I cannot believe they are considering this when their revenue is down. How can they expect a new, pretty building when citizens are suffering?

No City hall until they do something about the Police Department. There are so many problems in the police dept, a good house cleaning is in order before any projects get started in this city. I have a good friend who is a Midvale Policeman. I shiver when he lists the problems within the police.
Loader and the mayor need to wake up and do something.

They are talking about another tax increase while dreaming for another city hall. Instead of adding new stores on the new site west of the city, they just build more apartments. Dream on.

Get rid of Dahl field to build a city hall? How stupid. There are already not enough venues for kids to play sports in Midvale. How about knocking down the old city hall and build the new on on site. Buy and tear down the houses on South Allen St that are adjacent and use that space. There is plenty of space there.

As far as the police department is concerned? Two words. Tony Mason. There has never been a more unqualified police chief than Tony. Back when Maughan was the chief, the city council passed an ordinance that the Chief of Police have a Masters Degree. They disregarded that when they hired Patience and again for Mason. Two of the worst chiefs in Midvale history. Maybe they repealed that ordinance. How short sighted of them if they did.

"But with declining sales-tax revenue and no impact-fee collection, the City Council is increasingly wary of new expenditures."

Does Midvale wonder why they have declining sales tax revenue, it's because we hardly have ANY business that can generate those sales tax revenues. Midvale allowed Costco to move out and that area has remained pretty much empty, they started building something there but now its on hold. The old Smiths/Petco store near Quilted Bear had been empty for years. If you drive down State street many of those shops are gone or on their way out. On Center Street they've allowed a gas station, bowling alley and a pawn shop to go out of business and nothing is being built there. Midvale doesn't do anything to attract stores to the area. They let the shopping center across from B&D get torn down to be replaced by a few townhomes. Silly mistakes Midvale. We need business and you've scared them all off. and don't build on a baseball field. Stupid!!!
No business | 11:38 a.m. May 21, 2009
Midvale has half of the apartments in the Salt Lake Valley and no grocery stores. They keep building apartments and watch the renters buy their necessities in Sandy and Murray. No new sales tax revenue. Duh, how come?

Mike,
the police are so bad right now. A removal of the chief and most of the administrators is needed. I wonder what will happen when they have to hire back the guy they fired illigall? Can you say payout!
