the biggest chance i see of 1st round upset anywhere is 2 matchups #5 Miami over #4 Atlanta and yes you make think I am nuts but# #6 Dallas over #3 Spurs. Portland-Houston flip a coin. Denver over New Orleans in 6
Call it the curse of the Chicago Bulls. I can't think of a important road playoff game the Jazz have won since the game five in the '98 finals. Maybe the curse of MJ.
If Miller, Rigby, KOC or Sloan deserved most of the blame. However, I and others have repeatedly made the case all year long that Collins was not an acceptable back up Center.
This is nothing against Collins. I think he plays the best that he can and that is all you can ask of him.
However, early in the year Koufos played well. I am sure he can play better now. However, Sloan will not play him. If Koufos is not the answer then why did not the Jazz get a decent back up Center before the trade deadline?
I am not sure if that is KOC or above him or if Sloan had a lot of input. That one decision cost about 6 or more losses during the season.
The Jazz would have had enough to win back to backs and would have played better on the road while Boozer was out.
The management knew there was a chance that Boozer would not be 100% and might not integrate well on return.
I for one am looking for another playoff team to root for. I have had it with the Jazz management. They play to lose and did.
the Jazz are even in the playoffs is because the management/coaching of the PHO Suns is actually worse than that of the Jazz.
Stop and think about how bad the management of the Suns is and still the Jazz barely eked in. What if Amare had not gotten hurt?
That gives you an idea of how badly the Jazz need some major house cleaning top to bottom.
why i scan these board on and off all day is I look for actual intelligent takes.
the one above me excellent. Backup Center Gee No interest in Mikki Moore but he was good enough for the Celtics.
WE SEEMINGLY AFTER IT LIKELY ENDS SHORTLY WILL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT THE BEST PROPOSALS FOR TRADE. THAT MEANS THE "SMART ONES YES HUMBLY INCLUDING ME AND HANDSOME TOO BY THE WAY, WILL HAVE TO DO O CONNOR'S WORK FOR HIM. HE CAN CLOSE THE DEAL AND WE WILL ASK FOR COMISSION.
BUT OF COURSE, TO "I AM NOT SURE" YOU KNOW 1/4 TO 1/2 THE BOARD WILL SAY WE ARE NOT SUPPORTIVE OF ENOUGH OF THIS TEAM, COACH SLOAN HALL OF FAMER, DEATHS, DIVORCES, ETC ETC...YOU KNOW SOMETHING 2 OF THE PLAYERS WHO KILLED US LAST WEEK WITH GOLDEN STATE, SLAM MAGAZINE RIDICULED THEYR'E NBA ABILITY. BY THE WAY SORRY TO TELL YOU THE 2 BEST POINTS IN THE LEAGUE PLAYED A GAME TONIGHT I HOPE ALL OF YOU WERE PRIVILEGED TO WITNESS-PAUL VS TONY PARKER, GREAT GREAT BASKETBALL. GOOD RIVALRY. DWIL I LOVE BUT HE IS YET IN THIS CATEGORY..
1st round sweep at worst! We win one game at home at the very best! I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE JAZZ! Pack your bags already and go on vacation! Let's see what the off-season brings us!
beating up on the Jazz. They are what they are. Theyare never going to be any better with the players and management they have. Just accept it. They can't give what they haven't got. Boozer is Boozer. Accept that he an average player at best. We need to love them for what they are or send them back to New Orleans where they came from. They are just an average team. That is all they are ever going to be. Let's just be glad they made the playoff. They are making money. Isn't that the bottom line?
"Call it the curse of the Chicago Bulls. I can't think of a important road playoff game the Jazz have won since the game five in the '98 finals. Maybe the curse of MJ."
I think Game 7 at Houston two years ago was a pretty big win for the Jazz.
So what else is new? The Jazz stink. And they haven't shown up for the playoffs since the glory days of stockton and malone. The lakers will put them out of their misery for good, and it will only take them four games.......
I'm pulling for Denver or Portland. Both are playing well and at least have a chance of getting out of the first round.
"...only seven of 30 NBA teams pulled off that feat this season, which says something about both the fragile psyche of athletes and how much of the game is mental."
What it really says is that the referees control the outcome and that they tend to pander to the home crowd. I wish the NBA could get back to playing basketball instead of this strange, referee driven, creation they now play.
How about game 7 against the houston rockets in the first round just two years ago. Boy Jazz fans are pathetic, it is like they feel that the Jazz owe them something. Lets pick up our pride and lets cheer them on, they need it. I personally think that we should be happy that we made it to the playoffs considering all that we have been through. Maybe we should be the Suns with two players that are former MVP's and not make it into the playoffs. Jazz fans are just spoiled rotten brats, they love the team when they are good and boo them when they feel like the team is doing them a disservice by losing.
Go Jazz at least you have one fan that is still here for you unlike the rest of the state.
The great Chris Paul and the Hornets lost to the Spurs (yes, I watched the game)last night) after collapsing at the end of regulation and failing to show up in the overtime period. Chris Paul and the Hornets have also tanked at the end of the season and are only one seed above the Jazz for the playoffs. What I see game in and game out is DWill sacrificing his body and getting battered and bruised while trying to help his team win. I don't see that with Chris Paul.Shame on you for dissing DWill. He's in the SAME league as Paul and Parker.
Success is as much mental as it is physical. That's true in my profession; it's true in the NBA. There's a component of talent but the talent gap between Kobe/Lebron and Deron/Carlos isn't nearly as big as the mental gap. Great players like MJ, Bird, Magic, etc. had a mental toughness. MJ's Nike commercial about failure and success is a perfect illustration.
The current Jazz roster is woefully lacking in mental toughness. Deron has the most. But the other self-proclaimed stars (Boozer, AK, Memo) aren't worthy to carry MJ's gym bag for mental toughness. That needs to change or this current roster is a perpetual lower-seed playoff team.
Jerry's not any help. He has stated that players mental state isn't his responsibility. He's wrong but he doesn't know it. Management's primary job is to help their workers (players) reach their maximum potential. The only caveat to that is the players willingness to change. Jerry needs to help Boozer, AK, and Memo be tougher, mentally.
Mental toughness is the difference between @home and on-the-road performance. Jerry and the players need to GET TOUGH
KO'C wanted to wait to make a trade to see what the team would do when healthy. Well, now he knows. Looks good on paper, but lacks any heart.
I couldn't agree with you more, and I'm the "other" fan who is still in the Jazz corner. If the Jazz win the series with the Lakers,, these fair weather fans will be right back on board, basking in the glory. There is nothing that can be done about the team this year; we are going into the playoffs with what we have and the team needs as much fan support as if we were the one seed and LA was the eight.
And just how many titles was it that the great Stockton and Malone won in NINETEEN years?
Jerry seems to be the common denominator in the entire Jazz history of no championships. Maybe He really is the problem? Maybe his style doesn't win championships?
To the first eye patch poster, your not a Jazz fan so stop pretending to be. Lets have a little faith in our team. Yeah they have not been playing good at all, but why get down on them when they need us the most? Im so sick of you fair weather fans, who are always backing the team that will win a championship. If that is what you want, jump ship and become another one of the millions of pathetic gold chain wearing laker fans who cant even name one player on the team besides kobe. Also, eye patch the great idiot Us real Jazz fans know your not one because you didnt even know about game seven against houston two years ago. Your a pathetic human who is most likely a lakers fan deep down inside, i also bet you were a warriors fan two years ago, a cardinals fan last year, a giants fan a year before that, and you just jumped on the tampa bay rays and pittsburgh steelers train as well. Do us Jazz fans a favor a stop cheering for our team. GO JAZZ, shock the world and your fair weather fans.
And letting Derek Fisher go was really a bad decision. Should have at least traded him for something. Lakers got a starter for free. How stupid was that.
Man Magnus and Todd way to go into the night with the posts last night. While 20 years of Jerry is enough for me and it should be enough for anyone. (Only in SLC could that happen.) I think the larger issue goes to Jazz management. KO had a chance to bring in some defensive help at the trading deadline and he didn't. In fact when you look over the last several years of drafting the Jazz have a history of taking offensive players. While I know it's hindsight, let's look at this a little bit.
2002: Borchardt? if you are looking long and athletic? Prince. We missed Booz and got him back!!
2003: Pavlovic? Kendrick Perkins, Barbosa. Jazz got it right in the 2nd rd. Mo Willams and let him go.
2004: Humphries? Snyder. Al Jefferson/Josh Smith
2005: CJ....Ronny Turiaf.
2006:..The jazz got it right with Brewer and Milsap.
2007: Mo Almond...Carl Landry, Glen Davis
we also got Fess...Mark Gasol was there
2008: Koufos...still to early to tell on his defense? Bataum, George Hill, Chalmers, DeAndre Jordan. 2nd Rd. Tomic...Walker, Hardin...continued below.
