Benavidez is the one who was convicted of the other murder, in 2004? And he's still living in Taylorsville?

Or am I misreading a very confusing "some were still suspicious" paragraph?

No, although I agree with you that the paragraph is confusing; Benavidez is in prison. He was there when he was finally identified as the killer in the downtown SLC murder. He pled out to avoid the death penalty.
