I liked that last part:
"These crimes exist," Tolman said. "They're here in Utah, and they're no longer being ignored."
I wonder how much longer it would have went on without the aid of some serious money backing the need to be concerned.
If Utah would just pass a law that provides stiff punishment for those who hire illegal aliens, this problem would end.
Thank heavens for Federal grants. Our legislature would never think of budgeting money for something as mundane as illegal trafficking of people.
Enforce the illegal alien laws and end a multitude of problems. The people know it, guess the legislature is still unconvinced.
This is a good bill, with good enforcement planning and funding, (they will need more).
This is the dark side of illegal immigration. One that needs light shown upon it. One may be smuggled into Utah willingly, But that can change in the blink of an eye and the person becomes enslaved.
U.S. Attorney Tolman, free those people! There is no excuse for SLAVERY. Especially in this Nation.
Buy the way, where are the advocates for illegal immigration on this issue. You know, Chamber of Commerce, Catholic Church, Episcopal Church, LDS church, Politicians, Women's League of Voters, Work Force Services, United Way. Sutherland Institute, Tony Yapias, La Raza, Brown Beret, Mecha, AFL-CIO,Immigration Lawyers, Compassionate citizens, etc...... Where were these people and groups at the legislature, speaking against trafficking in human beings.
