More hate, intolerance and bigotry.

K

Thank you, Rep. Chaffetz!

HH

I think it's ironic that Marion Barry voted against same-sex marriage. I seem to remember a law that outlawed interracial marriages and did not give Barry the right to marry outside of his race! Interestingly, when voters began to see their "hate" overturned by the Courts to protect the minorities, many churches and so-called Christians were in an uproar about interracial marriages. History does repeat itself, and our society is just too bigoted and stupid to recognize that we just went through all of this around 50 years ago! Bunch of idiots!!!

Find Something Important

You're a Republican (Less government?
Why do you care if 2 consenting adults want to commit, contribute and benefit from the same rights you have. Another extreme example of intolerance! The Republicans keep putting their foot in their mouths - it's people like Chaffetz that will keep the party down- wake up Americans are sick of this type of legislation, focus on the important things right now, the economy, education, healthcare- fight something good instead of something that divides!

John C.

I find it amazing that the only argument gay right activist can use is hate language. They start spouting off that we are bigots and intolerant. Which they know is fare from the truth. This is a morality issue for our society not a civil right argument. It has nothing to do with civil rights no matter how they try to twist it. Yet they call names, vilify people and faiths and have destroyed property and still try to make themselves look like victims. The only victim is society at large. There is nothing about homosexuality that improves society. There is nothing about unfaithfulness in a marriage that helps society. We need to help build our society not continue to destroy it.

It's funny anytime someone disagrees with the homosexual agenda in anyway they are labled as hatefull intolorant bigots. If your gay I don't care,
just quit trying to force your own bigoted agenda
on me in the name of civil rights or equality you just want to be more equal than the rest of us.

Ed

People are making a commitment to settle down. It's quite a conservative notion. What's wrong with that?!?!

I see some well thought out arguments here on behalf of supporting marriage. But there are some bad ones too. Bad arguments don't help. I don't think that a religious reason belongs in the debate. Religious morality overlaps with public morality so Martin Luther King didn't have to resort to religious reasons to fight discrimination even if he was a minister.

It isn't a conservative issue either. I think that it is the ultimate liberal/progressive issue of our time. We are talking here about fighting poverty through sending a signal by protecting marriage. We are talking about threats against freedom of conscience.

Do you want diversity? It is the ultimate in cultural bigotry to conclude someone is backwards simply because of their religious or culural beliefs. That turns diversity on its head.

Tolerance? Are we going to accept Perez Hilton as just a normal part of American society?

What about moral relativism. If moral relativism is acceptable then there is no point of talking about human rights or in saying that slavery or genocide is evil.

Thank you Mr. Chaffetz for being morally upright and courageous against those that destroy civilization.

hmm...

Well if we keep letting the Republicans decide what will make society better and make laws that prohibit 'undesireable nonbeneficial society choices' then where will it end?

It will become a 'slippery slope' as the Republicans like to say.

And I thought Republicas were all about the government being less intrusive on its citizens. Such bull..

Cats

Thanks Jason. You're doing EXACTLY the right thing.

Destroy civilization? Look who got destroyed in the elections over their intolerant views!

Repubs, your times is limited here. There are more and more liberals and youth coming to Utah. We will prevail.

Kevin

Regarding the subject of hate, hate, though regrettable, is OK as long as it does not lead to violence. I openly hate religion. I hate religion because it is morally fraudulent and intellectually dishonest.

But the difference is this: hate is not OK when it is encapsulated into the legal code, be it my hate of religion or your hate of homosexuals.

Joe

I wish the intolerant religious nutcases would quit trying to force thier religious views on everyone. The government must treat all equally! something the religions (Religion = Nazi) don't understand.

Economic issues matter and marriage is an economic issue. Studies show that married people are slightly healthier (less costs) and wealthier (pay more taxes) than their single counterparts and this is true for gay people as well. Therefore, it is in the state's best economic interest to grant marriage equality. This is because there are thousands of rights and responsibilities that come with the legal contract of marriage (yes, marriage is a legal contract).

Jeremy

As a gay man, I am disappointed in Jason - but not surprised... He did want to put illegals in camps, so... But so many people on this board are saying, "Oh, they vilify us calling us bigots..." and "Quit trying to force your gay agenda down our throats!" Well, glass houses people... We have been having religious rhetoric jammed down our throats for centuries.

I believe that every private organization should have the right to accept what it wants. If a church says, "We don't accept gays.." fine... I don't want to be a part of that church anyway! Organizations have the right to be idiots... But the GOVERNMENT is my government too, and they do NOT have the right to invalidate my marriage. I am legally married to my husband, and there is nothing anyone can say that changes that. YOU don't have to like it, but that doesn't make it untrue. I don't care about your acceptance, you can still hate me, but I still get to be me. I live with my husband, having a government contract changes nothing for you, even if you'd like to pretend it does.

Gay Guilt

No legislative or judicial success can take away the guilt that comes from failure to live up to the evolutionary design to have offspring with an opposite gender mate.

Marriage is a religious issue. The economic issue is a civil contract between two people. Marriage or not, these relationships exist and always have, and always will. I have come to the conclusion that marriage will not destroy civilization, nor the traditional marriage, nor have any practical effect on any of us who are not directly involved. Opponents are still free to follow their religious principles. The law does not necessarily follow. By the way, Chaffetz has zero influence. Period.

MinisterinCT

It is a sad day indeed when one neighbor would deny another neighbor something so sacred the first would not surrender their access to it themselves. Where hatred is not the motive, there is, nonetheless a regrettable stinginess of spirit in those who would deny another the bond of marriage simply because a couple is of the same gender. If you think because you are religious you are somehow morally superior or righteous, or more evolved (Gay Guilt commentator take note) or especially blessed, then I suspect your religion is little more than security blanket to which you cling to because you cannot bear the weight of your own humanity which demands engagement in the hard work of love and justice, fellowship and peace. At least be honest with yourself: If you go to church to hear how much better you supposed are than others then find another church. Only then may you finally see. Peace to you.
