Sean Smith could be the best pro. At 6'3, he is an amazing talent. He'll get the chance to prove himself on the field and we will see if his large frame can turn over the hips at a backpeddling NFL level. Kruger is a beast. The question I have is rather his short arms can get into the QB's face in the NFL. NFL DE's usually have longer arms. I don't see Paul moving up to DT (playing tackle) or dropping back to linebacker. Both should be drafted on the first day and play in the NFL. We will see how long it lasts. Sakoda is real intriguing. He doesn't have that super strong leg but it's not weak. He has been so automatic at Utah. Given his ability to punt and kick, some teams might want to have him do both and save a roster spot. Louie might need to prove he can kick off though. There was talk that it wore his leg down last year. As for Brian Johnson. He has those intangibles. Never put up consistent numbers at Utah, but won in the clutch as a senior(NFLtalent?).
They will all flop in the NFL just like Alex Smith. I hope you all have been planning a Career in the real world. Working as a greeter at Wal-mart.
Sure they do......but look what happened to Smith when he heard his name!!!!
A DESASTER!!!!
His career in the NFL has borne that out!
GO UTES!!!!
You are a bitter person who's only highlight in life is a trip to chuckarama and learthby's for desert.
Go play your madden, and dream. (flop and socalutefan) Im sure you guys have never even put on football pads before. Keep sitting in your lazy boy, eating your corn chips, and talking smack on people that are three times the men, and professionals that you are.
These guys will NOT follow in your footsteps. Is that what your idea of the real world is? I guess Wal-Mart is the closest some of you have ever gotten to the "real world".
Which local QB had 3 fumbles in 5 plays?
The same school also produces the NFL QB who has the record for the most interceptions in one game.
Yea!
Is that the same school that has two Super Bowl winning quarterbacks and a hall of fame quarterback?
Are we talking about USC or BYU Because USC is where Jim Hardy played. Jim Hardy holds the NFL record for most interceptions thrown in one game with 8. Seven is not the record which Ty Detmer did do once. Get your facts straight.
Which local QB will soon be known as the biggest #1 bust in the history of the NFL? I think we all know.
While Alex Smith's record as a QB in the NFL has been poor, his paychecks have never been.
$40 Million = Scoreboard!
While I hate to rain on the hatin' parade, Alex Smith did score big (see Whiners), Ryan Leaf will always hold the spot as the #1 bust in NFL history.
I wish all the Utes the best, as well as my Cougs. The opportunity to play football for a few more years and make a ton of money while doing it is probably why the rest of us beat out the glory years on lame discussion boards.
I think there are a lot bigger busts than Alex Smith. Sure, he hasn't lived up to the hype, but he played on a terrible team. That is the problem with being picked #1. The team gets you because they are terrible. Also, he has been injured. I think to be a bust you have to be given a good shot for a couple years and stink it up. I would never say that Luke Staley was a terrible running back just because he didn't make it in the NFL. Detmer never did anything in the NFL, but he was in the League for a long time and dwarfed anybody's salary on this board. Injuries change things.
Also, during this draft season there are a lot of articles about biggest draft busts. I haven't seen Smith on any of them.
Yea, I think Alex Smith is about where Steve Young was at this point in his career. In fact, I think Steve Young's contract was for 40 million, and he was considered a bust after his first few seasons with the Buccaneers. Lighten up, it isn't over and Alex Smith is still in the NFL.
If you think $$$$$ is so important to the YEWTS success, why aren't you concerned with only a HALF FILLED football statium????
The fans know a successful football program and tradition, that is why your Big Brothers down south continue to year in and year out have SOLD OUT attendance.
Smiths $40 Million means NOTHING when he is going down as the biggest #1 bust in the history of the NFL!!!!
But I guess EWE's will still count that as ANOTHER #1
OOCH!!!!!
They are just being babies because they don't have anyone that will be drafted on the first day!!! What a "great" team they had last year, but "wait for this year".....
was not a #1 overall draft pick and his stats are pretty similar to Alex Smith's.
Maybe, to some, ALex Smith has been a major #1 pick bust. But keep in mind. Since he's been there, 2 different head coaches. 4 different offensive coordinators. One of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. And the only receiver worth throwing at is a tight end. Thats sad. This year he'll get a really good chance, because they have not named a starting QB out of the 2 that are running. Also. Other Smith, Sean, will be a great pro player. Out of any Ute player, he has the best NFL body, his size and quickness should make him a 1st round pick, and he could maybe even compete for starting time in the upcoming season.
Alex Smith's first four years in the NFL:
4679 passing yards
19 touchdowns 31 ints.
63.5 rating
Steve Young's first four years in the NFL:
4467 passing yards
25 touchdowns 24 ints.
78.9 rating
Difference: Alex Smith #1 overall pick= bust
Childish behavior is not stating the truth. Utah sold out every game last year and never had a half filled stadium. The biggest #1 bust in history if you look it up isn't Alex Smith. I guess losing 5 of the last 7 years to your little brother rips you up inside. Oh well you have some past glory years don't you? By the way BYU is 1 and 21 against ranked teams. Awesome big brother Awesome.

The question with Sean Smith is is he a CB or a FS?
Kruger is not and never will be a DT. It all depends who drafts Kruger as to what position he'll play. Denver is switching to a 3-4 & saw one mock draft where the Broncos take him in the 2nd round as an OLB.
Should he go to Philly, he could be a DE or OLB. If he goes to Minnesota, he will stay @ DE. If he goes to Miami, Dallas, Pittsurgh, or San Diego he will make the transition to OLB.
I would not mind seeing Paul in Aqua & Orange next year lined up opposite Joey Porter. Parcells and Co taking Sean Smith @ #25 would not hurt my feelings either. Miami could use help in the secondary.
