Great editorial. It can be hard to listen to voices that do not reinforce one's own belief systems. This is why I regularly listen to conservative personalities on AM radio. As hard as it is to listen to, wacked out, but well meaning righties, like Bob Lonsberry, and Michael Medved, it is good to realize that just because someone is a conservative they can still be a good person.

Great idea. I'm going to become "conservative" for a day. 8 AM: Strap on my pistol and shoot up a toilet. Listen to Limbaugh all morning and Hannity all afternoon. 4 PM: Torture someone I don't like. 5 PM: Tear up a beautiful hillside with my loud, smoke-belching ATV. 7 PM: Go to a monster truck rally. 10 PM: Stay up all night watching Rambo movies. Wake up the next morning profoundly glad THAT'S over.

My opinions come from a long process of trying different ideas in the court of my own mind and heart, and human experience.

I started out as a Socialist, became an extreme Socialist, and then became a Republican, and then a supporter of the Constitutional and Independent American parties, after considering Libertarianism, and Syndicalism. You want me to go back and start all over again?

I choose my own friends and often never ask what their political views are. I like them for other reasons, although I would be uncomfortable with any bomb-throwing person whether their hate is from the left or right or any other direction.

My own idea of an opposite day, an expression that fascinates me, is to either ignore socially mandated days, change them to other days, or come up with an opposite day, such as an anti-Arbor Day when I chop down all the useless trees taking over my yard, cutting out the sunlight etc.

I would celebrate Martin Luther the German Protestant reformer on MLK Day. I would celebrate Saint George on St Patrick's Day. I would celebrate Christmas in April, be on my best behavior on Devils' Night.

I'm a conservative,

never owned and don't have a gun,
never owned and don't have an atv or suv,
never been to monster truck rally,
never stayed up all night watching rambo,

and college educated,

and don't need someone on the radio to tell what I think, althuogh they often articulate my thoughts quite well,

as a liberal you may suprised to know conservatives come from all classes, races, types, stratas, education levels, of people.

But you are a fine example of the narrow-minded stereotypcal thinking of liberals.

your opposite days could catch on. Ill try your way on Monday & Tuesday and chose to observe some less publicized days on Wednesday-Friday of next week.

Mon. for International Respect for Chickens Day, Ill have eggs at breakfast, chicken soup at lunch and a KFC dinner.

Tue. Ill ignore children, for childhood depression awareness day. Celebrate Anglo ingenuity, character, perseverance, and entrepreneurship, for Cinco de Mayo. Ill read my Scriptures, Pray to God, and offer condolences to Friedrich Engels father whose continued work as a Capitalist business man was the fund from which Friedrich paid for the Marxs family to live, for Karl Marxs birthday.

Wed. I will choose to enthusiastically participate in Great American Grump Out; No Diet Day and No Homework Day.

Thur. I will pray, be reasonable, and listen to really good music in celebration of National Day of Prayer, National Day of Reason, and Tchaikovskys Birthday.

Fri. Ill seek Gods protection and compassion for Military spouses and contemplate with gratitude the end of WWI, for Military Spouse Appreciation Day and V-E Day.

I'm glad you reminded me there is a National Day of Prayer. I guess there has just been too much high priority news lately for the media reminders and public awareness programs for this. You know like they do for Earth Day, Martin Luther King Day, Kwanza, Mothers Day, Valentines Day, April Fools Day, Halloween and the like.

Come to think about it, there must be too much to do at school too. My children remind me in advance of all these others and often times have special assignments, lessons and programs/activities for all the others Ive named, but I have not heard one word from them about National Prayer Day.

Now I know the media and educators would not dismiss this day as unimportant or unworthy of note. I mean how could they? our Country was founded and formed on the premise that God created us and it is God from whom all rights are given and it is only God who is greater than the people. They surely would not ignore God, nor a day dedicated for the people of this nation to communicate with God.
