AK you are playing in NBA! not in Europe! you gonna beef up some muscles to continue compete every year, if you don't have interest in gaining the right weight then just quit and maybe play in Europe rather in NBA..it's not ordinary for an NBA player to loose weight as his career continues,. maybe you can maintaim but that's very seldom to happen, if you looked at players on their rookie years as their career continues, almost all of them gain weight, the problem with AK is he is loosing weight which is very abnormal in an active player like him.. sometimes those bumps that you take in every game, your body will come to a point that it had enough, as a result you loose your intensity and you don't play that hard anymore, that's what happens to AK,. but if you work out continiously and gain some muscles, your body won't give up that easily against those bumps and bruises that you take every game
Don't you guys have a bird feeder and a chicken coop for this guy????
I love the playoff ticket ads that are still running on this web site and placed in this story. For a paper losing ad revenue you would think keeping the sponsorships you do have up to date would be a focus.
trade the guy already
The Jazz want him to be around 245 pounds so he can replace Boozer in the line up. I think if Greg would up the per diem he could afford to buy more food. Heaven forbid somebody gaining weight with only $150 per diem. I could even eat very well on that. Raise the per diem and Kirilenko can afford to eat more. Problem solved.
"We have a great chemistry in the locker room." I am so glad. But that does not win games, especially in the play offs. What it takes is making baskets and defending on the floor. I can have a great relationship after work going to the bar with my buddies but that does not mean I get the Job done.
Come on G. Miller. Set some Goals that will take the Jazz much higher and then make them work.
If I were AK I would be all over this. Here's an opportunity to do what he wants. He's wanted to play the 4 spot ever since he got here; that's where he is best. In the European Tournament his team won it all and he won the MVP of the tourney as a 4. I think the Jazz might be positioning themselves to start AK at the 4, bring Millsap off the bench, and lose Boozer. Bulk up big time AK.
AK47 + Steriods = Ivan Drago, "I must break you!"
AK seemed as interested in gaining weight as I am in becoming comma man's best friend. Ain't going to happen. Everyone talks of trading AK--Good luck on that one. Who would want his contract? YOu can say Golden State wants him but not for that kind of money. Here is what I see happening:
Boozer walks.....Everyone else stays except Collins and knight. We don't sign anyone new except our draft picks. No trades. We finish with 50 wins and 7 in the conference. Jerry resigns at end of season.
AK needs to be traded if some team can be found to be so dumb. You don't pay a person max money to come off the bench. That's a major fault with Sloan and KOC. AK's contract is killing the Jazz. He needs to go.
Likely lose to Oregon, who most have in the top 10.
Lose a close one to TCU on the road.
Dominate BYU on our home field to the south, where Utah has won 6 of the last 8. I hear they're thinking of renaming it Rice-Eccles South.
10-2, Holy War blowout, and tie for conf champs with TCU. Win another bowl game, because that's just what Utah does. I'll take that anyday. Next BCS game in 2011 with Jordan Wynn and Shak. Maybe Orange this time (Sugar & Fiesta are getting old).
I am not impressed with AK's comments. I feel like it shows the guy lives in his own little dream world. I am an AK fan and supporter but this does not make him look good at all. How could he act so shocked and frustrated? Does he not realize how skinny and weak he is?
I can't believe he seemed so annoyed and admitedly frustrated for the Jazz to tell him how to take care of his body. The Jazz are paying him so much and he seems to think they are idiots.
I doubt from his comments that he is going to make a serious effort, I bet he comes back within 10lbs of where he is right now.
I can think of a lot of things I'd like to ask AK to do (or not do, as it were).
Among them:
Please stop driving to the basket. It results in turnovers and comically-bad missed shots 99% of the time.
Please stop shooting the ball. You're an honorary member of the brick mason's guild by now.
Please do the right thing and re-negotiate your contract. Only two people on this planet believe you are worth the money you're getting paid - You, and Kevin O'Connor. There was a third person who did, but (sadly) he is no longer with us.
If none of the above scenarios are agreeable to you, then please consider a fourth option: Do everything in your power to force a trade.
Spasibo, i do svidaniya, tovarisch.
The problem is not his weight its his shot. Everytime he shoots it reminds me of a seveth grader learning to shoot for the first time. It's the same story every year. The jazz have paid this guy close to 15 million dollars and he never gets any better. I have lost patience and hope for him. Get rid of him at all costs!
Sure it would be nice if AK could play power forward and play inside more without getting pushed around. He's still the Jazz best shot blocker but lately he's mostly stuck chasing quicker perimeter players around on defense. Even as a small forward he'll drive inside a lot and end up missing layups or getting the ball stripped with minimal contact that doesn't draw a foul. He should be finishing more of these plays easily with his length. The physical weakness really is more of an issue than it needs to be at this point.
Some coach or manager said on the radio that they don't expect AK to be Schwarzenegger they just want him to work on his strength a little bit. Meanwhile, AK is still in denial. He would rather sit around playing World of Warcraft than do his job. He should have been practicing his jump shot more, lifting weights, and drinking some 5000 calorie shakes all along but now the Jazz finally bring it up and he whines about it.
Needs to bulk up his brain!!!
Sounds like the Jazz are expecting to be short at the 4 spot next year.
I side with AK47 on this one. After drafting him and honoring his contract in Russia 10 years ago they should have told him then the desired weight and fat / muscle ratio that they wanted. He could be a monster as power forward if he had gained but 5 pounds of muscle per year in the 10 years. Now imagine AK at 275 going into this year !
I don't know if it has anything to do with AK playing the power forward spot next season or not. But the fact is that Kirilenko is too weak to play even the point guard spot.
Seriously, how is a guy in the NBA for eight seasons and never picks up a dumbell once? His weight is one thing, but strength is another and Andrei's upper body is pathetically weak. I've never seen any NBA player regardless of weight who loses the ball as easily as AK when in the lane.
While LeBron takes bodychecks and finishes three point plays regularly, a mild gust of wind is enough to put AK on his back and the ball goes flying wildly.
I bet he can't bench press 185 lbs once, which is the weight rookies are tested on how many times they can rep it. For example Brewer did 19 reps, Millsap and Deron did 15 reps each and Ronnie Price did 11.
How has it taken 8 years for the Jazz to ask him to bulk up? Seriously.
If we really plan on playing AK at PF, we have major issues. The last time I checked, Jerry Sloan is still our coach and Deron is still our star. AK could post great numbers at PF when had nobody else, but he's just better suited for an uptempo philosophy. Trade AK and #20 to Golden State for Jamal Crawford, Ronny Turiaf and #7. We re-sign Millsap and move Brewer to SF. Crawford will replace Boozer's lost scoring and we'll actually become a better low post defending team and harder to stop on the perimeter on the other end.
