From the day that he was traded to the Jazz, Derek Fisher wanted out of Utah. What a loser.
Fish, you're a good guy and great family man. With that said, here's to hoping you and Kobe suck it up for 4 games this series.
It is great to know that Fisher's Daughter is doing well and those types of situations are more important than basketball.
However, I think the reason why I and so many Jazz fans boo fisher is that we feel that he didn't really want to be here and used his daughters situation as an excuse to leave. I heard that even after moving to L.A., Fisher's daughter still went out to New York to get care for her eye. If that is true, he obviously didn't need to leave Utah. Also, why couldn't he have stayed in Utah and still flown to L.A to get treatment, if that is where he needed to take her? L.A. is at most a two hour flight.
Lastly, even if he did need to move to L.A. or New York, why couldn't the Jazz have tried to work out a deal with one of those teams and trade him first? They had plenty of time since it was in the summer and Fisher's daughter could have been getting adequate treatment while they worked something out.
In so many ways, I really like Fisher but it still pains me tremendously that he would sign with the Lakers following Larry Millers unbelievable benevolence. If he had signed with any other team, I would not have harbored any kind of ill will. However, signing with the hated Lakers is like a Purple Heart decorated Marine signing up to fight for Islamic terrorists after his trip to the White House to shake hands with the President.
Admittedly, I have a deep and unabated bias. As Ive often said, I have two favorite NBA teams the Jazz and whoever is playing the Lakers
I always liked Fisher, and hate the fact that fans sometimes boo him. The national media also never understood why Jazz fans booed him, and made us look like classless fans. Another reason is Fisher I think generally liked it here, but his family probably didn't, so he was in a tuff situation, and did what he thought was right for his family. I don't blame him at all. He is a good guy...
You gotta hand it to Fisher, anyone who can get the best of Larry H. Miller, in a business deal, is one smart cookie.
He took advantage of the situation. He is the President of the players union, and is suppose to set an example.
If any other team had done this Stern would of vetoed it.
I will always have fond memories of the year Derek Fisher spent in Utah. The fact is we never would have made the Western Conference Finals without him. As for his reasons for leaving, I think we need to remember that professional sports are a business. I can't blame Fisher for looking out for himself and his family first. If the Jazz had felt he was playing them, I think they would not have let him out of his contract so easily.
He'd be playing backup behind Williams if he were still here, and we don't need him.
You're pathetic. You compared Derek Fisher leaving Utah to a US Marine fighting for Islamic terrorists. You obviously never served in any branch of the military. There is no depth to your idiocy if you actually believe what you wrote. If Fisher or anyone else doesnt want to play for the Jazz or doesnt want to live in Utah, so what. You need to get a life, Tuffy. Or at least travel outside of Utah once in a while.
I like Fisher as a man. I do not doubt his motives for leaving. It just sucks he is in Laker purple.
Just throwing this out there for the writer of the article, it was not known as the Delta Center back when Fisher played. The stadium changed names right at the beginning of that season. So for the playoff game it was known as the Delta Center.
I have ZERO fond memories of Fisher playing here. I was expecting a lot more out of him when he was here but all he did was disappoint. And that so called "big shot" he made against the Warriors in the playoffs was one that we didn't really need. I'm glad to have one more reason to hate Fisher. It makes me laugh every time he shakes his head when a call goes against him. Fisher is a joke.
really is, a lying, manipulative, opportunistic, back stabber. Used his kid to take advantage of Millers then comes back and says how he has fond memories of being here.
I can't say I don't understand why he left. But it doesn't make me or other fans classless that a guy would use his sick daughter to get out of a contract so his wife could be happy. Most of us remember he reluctance to come her following the trade deal. He's a very smooth guy and usually says all the right things, but that doesn't make him a great person. It's gonna be sweet justice when we knock his team out of the playoffs in a year when everyone thinks they will win it all. Come on Jazz win it for justice!
I don't hold Fish's move against him, but why do articles like this always coveniently forget to explain why it rubbed some Jazz fans the wrong way? Even a throw away line about how Fisher's daughter still sees a doctor in New York would be nice.
I'm glad Fisher figured out the best situation for his family, and it worked out better for the Jazz in the end anyway. It stings to see him in purple, but the booing is weaksauce.
Some of you people are pathetic. Fish was and is a class act. He was very professional during his year here, after being shocked by the trade that landed him here. He provided great leadership that year, and at the end it was a win-win situation to release him: him for his family, and the Jazz to rid themselves of a pretty big contract for an undersized 2-guard or backup PG. We didn't need him anymore. Get over yourselves.
Fisher is terrific.
GO JAZZ!!! KILL L.A.!!!
Pathetic? Perhaps. However I'm pretty sure my idiocy is plenty deep. Maybe the problem is that I'm not so good at over the top sarcasm to elicit such an enraged response...
Lighten up! The point was that Fisher left Utah to play for the most hated of rivals.
Fisher Lied to get out of town.
He was upset when we traded for him to come here and then came up with some benevolent diplomatic statement to cover that up.
Then he found a linch pin excuse to get out of here. How would it look if LHM refused his request? Of course LHM made the benevolent choice and let him out.
The real reason he wanted out though was simply because Fisher believed he still had game and he wanted more minutes in the PG role. He realized Brewer was stepping up to take more minutes at the two slot which meant Fish was going to see alot of the bench.
Fish did not want to sit on the bench and I can't say I blame him for that.
Lets not pretend though that he did this for his daughter. NY treatment Center and he moves farther away?
Lets cut the pretenses, Fisher lied to get out and found a good excuse to put LHM in a box to do it.
He did it all for playing time--nothing else.
Fisher sure knows how to spin (lie) though. Thats why people say he is a good politician.
Ya, I can see both sides of this, but fisher was a class act, and I believe he reasons for leaving were sincere even if he didn't particularly like Utah.
I think alot of Jazz fans underestimate the impacet his leaving had on the Jazz, and the Lakers.
Fisher was a solid, tough, veteran guard with playoff experience.
Can you imagine what a difference it would make for the Jazz to have Fisher backing up Williams instead of Knight? And if they had Fisher playing some of Korver and CJ's minutes?
Can you imagine what a difference it would make if the LA didn't have Fisher to guard Williams?
I think last years playoff series may have turned out much differently.
The Jazz desperately need a player like Derrek Fisher right now (solid veteran, good defender, championship experience, clutch shooter), it's a shame that player isn't Derrek Fisher.
