is it then that Utah is the Capital of reading PORN??
I'm just curious as to why the LDS faithful are so caught up in this in your State? Is it because the female is less attractive, heavier, always pregnant, less effort from the female to be sexy????
P.S. I live outside the State of Utah, and was somewhat shocked to see Utah in the top for pornography. Surely there's a reason???
I think the 7:00 p.m. comments were superficial and juvenile. I don't think that Utah females are less attractive, heavier or always pregnant. This was a very tacky comment. I am not aware that Utah has a worse porn problem than other states, although it is obviously a serious problem. I suppose that the fact that Utahns are more connected to the internet than the citizens of most states may have something to do with it.
Is it just me, or does it seem like there is no evidence whatsoever offered as to why pornography is bad. It's just bad because it's bad
You are a troll. If you don't have anything constructive to say, please stay away.
Are you kidding?? Utah has so many beautiful women. They are in better shape. I am from the south where the women are heavier. They are mostly slim and trim out here.
Back on the subject...I think that Porn is going to be the destruction of the family if not halted. It is degrading and sick. It is very sad to see how some people get so hooked on it until their lives are miserable.
It is because Utahns are more educated and wealthy than the rest of the country resulting in a higher percentage of people who can both purchase and understand how to use a computer. The rest of the states would be right up there with us if they weren't so stupid and poor. Which of these less fortunate gutters do you reside in mr. or ms. Why?
To the supposed out-of stater, grow up and quit acting like an idiot. If you were smart enough to read the actual reports you would have seen that this research was done with only ONE of the million of porn providers using credit cards. Thus it was a flawed study not even warranting notice frankly. If you look at national results, although still embarassing nonetheless, Utah is not number one. I am not making excuses I am just sick and tired of people taking the focus off the facts.
Regardless the fact remains that purveyors of porn are sex abusers and should be thrown in jail for this evil they are perpetrating on our society. They are no different than rapists, child molestors and others that abuse for sexual gratification. Wait ten more years. If you think it is bad now it is progressively and quickly getting worse.
Unfortunately it is people like "out of stater" that like to point and make fun because they are probably porn addicts themselves and won't face the fact that this evil is and will destroy our nation.
The reason porn is such a problem in Utah is because mormons are preoccupied with talkin about it. Tell your kids its wrong, and then let it be. Talking about porn every 5 seconds just makes people more curious.
@Why: Be careful when misquoting findings. It's true that one recent study (with somewhat debatable accuracy) ranked Utah top in *Internet* pornography use. The fact that the sale of pornography (DVDs, magazines, etc.) in parts of Utah is otherwise illegal may be a factor in that. The study didn't say Utah was top in overall pornography use, nor did it attempt to measure that.
Several years ago I found out my husband was addicted to porn. He has since overcome the problem, but I would like to address why it is destructive.
1. We had been having problems in the bedroom for the whole time he was dealing with this. When he overcame the problem, things returned to normal. I think he was constantly trying to change things up in any way, in the mistaken belief that it would help him overcome the problem. Never worked, until he repented. Porn simply destroys and perverts the normal sex drive.
2. It put a big barrier between us. He felt guilty, couldn't confess the problem for a long time. I knew something was wrong, but not what. It's very destructive to have unresolved issues in a marriage that you can't talk about. It drove us apart.
3. It made participation in religious activities uncomfortable to the point of being impossible for him. Given that our activity in our church is a big part of our lives, one of the major things we have in common, and is what brought us together in the first place, being unable to participate was awful.
I have two comments -
1st, porn is an easy addiction to hide and that's why it prevalent. There is no odor and those who have been using porn don't appear high or drunk. It can be done more secretly.
2nd, my former spouse was addicted to porn and he compared me to what he was seeing in the porn. I could not measure up and he lived in a type of fantasy world. The emotional connection for a successful relationship was not there because he was involved with others who were not really real, and who he could never actually meet. It took a while, and it finally ruined our relationship but it has been going on for years before I knew for sure because he was often out of town...and this all happened in California. It doesn't matter what state has the most - the point is it is hurtful to families and attitudes about women.
Utah may not be perfect but this problem with pornography is a universal problem. There is no need to talk down about Utah and better yet, the LDS Population and the women. The availability of pornography over the Internet is global to everybody, including you. I guess you are so perfect that the statement, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" is something that you do 24 hours a day huh? Give me a break.
I have had a pornography addiction, but I am also recovering and have a healthy relationship with my wife sexually and emotionally. The biggest problem I have with porn is that it robs me of my connection with God. Any man who uses the internet should have a filter, period, the natural man is too strong, especially if you have a bad day. It's like putting chocolate in front of a depresed woman. Women also should not overreact. Porn use is varied in its use and destructiveness and its factor is marriage is dependent upon the many other factor's of the marriage. Women tend to have eating and food disorders. They both can rob you of closeness with your spouse and God. One is just not on the temple recommend interview, but it . A wife acting too shameful about porn is a push-pull problem that will probably make it worse. My wife knows I have had a problem, and while she is supportive in my struggle to overcome, she doesn't identify her own shortcomings by mine. This has made my dry spells much longer and easier to maintain.
Anyone who thinks pornography is harmless has their head in the sand. Just ask anyone who has been there. It's very much like a drug addiction. There may be a stage early on where a person is involved, but hasn't yet encountered the big problems it brings, so they may still think it pretty harmless; but everyone who has been further down that road will tell you differently.
Just find one person who has been into pornography for a while, then got out, and says life isn't much better without it. I doubt you can find one. But there are plenty of those who have gotten out and will tell it to you straight.
Again, it's like a drug. Though I've never done drugs, I am quite sure that it can be a pretty exhilarating experience. But I know it's not worth it, so I won't go there. Pornography is the same. Tantalizing in the moment, but destructive down the road. And it's more common than drug abuse, in part because it can be had for free.
This hedonistic plague is tearing down individuals and families all around us.
These comments against porn are refreshing to me. Problems with porn aren't based on religious background, but a valid social plague that has ill effects on everyone involved, direct or indirect. Christian, Jew, Muslim, Agnostic or Atheist. These comments about avoiding it or recovering from it help refresh my faith in society.
What's wrong with pornoagraphy? A better question would be, "Is there anything right with pernagraphy?"
Consider this:
What starts with curiousity, or accidental exposure, escalates into uncontrollable desire. Porn is terribly addictive. Escape from porn is so tough. How can a man shut down his mind and keep it clear?
Pornagraphy destroys normal sex drive in men and alienates men from the women who have the misfortune to love them. No woman can ever measure up to the fantasy-driven world where the man lives.
Pornagraphy destroys human relationships with guilt, disrespect, loathing, and all the negatives of any serious addiction. School suffers, work suffers, relationships are forgotten, as the man revolves around the virtual reality of the pornagraphic world where his mind is now enslaved.
Pornagraphy consumes the mind and heart, burying them both in an insidious flood of filth. Keep your feet out of that flood.
Pornagraphy will destroy all your sweetest relationships and leave your life hollow. If you think your personal moments alone with a computer screen or movie are harmless, you are all ready a victim of this miserable killer.
Please get help and get out of the trap.
Pornography like many things can be used to dull the emotional senses and set the real world aside. This is what some skeptics call "stress relief." It gets to the point where you don't even feel alive without it. I've been much much happier since I've gotten help and made big strides to move on.
Very simple explanation: Because all other forms of hard-core porn -- DVDs, satellite movies -- are banned in Utah. The randy university student or lonely oilfield worker who gets a hankering for some XXX action has no other choice but to go online and get his fix.
This is confirmed by the 5 top zip codes for porn downloads: Four are in rural mining and oil-producing areas of the state, while the fourth is the campus of the University of Utah -- a state-sponsored school that doesn't even filter its computer content.
If LDS men secretly downloading porn in their spare time were responsible for Utah's #1 designation, then one would expect to see BYU and conservative Utah county at the top of the list.
Thank you for stating the truth for what it is. I live in a different state than Utah and I drive past 5 or 6 "Adult" stores every day to work. They are open 24/7 and it doesn't matter what time of the day I go by, they ALWAYS have 1/3 to half of all the parking stalls filled. And those are just the ones that I drive by. In Utah, those types of stores are few and far between. I believe it would be safe to say THAT is the reason that Utah MAY lead the nation online in porn use.
