Wa hoo! 200 new jobs at $8.00/hr. SHOW ME THE $$$$. Only positive thing is you'll always be clean with the products they make.
Great News | 12:35 p.m. May 6, 2009
I'll bet the jobs pay more than $8 an hour, but its good for Utah tax base -- they'll pay taxes and help support economic activity in and around northern utah.

Is part of the job interview saying the name of the company three times, really fast?

See, you don't have to ship jobs overseas. You can just slightly make a profit by keeping things regional and paying the employees nothing. But, wait, they can get health care if they work there for a year. Hehe. Where do I sign up?
wallofvoodoo | 2:26 p.m. May 6, 2009
Of course they don't pay $8 per hour, I bet they pay a whopping $9 per hour.
Great Job | 2:43 p.m. May 6, 2009
Another reason why Huntsman has done such a nice job running Utah. You can make fun of the manufacturing business all you want, but there are a lot of people in Michigan that would love to hear news like this in their own state. A diversified work-force is a great asset.
Good Job | 3:41 p.m. May 6, 2009
I wonder if they should have built this plant in Box Elder. If I am not mistaken they have lost alot of manufacturing jobs over the past couple of years, this would have been a good boost for their economy.

I am glad you guys are all so smart. How do you know what there pay structure is going to be? Maybe you think that someone who sweeps the floor should make $20/hour.

You get paid for what you are worth to a company. If what you do can be done by tens of thousands of other people then you aren't worth as much. It is called supply and demand. If any of these people working in low paying jobs are still working at the same rate 2-3 years after starting they get what they deserve. Most people take these jobs to get experience and then gain other skills that lead to better paying jobs.

What a bunch of idiots!!!

Huh! "...negotiations with the Governor's Office of Economic Development, the Economic Development Corporation of Utah and Tooele County..." Did they make a 'pay no taxes' deal?

you have NO SENSE OF HUMOR WHATSOEVER!
Taxpayer | 9:03 p.m. May 6, 2009
Good news indeed!

Private enterprise at work. They need to distribute their products, and we provide a good location with a good work force, and a business friendly tax climate.

No need to borrow millions of dollars from our kids and waste it on make believe projects that deliver little in the way of actual goods and services, but provide an excuse for sleazy politicians to brag about all the jobs they created.

Government intervention is NOT the secret to job creation. FREE MARKET CAPITALISM is the solution!

How many consessions were made for this deal thta will cost the tax payer?
boise/pam | 11:32 p.m. May 6, 2009
Well, hopefully while you are at the motorsports park you won't be overcome by toxic fumes while they're mixing all those chemicals. I wouldn't be excited about having it close to lots of people gathering. Why not put it more in the boonies. Good lucks guys.

Another warehouse??? Utah rejoices when other states sue to prevent this type of economic exploitation! Companies win workers lose as a result of 100's suffering from a false sense of security. Stats prove this type of employer leads to MORE regional crime and MORE regional public assistance...

The tax concessions make sense because the jobs created are still beneficial. Without the company there would be zero taxes anyway. Also, no-one is forcing people to work at the company. If the wages aren't competitive the salaries will eventually have to be raised.

A company makes an investment in Utah and look at the comments by the socialist idiot brigade complaining about low wages and tax concessions. No wonder formerly American companies are moving jobs out of the US to get away from such an ungrateful public. How many jobs have you complainers created, and what do they pay?
NC | 9:39 a.m. May 7, 2009
Well since I brokered the deal for the county, most of these comments are far off base. First off, the pay will be $15.50 per hour with benefits. Those benefits will start within the probationary period. There is actually less crime with this type of business in the area. This is a distribution facility, no mixing of chemicals. The tax concessions are readily made up for with a 49 million payroll where people will have homes, buy groceries, clothing, etc. If your out of work, this is an opportunity better than unemployment which costs the taxpayer more than any tax concession this company would ever get.

RE: Idiots and NC

Thank you for most reasonable and realistic comments on this board. Jobs are created at a distribution facility that picked Tooele County Utah based on its low tax rate and location, and people are nitpicking wages and benefits that haven't been released. I am proud to live in such a business friendly county, and I encourage more business to come. This is how true jobs are created, low taxes promote business to come and produce jobs, income, and tax revenue.
TO Idiots | 11:40 a.m. May 7, 2009
Actually, the people you are mocking help to create more jobs in our country than any corporate entity. And they are recession-proof jobs as well. All these people need to do is keep complaining, listen to MSNBC and voila - government jobs come out of the woodwork. The biggest "employer" in the free world. Well, used to be free.
You and I would much rather a company break ground on a 10-person facility than see more government intervention. Unfortunately, we are in the new minority as defined by Colin Powell.
Craig P | 12:01 p.m. May 7, 2009
Whether they pay 8 dollars and hour or 12 dollars an hour, the new facility will still help the economy here in Utah.
The money spent on utilities, materials, transportation, waste, taxes, insurance and so on will all positively affect the economy... I see nothing wrong with this company coming to Utah.
Free Enterprise means Freedom | 12:06 p.m. May 7, 2009
For all you "government backed jobs" supporters out there - if you want a job like what they are offering, which is no better than working on the chain gang, then move to Russia or Venezuela or Cuba. This is not Freedom - it's prison. Do you think there is security in your government job? Let me tell you from experience - come every four years, you are going to have to worry that your job will get cut with a new president. When we work together freely, creating jobs out of the need to provide a service that is profitable to the provider, then we all benefit.

As for tax incentives, it will cost the government a lot more than $1.9M if we don't get this plant. It's a good idea, it brings growth, encourages other companies to establish at the same site...how many new roads to nowhere can do that?

Obama is an idiot. You can't create a rat wheel big enough to satisfy the self-entitled whiners of this world...you will have to work hard yourself to resolve this mess. This is what working TOGETHER means...

I'm a tenant inside Miller Motorsports Park. I'm not particularly excited about this news. Nevertheless, there will definitely need to be improvements made to the roads in and out of the area. Widen & extend Sheep Ln. to I-80, widen and improve safety of SR138, etc.
NC | 2:44 p.m. May 7, 2009
To the tenant inside Miller Motorsports Park. Your concerns are being watched. The county has no intent to let the transportation routes get clogged with traffic. Your just as important as any other business.
