Spring Game | 10:59 p.m. April 18, 2009
It was a great game. Very hard to tell how much improvement has taken place as the team was playing itself. I didn't notice very many mistakes or incomplete passes. This could be either because the offense was executing nicely or because the defense was not doing their part. Fortunately, if the defense is performing under-par, Gary Anderson's has the savvy to help them more than if it were the offense. That is too bad about John Hendershott leaving the team. I was excited to see him play.
Dallas Aggie | 11:38 p.m. April 18, 2009
Thanks for the coverage. I wish we could have had a webcam or something on the radio. But hey, at least 5000 showed up for the game. Lets hope the injured JC transfer can get healed up. Too bad about hendershott leaving the team. Good job to everyone else and Go Aggies!
Aggie in slc | 4:13 p.m. April 19, 2009
It was a nice game one thing that really stands out to me is the new attitude of the team they work so hard and if somebody is slacking the coaching staff reminds them that that is tolerated anymore. nice work Coach A. Good LUCK

the defense did look a little lost at time but the new offenses that coach A has put in place gives a defense no time to breath or relax, i am sure that the D will come around, Good Luck Aggies.
spring game | 4:21 p.m. April 19, 2009
I have been to a few of the spring workouts and scrimmages and I am very pleased with what I have seen so far. The players seem to have bought into what Coach A and his staff have implemented. I look for good things thinks this year and in the near future up here in Logan.
die hard | 4:27 p.m. April 19, 2009
We are some much further along then we were last year at this time, both with the teams attitude and and our play on the field, lets just hope it stays that way after a tough opening game. keep up the good work boys.
D ? | 4:29 p.m. April 19, 2009
Wow, i hope our offense is really that good and our defense just had a bad day, our backs were running down field all game long. Step it up D.
New Aggie Fan | 4:30 p.m. April 19, 2009
I understand this was the first spring game ever in Aggie land. I was very impressed with the crowd, must have been close to 3,000 people. Many comments in the stands and on the field after the game about the New Attitude. Lots of smiles on faces of Aggie fans both young and more mature. Looks like Aggies will be able to put points on the board and no huddle offense could be a huge headache for opponents
Good time ahead for Aggie fans---the Herd will have lots to cheer for in the fall
HypedAggie | 4:37 p.m. April 19, 2009
Im more gitty that a youngin wakin up christmas mornin! I WILL be making that trip up to Logan for every game!
Borel | 4:39 p.m. April 19, 2009
Borel did struggle a little early but that kids can win games for you with his legs if he has too, I am a little concerned about our defense way to many blown assignments but I am sure Coach A will get that turned around. All in all i was pretty impressed with what I saw, bring in the Herd the Aggies are the real deal.

TheConverted | 4:39 p.m. April 19, 2009
I think I might be a new convert for this "new" Aggie team! There is a aura up there that hasn't been seen in YEARS! Cant wait to see what they do!
Anonymous | 4:42 p.m. April 19, 2009
Gitty up HypedAggie getty up, remember not to speed through the canyon, you will be late for the game.
relax | 4:46 p.m. April 19, 2009
lets not get to hyped up here, Coach A has done a good job and there is a different feel in the air but lets all remember how bad this program has been in the past 10 years I would be happy with 5 wins next year, but i do admit our offense could be tuff to stop.
Baldwin | 4:49 p.m. April 19, 2009
Nice work Coach Baldwin, the offense looked great Saturday, come on defense get it together and it could be a real interesting year up here in Logan.
AFaceInTheCrowd | 4:51 p.m. April 19, 2009
The crowd that showed up was more than any in seasons past.......If that doesn't tell Coach A and the players that the fans are ready then I dont know what will......!!!!
Defense | 5:03 p.m. April 19, 2009
Back away from the defense they will be fine. Loosing Hutton really hurts he was a very solid LB, they will work it out but it will be difficult replacing Hutton, and I am not to concerned about the DB's we have some big time speed back there. best of luck Jake we will miss seeing you play.
Offense | 5:09 p.m. April 19, 2009
Holy Coach Baldwin, we love seeing the no huddle Saturday, keep up the good work Aggies.
Anonymous | 5:14 p.m. April 19, 2009
I would agree that the offense looked good my biggest concern is how deep we are. I like our starters but I am a little concerned about our backups especially at QB. GO AGGIES.
Anonymous | 5:19 p.m. April 19, 2009
OFFENSE 1 DEFENSE 0.
Anonymous | 5:43 p.m. April 19, 2009
I was impressed with the offense. Borels foot work looked great most of the time. When he rolled out, his passes were crisp and on target. The D is still trying to grasp Coach Andersen and Bushes defensive scheme. Summer workouts and fall practice will help. The excitement of the fans, players and coaches all bodes well for great things to come Keep up the good work Coach Andersen and staff. Your work ethics, desire, respect and love for the game is contagious. Keep it up!
GottaLoveEm | 6:47 p.m. April 19, 2009
Kuddos to New Coach Andersen and Staff. Great game, great potential and finally a reason to go to the games supporting USU!! Thanks for the coverage - we appreciate it!!!
Coach A Fan | 6:52 p.m. April 19, 2009
Finally a reason to be excited about Utah State Football!! What a great game to watch. Offense no problem and who better to work on Defense than Coach Andersen. Deseret News coverage rocks!!
OutofTowner | 7:00 p.m. April 19, 2009
Great to be able to keep updated on USU Football. They will be competitive this year. Look out WAC - there is another contender in town!! Thanks to the new coaching staff, we have something to look forward to in 2009!!
Dallas Aggie | 8:48 p.m. April 19, 2009
I am glad to see so many fans commenting on the team's spring game. I must admit, I am a die hard and have been excited even during the extremely difficult years we just went through. I truly think the players that Guy brought in are going to shine under the enthusiasm and structure of Anderson! Thanks for the coverage and Go Aggies!
Colo. Aggie | 9:28 p.m. April 19, 2009
Kudos to the coaching staff, players, and fans. In all the time I've been following the Aggies, I haven't seen this much enthusiam over the Spring game. Great job fans on showing up in this number. I live in Colo. or I would have been there. However, I will be there in the fall, and I hope lots of others will be joining me. If we can put a lot of fans in the seats this fall, it will help this great coaching staff and these dedicated players to start achieving some success on the field. Go Aggies!!
Ade | 9:45 p.m. April 19, 2009
Coach Andersen has brought enthusiasm, excitement and his style to Utah State. I think the players are beleiving in their hearts that they can be winners. Coach Andersen is a great motivator and teacher. The crowd of over 5000 Aggie fans are thirsty for a winner and it will come to Logan. Good luck Aggie football team.
What! | 10:15 p.m. April 19, 2009
How did I miss this? Nice write up......I need an RSS feed hehe.
Converted Aggie | 2:05 a.m. April 20, 2009
I was raised a Ute fan but decided to attend Utah State for engineering and when I moved to Logan this fall the first football game I went to was when Utah came up. I was wearing red. I was the only roommate to leave smiling.

Basketball season started.. the conversion to liking Aggie basketball more than Ute basketball took all of one game. At the U of U game I was chanting "ugly duckling" with the rest of the crowd at Luke Nevill.

I was confused as to what color to wear to the Utah vs USU game next fall in SLC. This spring game though, wow. Utah State looks like a team to contend with. Their offense last year was good, and they looked much better on Saturday than they did against even bad defenses like Idaho and NMSU last year. I know USU's defense isn't THAT bad, heck they held BYU to 34 points after they'd run up ~100 unanswered points in the previous two games.

Long story short - Utah State, Hey! Aggies all the way. Go Aggies, Go Aggies, Hey! Hey! Hey! Utah, "You, you, you, you, you youuuu suck!"
Aggie Watcher | 7:29 a.m. April 20, 2009
Des News thanks for the article on Aggie Football the SL Trib hasn't figured out where USU is. I'm excited to see what Coach A, his coaching staff and players are doing in Logan. Go Aggies.
Knowwhat | 8:02 a.m. April 20, 2009
Face the facts, the defense stinks. It was not because the offense was so good. I think Anderson can help them improve but they just do not have the talent on defense. One positive, no matter what USU had an enormous amount of team speed compared to YBU. Cougars could be in for an upset.
Lousy Defense | 8:32 a.m. April 20, 2009
The defense was horrible. Coach A. said it in his interview, just not in so many words. But at least he's not sugar coating anything. I sure wad hoping that I'd see more signs of improvement with the defense in the spring game. Here's to hoping that the defense pulls together in time,
Knowwhat? | 8:36 a.m. April 20, 2009
Don't be upset if there is not an upset. Keep dissing BYU, it's the aggie way.
Not winning anybody | 8:39 a.m. April 20, 2009
The Aggies won't win anybody with that defense. That is a fact. I'm very disappointed in Andersen's team at this point.
Anonymous | 8:59 a.m. April 20, 2009
not winning, go back to cougar town and get your head out of the sand, this Aggie team is so much further along then they were last year. Coach A keep up the good work the players are working hard and i know there are good things in the future.
Heynotwinning | 9:24 a.m. April 20, 2009
I am sure you didnt make the drive from Utah County to Logan Saturday to watch the game you were to busy watch reruns of when BYU was good. Get a life.
Burning Dinosaurs | 10:07 a.m. April 20, 2009
After last year, I was seriously questioning the value of my season tickets and the three hour drive to use them. I'm more excited for next season than I have been in a long time (like John L.'s second season). I'll be renewing my season ticket and I hope this year we can fill up the place so I don't have to sit by so many BSU fans when they come to town.
The Facts | 10:22 a.m. April 20, 2009
Aggies fans don't be sow quick to attack "not winning anyobdy". Andersen said his defense is lacking. The article was very specific that the defeense couldn't make any big plays. I wasn't at the spring game but Andersens comments and the article say it all and that is this Aggie defense isn't good enough.
Coach A | 11:23 a.m. April 20, 2009
You know what 'not winning', it's great that this is just spring ball. First of all, the offense picked the spread up quicker than the defense picked up their part and it is much more difficult to defend than what the Aggies used to do. Coach A didn't say he saw some good things on D because he didn't. He said that they stunk. Until fall is a couple months and until then I'm sure he will find a way to make adjustments and find a way to put a good product on the field.
Go Aggies!!!
GeoAg | 2:32 p.m. April 20, 2009
If our defense is bad, we are still better off than we have been. Our defense was bad for Guy's entire tenure. So was the offense. Now that things are looking up on at least one side of the ball, I would say optimism is very justified.
back away | 3:26 p.m. April 20, 2009
Coach A is a great coach and I am sure he will do good things in Logan but back away from the upset is brewing talk BYU wins by 21.
tobackaway | 3:41 p.m. April 20, 2009
Coach Baldwin will have BYU's defense so confused I can't wait.
Aggie Pride | 3:57 p.m. April 20, 2009
Go Blue! The Utes won't know what hit 'em!
re: tobackaway | 3:57 p.m. April 20, 2009
Either that or Coach Baldwin will have USUs defense so confused that even a little league team could have their way with USU.
Patience | 4:10 p.m. April 20, 2009
Aggies - we're setting ourselves up for a mighty fall if we are not careful. It is going to take years to turn this program around so please try to be somewhat realistic. This is NOT a championship team and is surely no better than 3rd best in the state.

Be patient, our day will come.
Dallas Aggie | 6:19 p.m. April 20, 2009
I think that the team will surprise many this year. I will be utterly dissappointed though if we have less than 5-6 wins. I honestly think we can pull an upset on Boise at home this year. We hung with them at Boise last year through the first part of the 3rd quarter. As the game is almost the last game in the year, we should be much more mature and confident as a team. We hopefully will have the place packed with Aggies. Who knows, maybe the AD and President will open up the floodgates for local fans by offering a special price that lets everyone bring their kids to the game for cheap. That would be great. The beginning of the year is going to be a roller coaster, but the WAC conference games should show major improvement for our team. Go Aggies.
Aggie fan from UC | 7:19 p.m. April 20, 2009
Coach A has the Aggies moving in the right direction. The no huddle for the whole scrimmage was nice. That alone takes a toll on the D. With the new scheme it will take some time. There is only a hand full of coaches that understand coach A defense. A winning program is on the Horizon.
re: Converted Aggie | 1:31 p.m. April 21, 2009
What you said is why there are so many people who hope USU loses each game, and glad they don't win much in any sport. All their fans can do is put down people and teams, and have NO CLUE how to simply cheer for their team. My advice to you is to not become as classless as others up there who have to hate on others to make themselves feel good.
re: re: Converted Aggie | 1:31 | 1:44 p.m. April 21, 2009
I do agree that we should instead root for our team to be successful and to focus on that instead of insulting our opponent. I am sure though, that there are plenty of other schools that have fans that behave in insulting fashions as well. This includes every school in the state. Just read the boards and you will see it time and time again. I for one am very proud of our school and the athletes. I hope that all fans, from USU and our opponents can have good sportsmanship. Go Aggies!
Singled Out | 5:05 p.m. April 21, 2009
Please you can't single out the Aggies as a bunch of classless fans who do nothing but put other teams down. I'm a regular follower of all the discussion boards on DesNews and you can't say that USU is any worse than Utah and BYU. More insults are tossed between those two schools combined in one discussion board than are thrown all year on USU discussion boards.
My apologies | 11:04 a.m. April 25, 2009
I missed the game because I had to return some books to the library.
