One thing that wasn't mentioned in the article is that the winner of the US Open Cup receives a spot in the CONCOCAF Champions league. That is not only an international competition, but it would bring in a lot of added revenue to the city with more games being played at Rio Tinto.
I only wish the media thought this game was important and would show it on TV instead of listening only on the radio. I would like to see how some of our reserve talent plays.

is this game gonna be on rslfm?

???

Cam

Wish this one was on TV. I would like to see some of the young guys in action. Here's to hoping we can pull of the road win.

pate

I wish the media were more interested in this game and the Open Cup in general. There are so many cool story lines with amateur, semi-pro, and pro teams playing one another. And now with the winner getting a berth in the concacaf champions league it's even better.

This game isn't on TV, but it should be.

HEY! Maybe they'll start Andy this game!!!

On RSLFM, they say they are going to have audio with a live chat. That is all.

nerves

The CONCACAF is going to be a good tournament some day, but right now the MLS squads just aren't deep enough. The MLS teams have to make an either or choice. Either they go for broke in one of these tournaments and pretty much flame out as the MLS season goes on, or they save themselves for MLS. Until then the Mexican teams will be there year after year and no one will take it all that seriously since they already know the outcome before it starts.
I think MLS was smart to seperate the Superliga teams from the Champions teams. MLS has enough parity that the Superliga teams will be just as competitive in the tournament and the Champions teams aren't playing 200 extra games a year.

re: pate

Remember this is soccer you're talking about. The media is interested in entertaining, not killing audiences with boredom.

re: 11:50 a.m.

Our first soccer hater. You haters just can't get enough can you? Why do you continue to frequent the boards if soccer is so boring. I agree with Pate at 8:28 soccer coverage is very poor to average at best. Case in point. RSL wins 6-0 on Saturday but gets buried on page 10 of the Desnews. That is a joke. I am glad that the D-news is writing about the Open cup though.

Because

RE: re: 11:50 a.m. | 12:19 p.m. April 28, 2009

Why? Because you guys defend your so-called 'Sport' like it is a religion. Kind of RSL soccer crusades... well minus the killing.

RE: Because

We only defend it on SOCCER REALTED STORIE FORUMS. It is you who come on these sites to bash something you probably have never even taken the time to understand. And yes I know you haven't because I used to be a soccer hater. Then I went to the game enjoyed it a bit and went to a few more, learned the rules and now would prefer this sport over anything but American Football.

RE: Because 1:46

One day you will chose Soccer over American Football, trust me, it happened to me.

Cowboy

Soccer is a metaphor for life, connected to the rhythms and patterns of the people at a game, it is food for the soul.

US sports are made for TV, connected to standarized patterns of TV ads which feed the machine of power and control. They reflect nothing but empty narcissism.

US sports such as NFL are structured around the ad break - but this funding model is becoming obsolete. They will soon have to restructure.

When gridiron reintroduces continuous play, reverses the rule adjustments on offsides and passing, abandons protective clothing and becomes an expression of physical art again then it will be worth watching.

I'll be watching rugby.

Re: Cowboy

That was very well said Cowboy. I hope that Andy starts this game. I think he deserves it, he played great in the last match!
