This is an outrageous story -- that Jerry Nadler and other liberal whineys want to "impeach" a judge for standing-up and delineating for our professional law enforcement (FBI) and military pesronnel what is and isn't permissible in their conduct. That's what lawyers do all of the time in any situation. What's next for these delusional leftists? Prosecute our soldiers for "murder" in combat operations against the Taliban? I say we "impeach" Jerry Nadler and other whiney liberals who are so completely out of touch with what it takes to adequately defend this country against terrorism.
If the Democrats want to start impeaching people for political reasons, I say let them. But as my mother sometimes said, "hide and watch." Because at the rate they're going, the Democrats are getting ready to give up the majority in 2010, and then we'll see who gets impeached.
Let's see, we're going to impeach the person who developed the legal strategy which resulted in fully one-half of the intelligence gained from detainees, perhaps squelching a second Al Quaeda attack on the United States.
Let's think that through.
This is really, really sad. Can anyone with a moral conscience for God's children condone such actions? The man should be impeached, and the BYU law school should reavaluate the kinds of ethics courses it offers.
While they impeach Bybee they can also impeach President Obama for bombing innocent civilians in Pakistan. Which incidents of war are really more acceptable?
What a whimp. And I suppose you believe gay marriage is just fine. You're against the death penalty, but abortion doesn't bother you at all. You libs are all backwards; too many drugs in the 60's and 70's. Move to Eastern Canada "bra."
This is an example of how satan fools us and we think the "ends justifies the means." We are in a good cause so we are justified. We lost the moral high ground here and it is time to take it back and repudiate the tenet of the repulican party that defending America justifies any action.
This isn't about torture... if it were, the Huffington Post would be abolished. It's about empire building and wounding political enemies.
It is a dirty job, but someone has got to do it.. why dont they try to impeach Obama, for trying to socialize our country and throwing down the drain all the blood that has been shed to keep this land free!
We all want to point the finger at the Bush administration for dealing the way they dealt with terrorists.. Unfortunately you have to fight battles the way the enemy understands... (you can not treat cancer with an aspirin) therefore you can not interrogate these terrorists in the common ways..
Typical BYU grad.
Bottom line, is torture legal? If it is can the present
administration instruct Homeland Security to use these
strong methods to make US citizens reveal their weapons
caches? It sure seems like there is support for this.
Hey docmike, it's kind of like how Obama is cozing up to all the murdering dictators in the world and being their buddy. That would be OK because the means justify the ends, right?
It's laughable that liberals talk about 'moral high ground'. The liberal left becomes afraid of heights when standing on an ant hill. When your leader can shake hands with Hugo Chavez and Raul Castro, and smile while doing it, you have no moral high ground.
Shaking hands with a dictator means nothing. We have to deal with all nations to be effective in the world. It does not mean we support them. Fifty years of silliness has done nothing to bring down Castro. Maybe a dose of capitalism would do the trick if we let it.
but something very significant happened in New York and Washington DC about 8 years ago. Khalid Sheik Muhammad under the direction of Osama bin Ladin planned a simultaneous attack on at least four airplanes. Using box cutters, the hijackers slit the throats of flight attendents and pilots, and then flew airplanes full of people into the two tallest World Trade Centers, the Pentagon, and perhaps another building such as the Congress or White House. Filled with jet fuel, the buildings burned and then collapsed. The searing heat caused many Americans to jump off the 110 story building. In all, 2,974 people died and 24 more bodies were never found. 343 firefighters died and 60 police officers died in the collapse attempting to help others.
I mention this, because it seems as if many have forgotten that morning, and what the federal government was trying to prevent. I guess if Khalid Sheikh Muhammad was waterboarded 180 times, we are still 2800 times short.
Bybee is getting the raw end of the deal. He should be lauded for standing up and giving his opinion as to what is legal and what isn't. We should be comdemning the President for running down this country and falling in with those that would like to do away with our constitution and this country. We are at war with someone that wants to destroy what is good about this country. Why are we letting the congress and Obama set aside two million acres of land into wilderness instead of saying enough is enough. Who is going to feed this country? We can't relie on inporting food.
Oh, well, if the New York Times has spoken certainly we should listen. Let me guess---MSNBC, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow agree as well. Certainly it must be true!
No wonder the New York Times is going bankrupt and MSNBC has the lowest cable ratings in the business.
I see nothing wrong with waterboarding if limited ONLY to those who torture and kill for their cause and ONLY to get information that can lead to saving the lives of other innocents. Isn't that what we do in war when we kill or be killed? We are taking life in order to save lives of innocents, because the combatants WILL KILL AND TORTURE for their cause. Are we using a double standard when we allow killing in combat, yet we cannot use these methods to obtain important information to save lives? And choosing this as a fraction of the battle methodology is far better than just killing and more killing and costly detention for life. War is war and sacrificing some humanity is a small price to pay for protecting millions of innocent lives who cherish innocent life.
How many of you posters that are bully for torture are veterans? I served 20 years in the military and torture makes me sick. It is against what I as an American stand for and fought for those 20 years. There is absolutely no justification for torture. When we torture others, we can't take the moral high ground when others torture our citizens. How in the world can people not understand this. Colin Powell was against this rush to torture. Non-veterans are normally the ones who support it.
Right on!!!! I remember.
