My sincere condolences to the Orton family. Bill's legacy will always be admired.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Jacquelyn and her boys at this time of sorrow. He was a great man and will be missed by many.
For my generation a youth, Bill elections he became a political icon, a hero, a statesman, and the best example of what a father should be to me and those who are my age. The state loses one of its greatest advocates. As a senior in high school working on his last congressional campaign, Bill showed me what it takes not to be a politician but a statesman. The lessons I learned from him as I watched him as a father I will take with me the rest of my life. To Jacquelyn, Will and Wes my heart goes out to you. The prayers of myself and my family go out to you.
I campaigned for Karl Snow against Congressman Orton and then years later sat side by side with him on a plane to Washington, D.C., and made peace and found him to be one of the finest leaders Utah has ever produced. I loved Karl, but in the end I found Congressman Orton to be a man of virtue, honesty, and integrity. My heart goes out to Jacquelyn and his sons. He loved them dearly and they too him. Congressman Orton represented Utah honorably and the national Democrat party and President Clinton did him wrong, but Congressman Orton was an upright and honest man when it came to his love of Utah and the Third District. My life would be different if Karl Snow had won. My life will now too be different with the loss of Bill Orton to Utah.
I'm sorrowed by the loss of Bill Orton. I also question Richard Davis's comments which seem more focused on campaign slogans than celebrating a dedicated public servant. I think it shows poor choice.
I was sorry to hear about the passing of Bill Orton. Bill was a good man who had a big heart and a good story. He will be missed by all who knew him. God be with you til we meet again!
My office and Bill's were next to eachother in the Cannon Office Building. We often walked together to the House floor when the voting bells went off. He was a kind and decent man. I especially remember talking with him when his first child was born; Bill set up his congressional office as a nursery, complete with a changing table! My prayers are with his wife and those two boys.
Bill's office was on the same floor as mine when I served in the U.S. House. I was impressed with his principled efforts to represent Utah and enjoyed our friendship. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, sons and extended family at this difficult time.
My sincere sympathies to family and friends.I didn't live in his district, but I thought he was a wonderful politician who voted his conscience instead of party lines. May he rest in peace.
