If abstence only educaton works best to keep young people acting responsibly, then do it.
if a mixture of abstence combined with protection works best, then do this.
If some third option works best, then do this.
Obama is right, that such decisions ought to be left to science (what works), not up to politics.
What do you call teenagers who practice "abstinence-only" sex education?
Answer: Pregnant.
At one time religion and morals were a part of the american culture and at an early age warned children the need for abstinence from sex. But american no longer has any moral values and religion in the home is almost extinct our country is becoming a free-for-all of individuals. By the time government gets involved in sex education its too late to change the attitudes of children and their peers. Abstinence was taught in the home to preserve the sanctity of marriage but marriage has become more discouraged and not practiced before sex. Children and americans have this mindset they must test the body and sex before they commit to life and marriage. Being compatiable is a learning period of marriage, and practicing extramarital sex does not make people compatiable. What schools should teach is the merits of abstinence and the meaning of marriage and how a couple learn and grow together and not as individuals cohabitating who are only satisfying their sexual hormones. The only exception to this are the illegal students who want to have anchor babies, even while in school and at the urging of parents, to try and secure a foothold.
If they were PRACTICING abstinence how did they get pregnant?
Liberals say the silliest things.
Who said teaching abstinence does NOT include teaching about diseases or how the human body works?
. . . telling the government to stay the H-E-double-toothpicks out of "educating" my kids about sex?
When the government started "educating" kids about sex, 1 in 9 brides were pregnant and the vast, vast majority of kids had 2 parents.
Now, after nearly 50 years of government sex "education" -- well I don't have to tell you what we've become.
Government sex "education" CAUSES disease, CAUSES children to have dangerous sex, CAUSES children to get pregnant, and CONDEMNS them to life on the government dole.
Why on God's green earth should we continue to let the government teach our kids about sex?
Given its track record, only a moron would support government sex "education."
Did you read the article 22% of teenagers that have had sex, have with four pepole that makes eveything go up.
@3:14: You beat me to the punch. Nice work!
@government involvement: I agree with you. Since the 60's we've been in a free fall of morals and values. There is no stigma any longer to almost all things of value and morality. Society has beat it down so much that morals are an afterthought.
What's sad is that it's only going to get worse....within in a couple of years, nudity that gets an R rating in a movie will be on regular TV.
I was so astonished when my first child entered high school that I decided to home-school the rest I now have 8 grandchildren and they are being home-schooled. Thank Heavens! I was in a resturant the other evening and it happened to be prom night. Several groups came in and I was astonished at the dresses the girls wore. It is no wonder that we have teen pregnancy. It is so stupid to send all these teenagers with raging hormones in one place for hours every day and expect anything different that what we have right now. I know I have heard for years how bad I was for "protecting my children so much and not let them experience life!" Is this what it means? All the education in the world is not going to solve the problem. In fact I believe the more it is talked about in a group setting the more they think about it. HELLO it is not working. My kids turned out great and neither them or I have ever regretted protecting them from all this garbage! They thank me nearly everyday.
It should be scrutinized... It doesn't work.
