It seems like there are a lot of people traveling to Colorado to help our team get a victory. It sounded like the first penalty kick awarded was not a good call. I wish that I could have seen the game. It would be nice if the media viewed these open cup games as important, since it is a tournament, as well as qualification for the CONCOCAF Champions League, and ultimately the World Club Championship. Hopefully next year we can get better coverage of the tournament.
I'm just gonna say it before some cynic or hater gets on here thinking they have a chance to bash soccer due to the low attendance of this game.. This is Seattle's practice field(only holds3,800), they average just under 30,000 in the seahawks stadium.
Where is the leadership? Where is the heart? Did we just go into that game knowing that we were gonna lose? Come on RSL lets start showing some heart on the road! PLEASE DON'T LET THE CRAPIDS EMBARRASS US! why the heck did we trade davies
We won't be playing the Rapids. Seattle will. We would have played them if we beat Seattle, but now the Open Cup is over for us.
Re:Pathetic - Why did we unload Davies?
We had to lose one player because after we get Espindola back we would have one too many players on our roster. Davies has a lot of potential, but he still has a lot of developing to do, and because he was coming in from Europe, his contract was going to be expensive. So the staff decided to develop less expensive talent (like Horst, who plays the same position) rather than keep Davies.
we play the Rapids this week as a regular season game. I hope we can turn it around mentally. I was really sorry to see us trade Davies for essentially nothing. I think this will come back in future years to bite us.
who cares its socer
Horst is terrible!! So is Beltran. every time they have been in we get scored on like Anonymous' sister at a frat party
I was so mad at RSL that I had to turn the radio off during the game. I sure hope that RSL don't embarrass themselves and RSL fans this weekend in Colorado.
I sure hope that we don't see Horst or Beltran again for the rest of the season!!
Oh yea? you want to talk about my sister? Well, RSL 2009 gets scored on like RSL 2005. Take that!
No MLS team ever puts any real thought into this tourney, we played scrubs for the most part. I only worry that it proves we are not as deep as we would like to think.
Kill Colorado!
Played more starters than Seattle...
Unloaded Davies when you have a Horst and Beltran? Fire from office! Unbelievable!
Davies would have cost RSL 80k a year, and he would have been a bench warmer. It is nice to have depth, but do you want somebody on the bench making more than a lot of players on the team that start? Doubt it. In the time it would have taken to develop Davies, maybe we can develop Horst to be a good defender.
No team goes into a match thinking it is okay to get embarassed. But if Salt Lake does then I think you found the answer to your road woes.
RSL let the first goals get to their heads. I can't believe most of Seattle's team (starters and bench players) were available to the rest of the MLS but were consistently tossed around or ignored. These guys are quality
This game proved something to me, if Jamison Olave or Nat Borchers get injured this season we are in trouble. While we have plenty of strikers and midfielders that can compete for minutes, we are thin on central defenders. David Horst is our only true central defender that can come off the bench and anyone who has seen him play will know what that means. Robbie Russel can play in that position, but it is not his natural position. Why did we let Davies go for a second round draft pick? I know we had to free up a roster spot for Espindola, but why not let a striker go? I heard on the pre-game that young central defenders don't have a good history in this league. Maybe Davies didn't look good in practice. I would guess that if Olave or Borchers did get hurt we would make a trade to bring in an experienced central defender to replace them. Knowing our luck we would have to give up a first round pick in the 2010 super draft.
When is Horst going to be a good defender? I keep on hearing that he can be, but I haven't noticed anything good about him.
This is only his second year in the league. He has only played in what, 4 games or something? I am not saying he is a better player than Davies or anything like that, but Davies was too expensive. He makes more than Johnson. Should we give up Johnson to keep somebody who is going to be riding the bench for a couple of years?
The coaches really like Horst and not only see potential, but have seen some good things from him. I've seen him in action for only a couple of games and so I have to defer the choice to the coaches who watch him day in and day out.
Davies was traded due to the cost of salary, end of story. He would be an expensive gamble.
As far as the US Open cup, it was frustrating to listen to, but the MLS Cup is the still the ultimate goal. I would also like to see us qualify and play in the Champions League or Superliga.
