'd harass me. Yes, this is going to end up being a racist and sexist law, in practice.

I need to find a pro-choice fund to donate to. I doubt the state started one for us. I need to look into what is meant by "proper procedures" in legal abortions. Poor doctors, facing criminal charges if they're not hyper-vigilant in doing the right steps, even if the desired result is still achieved. Ridiculous, Utah, seriously. Leave us and our doctors alone.

And geez, don't take in any abused teens! Let them think the whole world is against them! Are the proper state officials (whomever that is) going to tell the parents where the kid is? Hopefully just tell them that the kid is ok and being sheltered. I think I'd rather face the law than angry abusive parents.

to balance:

Heaven forbid that a doctor would be vigilant in practicing his or her work.

Barf

That's so Utah!

really?

>Regular folk can't give drugs to wildlife, especially birth control drugs.

I can't believe this was really an issue.

I agree with balance. I loved the first one, the texting while driving thing, I hate when a car is swerving toward me, I look over and find someone with a cell phone in their hand typing away.
Beyond that, most of the laws listed are a bit on the silly side. Very unecessary. There are so many good laws that should be taken into effect, why are we even wasting time and tax payers money to push these through.

It's probably because we were able to pass the drinking laws into effect that help us look like a normal state for the first time in...well forever, that they are trying to push more that bring us back to the dark ages we were in prior.

Conform. Consume. Obey.

Or join the revolution! ;-)

NEW LAW "Marriage license fees go up by $10, the money going to domestic violence shelters. And Lt. Gov. Gary Herbert can perform marriages."

If we are really serious about protect the sanctity of marriage shouldnt this fee go up to lets say $50,000. If you stay married for 50 years you then can get it back.

Silliness

Balance is right on, especially on the last point.

Im with Wayne
"Regular folk can't give drugs to wildlife, especially birth control drugs."
Really.....?
I am disappointed with the Deseret News with the wording alone.

People always miss the fact that there are 318 new laws, anyone notice if they bothered to remove 318 old laws???? We have gone law crazy in this country. We have giving way to much power to the Gestapo like police force we have. If we continue on this path, of make hundreds of laws a year, we will have so many laws how this could still be a free nation is beyond me.

@balance

Or, maybe the parents who are harboring these "abused teens" could help out by getting the kids to the proper authorities and proper help. What are you going to do, let the kids stay at your house for a week and then send them back to the abuse they tried to get away from? I don't see how taking in abused kids is going to help them. Furthermore, (although I don't know the exact language of the bill) it doesn't appear to say you can't keep the kids at your house, just that you need to notify the parents within 8 hours that they are at your house. What's the problem with that? Again, if you are worried for their safety because you told the parents they are staying at your house, then you should probably be getting other, more capable people involved in the situation.

eh?

Why make new laws when they don't enforce the old ones?

John

So does this mean i cannot give my cat the wifes birth contol pill?.....guess i should get it fixed before it has puppies!

Re:John

Cats can have puppies?

balance...

I agree with balance with exception of the first point. I think we should ask those suspected gang members to show us their gang member ID cards....oh, wait.....

Absurd law

So if my kids have a friend over to my house for any period of time longer than eight hours - I must contact the friends parents or "a proper state official" to avoid being guilty of a crime?

Sorry, but this sounds absolutely absurd. And just who is the "proper state official" that I am to call each and every day when kids are at my house playing?

re: Balance and Barf

If you don't like what's going on in Utah, nobody is forcing you to stay. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Dumb laws everywhere

Say what you will about Utah (I'm not a die-hard fan), but we're not the only state in the U.S. with ridiculous laws. Michigan lets blind people hunt. And there's a state that doesn't let people spit on the sidewalk (don't know which). Lawmakers need something to do and they get so much whining from ridiculous people that they feel the need to enforce stupid laws just to shut the whiners up. Regardless of state or dominant religion. It's just that simple.

Gun lover

Thanks. I LOVE my guns. I want to take them everywhere so I can hug them and kiss them. Thank you, again.

Sid

I honestly believe the stupid lawmaking will not stop untill every activity of humankind will be made illegal in one form or another so the gestapo can arrest you for anything at any time. Welcome to the police state. This is statutory law gone wild.

Majority rule only works with minority rights. So above comment dont forget you can easily become the minority, so watch what you say.
Remember that when you dont get things your way! Its only a matter of time until the atheist take over anyway.
