Good Employment....
President Uchtdorf gave an outstanding talk at commencement. It was full of applicable, inspirational advice.
What about the unsaid but always lurking advice: Making big bucks?
I was impressed by the humility and gratitude President Uchtdorf showed when he was awarded his honorary doctorate. What a humble and fantastic man!
I have generally been impressed by the humility of Latter Day Saint Leaders, even the elders. God has given us power over the enemy; it is called the word of God and obedience to it. New graduates and all people of God need to remember we are commanded to seek to bring in the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.
NOW we have power with faith in 2 Nephi 29 that God has spoken the same message to all nations to gather us to the stone cut without hands through the Sabbath Commandment. Correction is needed: Moses, Jesus, and Muhammad gave Gods word to live by EVERY word of God. Other religions are to follow Gods law. Unity is possible with the spirit of truth.
Email President Obama for him to choose the 7th day day of rest, the Lord's day, according to the Ten Commandments cut in stone so it does not become a persecution to the Jews and so we worship according to IT IS WRITTEN. Google: Obama-power-in-national-day-of-prayer for greater information. IMPORTANT: email your decision for a proclamation by Barack Obama on May 7, National Day of Prayer.
The 7th Day is Saturday. Is that what I'm emailing to Obama? To make Saturday the day of rest, as written in the 10 commandments? Or are you refering to the 1st day of the week, the Lord's day?
Well, Larry, apparently "big bucks" are important to you.
"Big" is relative. It is just fine to work hard and live life to the fullest. Just don't fall in love with yourself. As you have "success" then help other people. Let's make the whole world a better place to live.
If you don't use your talents and "talents" to help others then you are Lame.
We can all win in this life.
We really don't need to go down the path of socialism. Stand tall for our rights and lift others up to our level. Good Luck.
When my non-lds family came to see me (a convert) graduate from BYU, they had a wonderful experience. Funny, though, the one thing they remembered most?
No litter anywhere.
They couldn't believe a place that big could stay that clean.
Chris
Marie, well said, and yes we need to put the day the Lord rested, as part of our values. The 7th day is consider the Sabbath, in which the Lord GOD rested. So we too, should do that. Sambo, I agree with you. give to others is really what it is about, and also put others in the Limelight and work your talents with them. And all will SHINE, to keep our world in a better, safer place for all (UNITED) no matter what go on, we can make a difference.

Yeah, they use students as slave labor to pick up the grounds and keep all those flowers healthy! It is called "service learning" and is a great excuse for student slave labor!
I don't get it. There's something wrong with picking up litter at your school? You can call it "service learning" or whatever. I call it pride in the school you attend. Not everything needs to be "what's in it for me?"
The "slave" labor" pays more than minimum wage by the way. I attended my grandson's graduation today. The Master of Ceremonies stood and thanked everyone in the Church who are TITHE PAYERS for their contribution to this great institution, Brigham Young University. Those students (slave labor) do a wonderful missionary effort by the looks of our beautiful BYU, just like Temple Square; there is a certain 'pride' in how we want the LORD'S university to look!!! Those jobs provide the poor and needy (students) and that is what it is all about. It is honest pay for honest day work. The students learn to appreciate their education. My oldest daughter worked a summer on the grounds detail twenty-two years ago. She worked hard, yes. She now has her PH.D and helps in directing others give generously as donors for education to the university. So, those "slaves" do make something of their lives! Pay your tithes. I have a testimony that those funds are used wisely by the Church and not a "stimulus" package or easy ticket to the dole system. Anna McIntire
Wow. I thought that was a rather inocuous statement regarding the beautiful cleanliness of BYU.
I was always grateful to know that I had a job waiting with the grounds crew, if I needed it.

I was totally unaware tithing funded the University.
I paid much tithing, and had a good GPA.... yet they wouldn't admit me many years ago, supposedly because my high school was not credited....yet other friends in my same school went on to BYU in spite of this....
Why should I pay tithing to help them?? I am saddened by this....
I am happy to pay tithing to help other people and I am glad that it helps BYU, even that I do not have a college education I am glad that young people do go to college and study and better themselves I can not be selfish, that because I do not have a college education, others should not have one!
I was privileged to attend BYU in 1970 and 1971. Even though I was unable to finish my education then, I have always considered it the best time in my life. I have gone on to be fairly successful, but I have always regretted not finishing my education there. I am so grateful for the experience because it made me the kind of person I needed to be the rest of my life. My testimony of the Church was burnt into my soul there. God Bless all of the tithe payers of the Church then and now. BYU is one of the most special places on the earth.
Mrs. degrees were boutniful this day. This is a blessed university indeed.
