Wow. Now thats a nice piece of work. I'm sure the Jazz will win the series now.
Thanks Dick
than they are getting from the players, Sloan, and management. None of them care about winning as much as the fans do and that is a good reason for the fans to be angry. The fans are being used and the fans know it.
The Jazz have problems. That is not the problem. The problem is that the Jazz refuse to fix their problems and have had 2 years to do it.
There needs to be some real changes, mainly in the management/coaching.
The first change is that I am now looking for a new team for the playoffs. I may not pick a winner but I am going to pick a team that has managers who actually try to win.
doctor, Dick is a "sloanaholic" do you not feel warm and fuzzy all over? related to davey boy not smith but Locke. Of course i tried to email Locke last week and he refused to respond. Heavens to megatroid...Then this all could be avoided by beating the Lakers. I will root and pray for a miracle. They happen-sometimes...
Thanks for stepping back and giving us perspective, Dick. Yep, we could be Clippers or Wizard fans instead. Or the Nazis could have won World War II, and the Jazz would be facing Berlin instead of L.A. in the first round. Or the Big Bang might never have occurred. Then where would we be?
Yep, context is everything.
I think the Jazz would have been better off missing the playoffs and securing a lottery pick. Our supposed strength is how well we play at home, and then we blow games to the Timberwolves and Warriors? I hope the Jazz can take at least one game in this series, but the realist in me sees a sweep coming on. I think we would have been better off with a lottery pick, and letting the Suns take on the Lakers in the first round.
Todd, I am definitely a "sloanaholic" but don't align me with whatever is trying to be expressed in this incoherent article.
"Sloan, Jazz Management, Owners....None of them care about winning as much as the fans do"
"The Jazz don't care about winning championships, just the bottom line"
I think these are without question the most telling statements that you here over and over on these message boards.
Victim mentality.
When something isn't going the way you want it to it has to be because nobody cares about you, it's because the leadership has totally failed...and you deserve better!
I can just see in my mind Kanye West shouting "George Bush hates Black people!!!"
That's right I just compared Jazz fans to Kanye West.
and I didn't even have to stretch for it...
Just came to me...
I'll Even create your response for you...
"fine if you like things they way they are, if you like no championhsips, then go ahead, just sit there and watch the Jazz lose to the Lakers, and get ready for the same thing next year."
To which I will respond....
It's easy to cast desparaging comments towards decision makers while you wallow in ignorance. It is also very easy to justify your desparaging comments when you are holding reality up next to the unrealistic expectations you created in the vacuum of that ignorance.
Before you say something like:
"The Jazz should have made a move to address their weakness before the trade deadline, the fact that they didn't proves their indifference or incompetance or both"
You should probably learn what it actually takes to "make a move" in the NBA.
Before you say something like:
"The only thing Management cares about is filling seats and making money, they don't really care about a championship"
You should probably learn more about the buisness of operating an NBA franchise and compare our franchise with others of comparable historical background and market setting.
I know, I know, what fun is ranting and accusing people of being incompetent morons if you have to fact check yourself before hand?
It's way more fun to just be an ignorant jerk, expecially when the anonymous message board protects you from actually having to be accountable for anything you say.
Magnus. I like you personally. You have some good takes, You are intelligent and write well and have great knowledge. We do not agree on many "fundamental issues" as you pointed out last week. You can say what you want about the Jazz and be in your mind "common sense"., However, you still in my opinion, will refuse to see the questions we are asking of Jazz management and coaching does not mean we are unrealistic and delirious. I know more about salary, you helped teach me that actually. I Other organizations are better at developing young players (you may want to read the quotes of OK CITY GM as to main reason Scott Brooks was hired). I give my name and email, i dont speak for others, but i HIDE FROM NOONE BEHIND THESE EMAILS. IT IS NOT MY FAULT LARRY'S PHILOSOPHY WAS TO SIGN THESE GUYS TO LONG TERM DEALS LIKE KIRILENKO, BOOZER, PAST OSTERTAG. NOW WE CANNOT GET RID OF SOME OF THESE SALARIES THAT EASILY. YOU NEED TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS, DREW GOODEN WENT TO SPURS, MIKKI MOORE TO BOSTON, JOHN SALMONS TO CHICAGO--FUNNY THOSE TEAMS MADE THE DEALS.
I guess the fact that Williams, Millsap, Miles, Brewer, and Kosta all seem to be developing nicely doesn't count towards the "we need to develop young players" criteria, that's a shame.
And about the Trades...
Boozer was injured so he couldn't be traded, once you took him off the table it was nearly impossible for the Jazz to work out a decent deal.
And remember that the Jazz did try to get deals done, but every deal they tried fell through and in most cases it was because another teams could make a better offer.
You act like long tearm contracts aren't a part of the NBA, and that every team in the league didn't have to do the same to get or keep their players. Why do you think the owners are talking Lockout if the Players don't agree to shorten the contracts?
The management you so despise turned one of the worst teams in the league into a Western Conference Finals participant (and youngest team in the playoffs) in two years, you'll have to forgive them if they thought with a little more experience that team might be a titlecontender.
i do not despise management Magnus, but like other organizations mistakes are made. Read my other post. O Connor has drafted well. Miles, Koustos, Almond have to work themselves to get better, Fez also but I feel this talent needs to be further developed and ahead in the careers after now. I know the lockout is very serious, much more than the media says. I thought we were better 2 years ago, that is what I do not understand. Brewer, Millsap for varying reasons lately have hit a wall and not playing as well as a few weeks earlier. I do not blame it all on SLoan Magnus, but you have my word I will not mimic sloanaholics until after playoffs. I have made my points everyone like me can express theyr'e feelings, just like me and you it does mean i do not respect you or all of our posts. Take care.
I appreciate that todd, I really do.
In a way they were better two years ago, and I'll give you two reasons Matt Harpring and Derrek Fisher. Harpring is getting old and if the the Jazz would have been able to keep Fisher I think there is a very decent chance they could have beaten the Lakers last year and I think all of the problems they are having mentally right now wouldn't be an issue.
Just imagine this...Derrek Fishers daughter makes a miraculous recovery and he decides to stay with the Jazz. The Jazz still deal Giri for Korver but instead of matching Miles offer they just let him go. that gives the following lineup for last years and this years teams.
PG: Williams/Fisher
SG: Fisher/Brewer/Korver
SF: AK/Harpring/Korver
PF: Boozer/Millsap
C: Okur/Collins
No question in my mind that having Fisher instead of Knight and Miles and giving him some of Korvers minutes as well, would mean at least 10 more wins between this season and last.
I think we all underestimate the impact losing him like that had on this team.
This was a stupid article. Jazz fans missery and people being killed in war aren't realatable topics. I appreciate the effort though. The Jazz new season starts on Sunday and anything can happen! Go JAZZ!!!
The U.S. Army steps in front in times of danger. So now it's time for Okur and Carlos to step in the paint on defense, and play physical, not just stand there with their hands up.
Stupid rant that has nothing to do with basketball - but thanks for reminding the fans there are more important things in life than the NBA. Now we can all turn our TV's off and go out to enjoy life. Commish Stern would love this too.
I think they need to replace the coach, Harpering ( too old) and Booser.( he is going to opt out anyway) He is not 100% yet. We did great while he was on the injured list. I mean , Sloan has been coaching the same way for over twenty yrs. All other teams are playing different than they did back in the stone age. New tatics, different plays. There are more plays than just the pick and roll.
