It's good to see these women remembered. There is much to learn from them.
I am still not sure why i even am supposed to want to hold the priesthood? Honestly i am so blessed with a husband that makes my life so pleasent
The scripture in Ephesians 5 is often quoted by religious critics without verse 25:
"Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it"
If i would understand the priesthood as my husband does, it would simple mean to be in constant service to others and especially to me as his wife. Why would i want that? I rather enjoy having him serving me:-)
I think you might have never experienced a happy marriage anonymous, to me to hold the priesthood doesnt matter at all. I marvel at Gods plan for his children and how things work so perfectly when Gods wisdom is followed.
Please! I am sure you cannot name me one Pope, Bishop, priest or Catholic theologian that believes Mary should be elevated to be part of the Trinity. No Catholic who is even half-educated about their faith believes that. I'm sure you have some Mormons among you who have some illiterate beliefs too.
All of the Christian churches need to elevate the role of women in their churches...in heaven their will be no male, female, Mormon or Catholic!!
Organized Religion puts WOMEN in the position behind the donkey and the sheep.
Men wrote the Bible, only men, mortal men trying to control what was going on. Couldn't get a better job I guess..
A bunch of old men...always the cause of trouble. " Go bake me a pie Martha while we men cause more trouble in the world...and I'm not gonna write in my little book about you, the sheep are more important.."...
And some of the major religious men maybe haven't "needed" women....females only get in the way...so why mention them?... nasty creatures..
Read the Code of Hemmurabi created around 1760 B.C. that's your 10 commandments.
Without women...none us would be here.
MOMS ARE SUPER COOL!!!!, WOMEN ARE SUPER COOL!!!
Comments worried about who gets credit where and who has power to do something are exactly why women have been protected. Today's world is not providing such shelter and respect for women... especially as it strives for "equality". It's true women through history have been repressed in certain societys (and are today). But "credit" and "power" is not how we provide equality (that is mortal's misguided definition). Equality can be provided while preserving sanctity. The sanctity of womanhood is something we probably don't fully understand. If it weren't for women, we wouldn't be. Women are one of God's greatest creations. Wonderful women who don't care about the credit or the power is what men and all people should be striving to be like. I am grateful for a selfless mother who gave all for my life, comfort, and well being.
Equal Rights
Equality does not mean that we are similar or should have the same roles in life. Equality does not mean that we all want to work and refuse to be stay at home mums.
It means that we have an equal say in decisions, whether they be spiritual or temporal, that will affect our lives as women and making sure that these decisions are made with a view to protecting everyone's interest, including that of women, not with a view to glorifying one at the expense of the other, ensuring the happiness of one by the total sacrifice of the others or allowing the dominion of one over the other. Equality means that women have equal representation, decision making in all aspects of life that will have a bearing on their physical, emotional and spiritual well being and ensuring that these decisions are made with a view to protecting the family from abusive and destructive behaviour of any sort.
Why are there so many divorces today ; because when a relationship becomes too detrimental to the emotional, physical and material well being of a family, women and children included, she can say no rather than suppressing herself.
I'm giving a talk in my congregation tomorrow about the importance of mothers and there are plenty of women who are important in the scriptures. Deborah has to be one of the coolest women in all of the LDS scripture spectrum (I like the alliteration, it's so much more fun than saying "standard works.")I also admire Esther and Mary Magdalene in the Bible. In the Book of Mormon, Sariah and Abish are also really great individuals. For those of you blinded souls who say women have no significance in the church, especially when citing Paul, SHAME ON YOU! The great downfall of the evangelicals or "born agains" is they don't read all of Paul's words when condemning we Mormons. To the Saints at Corinth, Paul wrote, "neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man in the Lord (1 Corinthians: 11: 11). In other words, we need each other.
The reason more women aren't mentioned in the Bible, is to protect their NAMES from being used by the vile mouths of those who habitually use the most Sacred names to cuss and swear!!
And many times...only for strong emphasis of a thought or feeling.
Those who created us and this world, are willing to suffer the indignities themselves, but, they protect their women.
Just by knowing the name of Christ's mother...I have heard people say "Mary, mother of ___"...just as a slang expression. How thoughtless and completely disrespectful is that!!
What small minds to not be able to just think up nonsensical words to use, when expressing strong emotions...rather than use the most sacred names in the history of our existence.
TV Producers...get a clue!! Surprise us with your ingenuity, rather than use sacred expletives that shock us...and drop your ratings!!
I say let's give both women and men the respect they deserve, thereby showing respect for ourselves and those around us!
I am so grateful for my own father and mother's names, just for giving me my life!!
The Roman Church has a very high regard for Mary as well as the Reformers; Luther,Calvin...and have the creeds in common, none speak of Mary as a part of the Holy Trinity. I would be more concerned about the Gnostic scolars, trying to include the Gospel of Thomas as cannon,it is not really a Gospel, but a list of sayings. example, Logion (114)Simon Peter said' to them,"Let Mary leave us,for women are not worthy of Life.' The early Chrsitian knew what is was doing when the Bible was completed.
When I read the DN I am usually first in line when I see LDS doctrine mangled and misrepresented. Having studied in depth the Latter-day Saints, I cringe when I read things that are distorted. Now, as a Catholic, I get my turn to make a correction. Never in my 59 years have I ever heard of anyone who is Roman Catholic mention that Mary as a fourth member of the Holy Trinity. I wish the writer of this article had done some basic elementary research before making such a statement. This is precisely how falsehoods take start. I am sure Latter-day Saints will be familiar with such mis-respresentations of their own Faith.
Ruth and Naomi are my favs
but I'm a sucker for a love story, which ends happily.
Lilith kinda got bad a lousy PR agent, Salome, and Mary Magdaline didn't do so well either.
Seems a mental contortion to venerate women using the Bible, which names EVERY woman unclean each month, and for the most part property of their father or husband.
and for Father's Day don't forget the heroic King David, the guy who's love for a man,(Jonathan) surpassed his love of women.
Thank you "Catholic Man"
What exactly is Esther a model of? Use what you have to your own good advantage? In the Book of Esther, the real role model is Vashti, who told the king where to get off.
Lets not forget all the women & girls treated so poorly, unforgiveable in some instances by the men in their lives.
Anonymous...referring to your line about David if you dont understand brotherly love particularly that of those in battle, please don't speak. Homosexuals try to twist the scriptures to mean something and say that one line against every other line in the scriptures means their ways are anything other than lustful and sinful. I am not a homophobe no believe the mere thoughts are a sin, they are a test and trial just as suicidal thoughts or just as the thoughts pedophiles have, but what sets the righteous apart is not the thought but the choice NOT to act. That said, in battle there is a special brotherly love for those who fight together. Ask someone who is currently in the military what they would do for each other, particularly those they are friends with. They feel a special connection (a special INNOCENT nonsexual connection)
Google "Julia Ward Howe." You'll find that the real purpose of Mothers' Day wasn't to celebrate mothers, it was a call for women to join in a pacifist movement in response to the U.S. Civil War.
So much hate, so little time!
