"Political correctness" is about taking from another one of our most precious freedoms, the freedom of speech. Intimidation and coercion are the tactics of those who can not win the argument with reason and civility.
She randomly picked the judge as well as the question that came along with the judge. She also did not answer the question fully of whether each state should legalize same sex marriage. She just gave her opinion based on how she was raised not stating if other states should follow suit. Watch the video, she picked the judge and see if she answers the question.
HARDLY! Y'all are a very loud MINORITY.
Why do we feel obligated to make idiots like Hilton into celebrities?
What have they done to earn the honor of judging a pageant, let alone getting media air time?
I attended the Miss America pageant where Kayla Barclay (Miss Utah) competed and was impressed with the judges and their respect for the contestants. This just goes to show that the Miss America organization is head and shoulders above Miss USA.
The reigning Miss America won after singing a religious song for her talent. Wouldn't have happened at Miss USA.
I for one congratulate Miss California. Shame on the person who asked the question to set a trap. The LBTGs movement is feeling a little "heady" because of what they see are victories for gay rights. I personally am getting quite tired of this small minority group with so much to say and so morally berift in saying it.
It appears to me that the Pageant Staff is as much at fault as Hilton (real name is Mario Lavandeira). He has done very little professionally but push the gay agenda and by choosing him for the judging panel, they knew he would play that hand. They are the ones that should be apologizing to the American public for sacrificing their program for a political agenda. And then to ask her to retract her honest answer? They have lost all credibility in being able to run an honest contest.
You are absolutely correct, Doug.
Prejean, thank you for your courage, your honesty, and your morality. You do represent the majority, although, as Doug said, certain factions would have you believe otherwise.
The crown you lost is soiled, and is therefore probably something you don't want to wear anyway.
Isn't it a little dishonest to say that "she" picked the judge and the question. She had nothing to do with who asked the question or what the question would be. Donald Trump says the publicity created by this fiasco was good for his Miss USA pageant. Any contest rests on the fairness and validity of the judges and the process. Mr. Trump exposed his pageant as possessing neither.
That's about an accurate statement as original reporting by Doug Robinson.
if you watch the video she picked a card out of a bowl for the question, so it was hardly "set-up".
also, like stenar said, I would hardly classify the anti-gay marriage people as "silent"....
How is it that Perez Hilton, a man who makes his living saying atrociously offensive things about other people, can be so easily offended by a simple statement of opinion free of the profanity, name-calling, and obscene pictures he so heavily relies on? I think he doth protest too much.
I'm not a fan of pageants; however, Miss California caught the attention of our family. We discussed with admiration how she handled herself against the agenda and intolerance of a minority who imposes reverse discrimination. My children were very impressed with her courage and poise as she stood as a witness in defense of her beliefs. We don't care that she didn't win the silly crown. She is a winner in our eyes. Thanks, Miss California, for being a role model in a world where very few exist anymore.
You'll fall for anything. It's so important to stand up for your moral beliefs. I applaud her for not rescinding her statement! Most people never have to face that kind of pressure on their values, and I think what she did was admirable.
the great thing about this whole fiasco is that Miss California would not get the attention she has if she would have gone against her principals and said the PC answer. By stangind up for what is right, she has had 100 times the amount of publicity she would have had even if she would have won the pagent. I usually don't care at all about Miss USA, Miss America, Miss Universe or whatever, I think it is all stupid. But because she stood up for what is right, I actually have followed her in interviews and read articles like this one that I normally would have skipped over
If they win based on looks and not brain, then it was obvious she lacked brains based on the way she answered. Her answer was clumsy - then again it fit the "blonde" mentality
Beauty pageants? They still hold beauty pageants? And the opinion of one the contestants about a straw-man social issue made the news? Did some science experiment go horribly awry and teleport then entire world back 1952? Wow, daddy-o. Far out.
Right on Hatuletoh. I think Robinson missed the reality boat.
It's called cognitive dissonance.
Miss California has the guts and courage to say what she believes in front of the entire nation. This "politically correct" movement has gone too far. The gays, who represent a tiny minority of citizens nationwide, have become belligerent little crybabies whenever someone exercises his right to free speech. As citizens of the United States, the gays ought to respect the Constitution and honor our right to state what we believe, but they do not. THE GAYS APPARENTLY BELIEVE THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE THE RIGHT TO EXERCISE FREE SPEECH. FURTHER, THEY USE THE MEDIA TO STEP ON THE REST OF US. What about Miss California's rights? What about MY rights? Where is the justice in THAT?? It's my Constitution, too.
What will happen if the vocal minority continues screaming too loudly?
