I hate the Utes but Shaq is for real. He will be one of the best running back in the conference before he is done at Utah.
If you hate the utes why are you reading their press. Shaq is for real and so are the Utes. The Y on the other hand is not for real. The only thing for real at the Y is that they are not athletic and they have NO speed!!!
I would love to see Jordan Wynn (or any of the quarterbacks) emerge as a new Alex Smith.
I find it interesting that Jordan Wynn is considered to be from the same region as Alex Smith. Some things are relative. Both played in San Diego County, it is true, but Helix High School is 44 miles from Oceanside High School, a distance equivalent to that between Highland High School and Provo High School.
lesson. Aren't Highland High and Provo High both in the Wasatch Front?
Interesting how the coaches are saying Wynn is involved in the competition for the starting QB job. He isn't, and we all know it. It is a good sign though that they like what they see out of him. He'll redshirt this year and will probably not truly compete until his sophmore year.
Mike from NV. Don't worry about Jordan. Saw him play at Oside and he will emerge. Needs to hit the feed bucket though!! Cmon Wynn, eat somthin will ya! Great job today dude, glad to hear it!
I knew there were no problems!
We are going undefeated this year!
We cannot be stopped!
TDS doesn't even exist!
Our nickname is not racist!
GO UTES!!!!
This article says that there were more than 4,000 fans. This was by far the biggest turn-out for the Red-White game since they started having it (I know. I haven't missed one).
There were at least 7,000 fans. I estimate that there were 7,500 - 8,000 fans, based on parking and the full west side of the stadium was full.
I watched the Red&White game, and came away very impressed with Wynn. I really think the Utes should consider starting this kid. They will probably drop one or two games with him that they wouldn't with Louks or Cain, but it will set the program up for 3-4 great years going forward. This kid is the real deal. Great reads at the line, no fear or hesitation, and has some real zip on his throws.
Louks will likely get his shot at starting, with Cain as a Ratliff like insurance policy, but watch out for this true freshman Jordan Wynn. The kid can play.
I like Louks, but it seems he turns the ball over too much this spring. Plus a fumble at the goal line and a pick??? Cain had no turnovers which you would think is a real positive, especially as a back up. If he is so athletic, put him at receiver like they did with DeVonte Christopher so he can shine and get game experience. If Wynn is that good, it only makes sense
I'm a big Ute fan, but I was really worried about what I saw on Saturday. We are looking at at LEAST a 4 loss season folks. So much for 2008. I don't know what Whittingham and the rest have been doing other than eating doughnuts. The level of performance went from a 10 to 6....if that. The scoring came because the defense basically sat there in the same formation, and most of them looked confused about their assignments.
Lame. I am always hopeful, but the reality is the top team in the conference is no longer Utah by a long shot. I was so disappointed- truthfully, I'd put them on-par with Utah State at this point.
Only if by 4,000 you mean like 2 x 4,000 = 8,000.
It is only the attendance at a spring football game, but to blow the number that bad is a real insult to Utah fans and the Utah program.
Spring Football in Utah will never be the event it is some places like Nebraska, Alabama, or Penn State where they get 60, 70, or even 80,000 fans to the Spring Game. That given the fact that Utah had 8-10 thousand fans to their Spring Game is newsworthy.
In fact the growth of the Utah Football Program "off the field" is a very under-reported story in this State. The local media continues to look to the past (when BYU drove the market) and ignore the future (Utah being at least as big in terms of fan base and fan interest).
Oh well there is a reason Newspapers are going out of business... Those that write can't read, they can't read the writing on the wall.
I'm calling it now. Louks and Cain will battle for the starting spot in the fall but Cain will be the starter. If Cain and Louks are this close without Cain having much time to learn the offense, I have to believe he will pass Louks with several more months to learn everything. Both are fast with Louks maybe being a hair faster. But Cain is probably a little more accurate. Whatever the decision, I like that we have both of these guys. I too was very impressed with Jordan Wynn but he's only 165 lbs. He needs to put on another 20 before he plays or he'll get beat up. I imagine they will try to red shirt him but may need him if Cain or Louks were to go down.
The defense was not allowed to blitz or even bring more than the lineman. They played the same defense the entire time because they had to. If you have been following spring ball, you'd know that the defense has been way ahead of the offense. It would be a little naive to think all of a sudden our defense went bad and our offense went crazy. This game gave the offense some confidence going into the fall but they are not yet as good as we saw as they didn't face a regular defense. Also, keep in mind most starters on both sides of the ball sat out, with the exception of a few lineman, receivers and QB's.
You have to be kidding if you think that was a 4 loss team. Were you watching the same game? The team showed they have incredible talent. Did you not see Wesson's one handed grab? Did you miss Aiona Key's two amazing catches over the db? Did you leave before Jordan Wynn threw a 40 yard bomb right on the money to Luke Matthews? All three quarterbacks had great moments. I've attended the spring game for several years, and this group showed the most talent. And most of the starters were held out. If Utah's quarterback can progress quickly, this is another potential MWC team.
From what I saw, we could run the table again and have a legitimate shot for the national title game because of what transpired last season. Coach Whit is the best coach in all of football! Shaq will be the best running back in the nation before he's done and be a first round pick! Our defense won't lose a beat with James Aiona replacing Kruger. I'm saying it now UNDEFEATED and playing for the NC!!!!!
My prediction is this - Louks will win the starting job by a fraction over Cain. Louks will get hurt by game three and Cain will then be the guy. What I like about Cain is he has actually played (in JC). Louks has just gotten snaps here and there.
Good news on Wynn. If he weighs 165 he needs more than 20lbs though, as someone mentioned. 30 lbs minimum. He'll redshirt but hopefully will develop well.
Does anybody really think this guy is a Ute fan? He's probably a cougar just posing as a Ute.
Of the three QBs, Wynn stood out the most. He was poised, confident and accurate.
Louks is fast, but 2 fumbles and an interception worry me. We don't want a Max Hall on our team.
Cain looked slow and lethargic. I was excited to see him play but came away disappointed.
Brad Clifford was impressive. He broke lots of tackles and made some great catches on bad passes. He's also a great blocker.
Key was also great. With his height and jumping ability he'll be a great asset on 3rd down plays where we can throw the ball high and let him jump up to get it for the first.
Shack also looked great. I hope he gets some time this year. He's a big powerful back and runs very hard.
Shakey Smithson didn't do much, but he was the most intense player on the field. It's great to have a guy on the team that gets fired up and plays with intensity, even in a scrimmage.
I was most impressed with Wynn. The dude can throw the ball. However, it's hard to know from a scrimmage like this what intangibles there are. The scrimmage isn't set up for QBs to run...so it's difficult to predict how Louks' speed might effect coverages and therefore require less accuracy than that of a pocket passer. I thought Cain was okay. Nothing great but nothing alarming. Wynn may not only be the future, but also the present. I was that impressed by him.
What bothered me most by Louks was that he ran off the field as if he'd won a BCS game in dramatic fashion. Dude, you fumbled the ball and your teammate made the recovery...Quit the dramatics unless they're earned.
Sorry,.....little brothers but the YEWTS will looossssssssss at least 4 GAMES this season!!!!!!
