Great signing | 6:43 p.m. April 29, 2009
Putting a team together isn't always about signing superstars. I've watched Logan play since he was in high school. He is the heart and soul of every team he has played on. His teams not only win, but win Big. He was an integral part of 2 State Titles and a Junior College National Championship. Congrats to Coach Rose and the Cougars for getting a great young man, and terrific player.
WOW | 8:09 p.m. April 29, 2009

This ought to put us over the top!
Too bad for SUU | 10:55 p.m. April 29, 2009
Too bad Logan won't be wearing T Bird red next year. He would have been a perfect fit for Coach Reid and his system.

While I'm disappointed, I wish him well and nothing but success at the Y.

Looks like Magnusson let his religious beliefs get in the way of a rational decision. He's a good player, but no where near MWC level. He'll end up getting a minute or 2 per game and be practice fodder for Rose. He should have signed with SUU or Westminster where he had a chance to start.
Local Kids aren't good enough | 7:36 a.m. April 30, 2009
He is obviously a winner based on his experience. I hope he can help the cougars.
In a small market like the state of Utah, I have to say I'm a little disappointed we didn't use any of the scholarships on a prize recruit from out of state. I'm not sure we can complete on a national level with local kids.

I'm still waiting to see the Cougs get out of the first round of the NCAA tourney.
No brainer | 7:53 a.m. April 30, 2009
Play for small and off the map Westminster? The egotistical Reid? Or Rose and get a quality education at BYU and play for a more prestigious program? No one in their right mind would have picked the other two. It was a no brainer to accept BYU's offer, and we should all be happy for him and wish him well.
Sweet | 8:08 a.m. April 30, 2009
I love how the yewts take a passive aggressive route to complain about this guy because they didn't get him. He'll be a good fit for BYU and the yewts will again finish near the middle to bottom of the MWC.
What? | 8:27 a.m. April 30, 2009
I played high school with this kid. I do not mean to rip on this signing but he is not a big time college player. He is JC at best. Why? He is undersized to be a PF or C, but he is not a SF because he cannot dribble and he is not a good shooter from outside of 15 feet. He is not athletic. This is a bad use of scholarship money. I like Logan, I did not know him well, I just played against him, I was in the same region as him, and he was good in high school because being 6'6 in high school makes you a power forward, but in college, no way. Bad signing by BYU. Good luck to Logan though, I hope he finds success.

Westminster is the better school.
Better coach too.
Good Luck | 8:40 a.m. April 30, 2009
Always interesting to me that a young man wants to be a practice player at BYU rather than a starter and key contributor at some of our other great in-state schools.
Good luck | 8:45 a.m. April 30, 2009
I wish Mag good luck. He's a hard worker and well coached. His dad was the Wasatch HS basketball coach for years and his brothers did well.
To No brainer | 9:13 a.m. April 30, 2009
I live a few blocks from Roger Reid and have known him since he was teaching basketball clinics when I was a kid. He is a great man, always has time to talk, and is really misunderstood by people who don't know him. He is a fierce competitor who never really felt comfortable in the spotlight.
Logan Fan | 9:40 a.m. April 30, 2009
I have watched Logan play basketball. Not only is he a good guy he is a WINNER! No, he's not the greatest basketball player I've ever watched, but he gets it done everywhere and against everyone. He digs deep and finds a way to WIN! I'm not a big Cougar fan, but I appreciate Logan for the hard-nosed, hard-working and tough player he is! Good luck. Wish you success.

Does this kid want to play basketball? Enjoy practice.

DIXIE STATE! Logan was a great fit at Dixie State, where he would have been a star the next two years and made trips to Hawaii (DSC conference foes). Now he'll just rot on the bench. Oh, and SUU. Please! They belong in D-II with Dixie where they might finish third or fourth in the Pac West.
Sober up naysayers!! | 12:08 p.m. April 30, 2009
Dave Rose has won three consecutive MCW conference titles. Don't you think he deserves some credit for knowing what he is doing?

How many of you who find nothing good to day about any article ever written about BYU have any knowledge or expertise WHATSOEVER that qualifies you to speak out on these articles?

Just because you have an opinion, doesn't mean it is worth much.

Grow up, give Dave Rose some credit and get a life. You may well die from your own venom.

Magnussons average stat line playing for the National Champion SLCC Bruins.

27 min/game, 8pts, 53% fg, 46% 3pt, 80% ft, 6 reb, 3.5 asst, 1 stl, 1.9 TO

He really does do a little bit of everything, it will be interesting to see how it translates to D-1 Basketball.

K-Dog | 2:41 p.m. April 30, 2009
I saw SLCC play 5-6 times this year and I also played college basketball so there is a little knowledge here. This is really unbelievable. He was the 4th best player on his junior college team. He averaged 8.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and was SWAC conference honorable mention. Two players on his team were 1st team and another one was 2nd team. BYU beat out SUU and Westminister. No brainer for Magnusson - No brains for BYU. Should have tried to get him as a walk-on but giving a scholarship to a lower performing junior college player is unbelievable.
Anonymous | 2:48 p.m. April 30, 2009
If I were Magnusson I would have chosen BYU over SUU or Westminister too.
Dixie Dan | 3:04 p.m. April 30, 2009
Talent rich California is again snubbed by BYU.
Pity as these student-athletes will have to pick going to UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal or some other minor D-I team on the west coast.
??????? | 3:41 p.m. April 30, 2009
I don't want to knock the kid but, we had to compete with SUU, Westminster and the University of Alaska Anchorage for him?
I think even Josh Burgess was a little more highly recruited than that.
DooDah | 3:43 p.m. April 30, 2009
College sports inner circle at its finest. His dad was a well known high school coach with connections, his SLCC coach loved him. Its easy to understand how they got BYU to take him.
Anonymous | 3:57 p.m. April 30, 2009
Let me try to understand this. Not very athletic (can't jump, not quick), average outside shooter, undersized, not strong, and SUU was the only D1(?) school offering. I don't, get it.
Ewetes | 5:02 p.m. April 30, 2009
The Ewetes are no good.. This includes their character.
SLCC fan | 6:08 p.m. April 30, 2009
I watched Several SLCC games this year. I was impressed with Magnusson, he is a very good man-to-man defender even against players who seem to have a significant advantage athleticly, he is actually a pretty good shooter but he just doesn't shoot it that much, he is a good passer and a tough rebounder, and he can play and defend 3 postitions. He most reminds me of a Shane Battier (for the Rockets, not Duke) type glue guy.

The things I would knock him on are that he turns the ball over too much, he isn't as much of a threat offensively as he should be (mostly because he just doesn't look for it), he needs to get stronger, and his athleticism is only so-so.

It will be interesting to see how BYU uses him.
TrueRed | 6:16 p.m. April 30, 2009
hey naysayers!!!!!???? and just like the fball team could not even win the MWC tourney, or an NCAA?

Better check yourself before making such a stupid post!
TOO BAD THE kid will | 6:18 p.m. April 30, 2009
be a practice player....with the stats given by another poster that doesn't translate into a MWC key player on any team!!

Oh well....another sign of Rosie----thud!
Low Expectations | 6:43 p.m. April 30, 2009
Looking on the bright side, these comments are good for Magnusson any contributions will be a plus.
BYU is BIG TIME....not!!! | 4:22 p.m. May 3, 2009
Wow, all of this years recruits are from Utah. You need a big man and you only get ANOTHER mid sized white guy with less than average skills. At least it looks like he has heart. The cougar blue is full of themselves and it is sad to see that the Y can't do any better.
Make all the excuses you want.
