regulate Carbon Dioxide as a pollutant. Are we going to be required by law to keep track of the number of breaths we take? Every living, breathing thing on the planet exhales carbon dioxide. And then are we to pay a carbon tax on breathing?
With the way the left wants regulate and tax every move we make, it would seem logical that it would be the next step.
this is absolutly preposterous, the very fact that they are looking at cow gas as a source of harmful greenhouse gases is ridiculous, odviously the feds have WAY too much time and maoney on thier hands. It wouldn't suprise me in the future if they started to do the same thing with people, in the mean time let the feds know how stupid this is.
Carbon taxes= more money to the government! They have done it folks, they have found a way to tax the air we breath! Does anyone really think this will help the environment one bit? It's all about money, as usual! It works everytime, invent a crisis and get money to solve a nonexistant problem!
The environmental wackos are destroying the country and our way of life. Environmentalism is a religion and the zealots become more wacky all the time. In California they now want to ban black cars because they absorb more heat than light colored cars. The carbon tax will double gasoline prices and increase utility bills by 50%. Are you minnion who think we need to save the earth happy?
QUOTE: ...Cathy Milbourn, an EPA spokeswoman, couldn't be more blunt: "There is no planned tax on livestock emissions. There is no cow tax, period."

Cheesh...what part of "there is NO cow tax" has set off this fear-mongering set of cost estimates based on nothing along with disaster-thinking in the comments? Did no one read the entire article? Just how would the EPA go about monitoring and measuring the methane gas produced by an individual cow or herd? Are all cows equal or does methane production change depending on maturity and weight of the cow? And what about pigs? Would we start to raise cows and pigs indoors so that methane gas could be captured and either neutralized or used for alternative energy? Or would we develop specialized grass and hay to reduce or eliminate methane in nature's animals? Or better yet, let's all go vegetarian!!! Healthier, lowers food bills, and eliminates need for more cows (ergo, fewer emissions). Careful of this simple math used in this complex problem. Take a deep breath and calm down. No, no, not next to that cow...
Wish I had a penny every time a government official said we are not going to do this and wham they surprise you with something, I would be fairly wealthy. They don't call it a tax, they call it a fine, or a levy, or a clean air requirement, or whatever their little minds can dream up.
When they talked with her, you didn't see her hold her hand behind her back with her fingers crossed, which means everything I say is not true.
The earth gets cooler and warmer. IF you figure that WE are causing most of it, you have to take into account things most people don't.
0. The solar wind is at a 50 years low, which could cause global cooling.
1. The rain forests are critical. Burning and clearing rain forests are a bigger deal re: greenhouse gases than cars. Remember the Harrison Ford ad with the tape on his chest being ripped off?
2. You have to take into account that Methane Gas, (not burned) released in to the air is much worse than burning it. Methane gas is worse than CO2 re: "greenhouse" gases.
3. You have to take into account that methane released into the atmosphere often comes from several non-man sources: Wetlands, cows belching, termites, permafrost, etc.
Most of us are willing to agree with cleaner air, water and land, that said, I am not worried about the CO2. I am worried about the cow belching and termites. :)
Looks like the writers at the deseret news and the govenor have bought in to Al Gores cap and trade scam hook line and sinker, it's obvious to the informed reader that cow methane emmisions have nothing to do with climate but everything to do with political manipulation of the economy taxes and the populous in general. The misinformation that is being constantly repeated by the greenies including what now appears to be the parroting of it by the deseret news should be taken as a grain of salt for what it is, a bunch of hot air.
A simple fact no one seems to be talking about. I wonder why?
Plant-life needs and uses CO2, and produces oxygen which we need and use.
It seems CO2 is absolutely essential to the well being of our planet. Of course, this makes too much sense.
I agree they won't go after the cows, instead it will be tax on people. The more people, the more CO2. The more CO2, the more global warming. Therefore, reduce the population, reduce the need for cows, pigs, etc.
This is where ultra-left is going.
As much as the posters here may want to deny how the great proliferation of cows on our planet have made the gentle beasts a major contributor to CO2 and pollution emissions, cows are a problem. The polluted inversions in Cache Valley have been long recognized as a result of cows and cars -- and with emissions running unbated in Cache Valley, the quality of life there has deteriorated significantly. USU has found that attracting faculty has been a problem as local air quality problems have hit the national press. Who wants to move to a polluted place to work?
Instead of denying the problem, we should be using our technologies and creativity to address the problem. Some use the manuer to make energy. Mix of feedstock can help reduce gas and belch emissions as well.
Save us from the belching cows!!!!
The concern isn't the Co2 from the cows. The concern of the belching of cows is Methane. Google methane cow belching co2 and you will find places in NZ and England looking to change the diet of cows to reduce methane emissions.
Since a cow produces more harmful "greeenhouse" emissions than an SUV, we have several groups up in arms.
Personally, if West Jordan and Murray City can run a power plant on methane, lets harvest some of the gas for powering towns.
Actually, I think this is a lot of cow pies.
I have a confession to make. I think I am responsible for much of our global warming problem. You see, I break wind a lot. I can't help it. I also do a fair amount of belching but not to the extent I break wind. I also breath a lot. I've tried to quit breathing but like breaking wind I just can't stop. With all the breathing and breaking wind taking place on this planet, how are we ever going to survive?
EPA no planned tax on livestock...we better write about it and worry.
Sen Hatch is worried about the new high court appointee.
harping harping endless harping.
Until the government is willing to do something about all of the gas and hot air emanating from Washington, D.C., I really don't think any other sources of pollution should be targeted. D.C. politicians and their cronies emit far more toxic gases than any bunch of cows I've ever seen. Let's go after the real stinkers!
There seems to be plenty of defense of cows when it comes to emissions. Why not power plants? We need the electricity as much as we need the milk.
Re: Arc 12:41
Glad to hear of your concern. Until the government sets up a free program to come into our homes and get rid of those termites, will you just gather up your friends and volunteer to do that for us?
When are we going to stand up and say - enough? Global warming is a diversion - the earth has warmed and cooled before man was driving SUVs, before cars, before factories and dairy farms! Weather comes in cycles and we did not cause them in the past and need to keep our wits about us in the future. Al Gore made a fortune on his book but as he travels the world on jets promoting it we are not thinking clearly about reality. ENOUGH!
When the buffalo roamed the country in millions, why was their gas more pure, and there was no global warming? Is cow gas different?
