All that wild "Alaska" salmon goes to CHINA first?? Makes me want to start my own trout pond or something. Not pleasant to know, but I appreciate your calling attention to it. I will be spending a lot mroe time reading the small print.

It would be a very simple thing for countries with an anti-American agenda to get rid of us; just taint our food with melamine and other sickening chemicals. It they do it will be the fault of big busiensses who are more interested in making a buck than keeping our food safe.

A fish story | 10:03 p.m. May 7, 2009
After reading this, I went to my freezer and looked at that package of Wild Alaska Salmon and found that it was a "product of Thailand." All this time I had imagined it being pulled out of the cold, pristine waters and shipped directly to my grocery store from Alaska. In the future i think I'll buy farmed Canadian salmon than spend extra bucks on wild salmon that was 'outsourced" all the way across the ocean. Outsourcing auto parts and even calling centers is one thing, but food is better when it's closer to home.

I first noticed this when seeing that my Dole peaches were from Turkey or some other source and processed in Thailand or China. They are now labeled just China. I started reading the labels more closely and avoiding things shipped half way around the world to be processed. Why are we not able to eat the great peaches grown in Utah and processed here? My favorite peach orchard in Orem was sold to developers because the owners could not make a living growing peaches.

Yet the experts that oversee public health insist that we eat plenty of fish and other seafoods. . . As far as canned fruit is concerned, have you ever looked closely at the nutrition section on your average canned fruit label? NONE! Mostly just empty calories!
