What a bunch of arrogant nonsense.

Mr. Hansen

Sorry, don't buy it. Yours is another scare tactic.

At the same time, I think that efficiency and less pollution should be encouraged. I don't think you need to scare people into accepting that though.

Global climate has always

been changing. What's new?

Nothing, except many people want to profit off it. Some want to make money. Others want to use it for political change.

Given global climate has never been constant, does it make sense for us to bankrupt this nation to "fix" the climate? And are we that egotistical to think the little humans can control global climate?

This is nonsense and, for many of these people, disingenuous.

Aware of Reality

The comments above are so typical of ignorant people. You know nothing of the subject you're talking about, and claiming that an astute, brilliant scientist doesn't know what HE'S talking about.

Tell you what, kick back in the lazy boy, turn on your football and forget about it. It's always been survival of the fittest and I guess we'll see where you end up....

Dilly

Completely agree with Aware of reality.

Always boggles my mind when people, with no scientific training whatsoever, somehow think they know more than the scientists. Also love the "these guys are just looking to make a profit" line. Give me a frickin break.

Hansen is not a climate scientist mind you, he's just a physicist. He has no more expertise in climate than the average Joe on the street. I'm every bit as much of a scientist. So he says CO2 should be at 3 hundred something parts? How the heck does he know? And who says climate change is dangerous above that? The guys ideas sound good, but put your critical thinking cap on for just a moment. Climate in this extremely giant world is much more complicated than this bozo believes. It's clearly much more complicated than cancer, or aids etc etc. Yet we can figure those things out after trillions of dollars of research. What makes you really believe this propaganda?

Science for Money

It is unfortunate that scientists will "learn" whatever will get them the funding. ($250,000 in funding from Heinz for a Kerry endorsement anyone?)

I think we all agree that the climate is warming, but I get bothered by the fear-mongering that happens on the political level. Yes, we all need to do our part to protect the environment. Yes, we all want to preserve the Earth for future generations. But let's look at real science and find out how much of this "crisis" is actually attributable to humans before we dump millions or billions into government programs that likely won't change much of anything anyway.

I mean, as recently as the seventies we were on the brink of a "catastrophic new ice age". Maybe it was our carbon emissions which saved us. <--sarcasm

On February 15, James Hansen said, in a UK op-ed, "The trains carrying coal to power plants are death trains. Coal-fired power plants are factories of death."

In a letter to President Obama, Hansen says, "Switzerland finances construction of
coal plants, Sweden builds them, and Australia exports coal and sets atmospheric carbon dioxide goals so large as to guarantee destruction of much of the life on the planet."

Hansen's dire "Chicken Little" predictions are based largely on climate models that are currently rising above actual global temperature anomalies, which for have been stable or dropping for the last ten years.

The United States is a remarkable and successful nation. It is responsible for about 25% of global GDP and about 25% of global oil consumption. At the heart of that greatness and industry are many talented and some brilliant scientists and engineers. In the shadows of that greatness are many ignorant and some arrogant people. Try downloading Hansen's papers (some are available free of charge) and read them.

Climate Hoax

"Global climate has always", Thank you very much you make a very good point. It is about time that someone stand up and say it how it really is. I do think that we should be careful with our resources and be more energy efficient but that has nothing to do with the so called "climate change". If they want to reduce Carbon Dioxide why doesn't the government mandate a period of time when every american can't breath for so many seconds in a day. (Sarcasm)!

Joseph

Powell and Mead losing water because of global foolishness?

I say we disband Los Vegas and Los Angeles for the next decade and see if the water levels return.

The water is being used, duh

American Citizen

Thank you bloggers, for your "enlightened" comments. What a hoot!

The evidence for global warming is fact. The data can be measured in any lab anywhere in the world, with the same results.

You are only one six billionth of the human biomass. What you say or do will have one six billionth of an effect on what is coming.

Tighten the straps on those tinfoil helments!

Stop this insane bickering

Irregardless of whether global warming is caused by humans or not. The temperature of the planet is heating up, the waters are polluted with mercury and other heavy metals, we are choking with garbage in the landfills. To continue to build coal fired power plants and pretend business is as usual is just NUTS!

Here in Utah we are advised not to eat certain species of ducks and trout in certain waters is contaminated. How far do we go before we can't breathe or eat?

Thinkin' Man

Interesting how climate scaremongers will use anything but a thermometer as "evidence" of climate change.

"We know that CO2 causes climate change because the models we programmed with CO2 as a climate driver tell us so."

The farce is so transparent, it's laughable. I'm saddened that so many of my science colleagues have been sucked into the power-grab.

Cosmo

This political hack should be fired from NASA, and brought up on charges of corruption! How much money is he getting from Al Gore, and what position was he promised for his support, in Al"s Carbon Tax Scam company?

Dr. James Hansen?

Isn't he the same scaremonger who more than 20 years ago told Congress we'd be living in a sauna bath by now?

Apparently the Climatic Aramageddon has been postponed for a few more years.

What the correct level of CO2 should be is debatable. The truth is that without humans pumping CO2 into the atmosphere, we would probably be at the early stages of an ice age.

I'm basing this on the fact that the northern hemisphere is furthest from the sun during its summer which means, all things being equal, the summers in the northern hemisphere are as cool as they get. Ice ages are caused by cool summers, not cold winters. The earth spins like a top and it has an 11,000 year cycle. In the past, about every 11,000 years we have an ice age and right now we are at the point where an ice age should be starting.

I'm not saying our current CO2 level trajectory is good. It's just that we need to be careful not to go too far in the other direction. The consequences may be worse.

Science Teacher

For those that believe in the lie, try doing a little research into what happens to a researcher who finds evidence that GW is NOT man-made.

You don't hear about them much, do ya? Catch them on the news everyday?

See them on the unemployment line?

Truth is, if you don't toe the line with the POLITICALLY charged GW movement, you soon find yourself censored and out of a job.

Stop buying into the media frenzy.

Question for all those that believe this tripe: when did man get over to Mars and Venus? They're warming up now, too.

Biker100

I often wonder how the "scientists" who lecture about the dangers of global warming are brilliant while those equally brilliant scientists who lecture about the farce of global warming are hacks who don't know anything. Who decides?

Tinfoil wearing skeptic

There have been a number of "ice ages" over the history of our earth and each of the "ice ages" came to an end when "global warming" happened and the earth warmed and melted the ice sheets. Funny thing, with each of these previous "warming" periods I have never seen any evidence of coal-fired power plants or SUVs causing the warming. Hmmmmm Could it be that the earth warms and cools naturally without human intervention??? If you don't belive me, there is a great documentary called Ice Age and Ice Age 2. It has a funny little squirrel in both always trying to catch this nut. Great documentary. :-)
