We must have new kinds of conversations, about pornography

I would like to see more discussions about people who overcame pornography - especially addicts. Somebody gets caught up in it, and loses hope and feels alone. The people who overcame it could remain anonymous. We never hear about those who leave it behind, or who overcome it. A few 12-step groups address it, but not much. Most Bishops still have no clue how to help somebody out of it. Even many psychiatrists are not experienced in it. All of this contributes to the secrecy of pornography addiction, which makes it even worse and drives it deeper.

I know because I am an addict in it. As of 15 years. And I know no way out, and there is nobody, it seems, who really understands it.

The guilt-laden message only drive it deeper into addicts. The "shame on you" message, even if truthful and justified, only make it worse.

We LDS condemn this awful plague, as we should, but we have almost zero success in helping people out of it. We are great at condemning evil things, but terrible in helping people overcome it.

We have much to learn.
