Kindle — scriptures everywhere

Kindle will Dwindle | 6:40 a.m. April 16, 2009
Amazon dropped the ball on Kindle 2. Further its proprietary nature makes one wonder why anyone would bother when there are freebooks coming out on Google in an assortment of open standards that can be read on any PDA.

Considering you can get a fully new laptop (checkout netbook PCs by Acer, Dell or HP) for the same price as a Kindle 2, the device will always remain relegated to the technologically addicted...

What a wonderful advertisement!

Oh wait, this is a column. I usually enjoy Brother Card's columns, but this one was not up to par.

Mr. Card. I thoroughly enjoyed your article. I, too, have the original Kindle, which has its limitations over the Kindle 2. But I enjoy it immensely. I have never tried using it to search the scriptures in Church, but it provides me the ability to take my scriptures everywhere I go and it's easy to carry and store. I have tried scriptures on my PDA but it doesn't provide the same reading capability as my Kindle. I have downloaded conference addresses from 1897 to current. I also enjoy the ability to switch back and forth between reading material without carrying a load of books. I am 77 and reading is pretty much my most observed past time. Personally I see it becoming one of the reading standards of the world. The only real problem I see, is you can't loan a book to someone. Keep up the good work.

I love people like Card who keep electronic scriptures on their PDAs and cell phones. This way I can text my friends while in Church and people will think I am actually reading scriptures!

LOL!

Hopefully, having the scriptures so readily available for Brother Card will spur on his creative juices to finish the Women of Genesis series. I'm a male, but my wife made me read them, because she knew I was an OSC fan already, and I liked them as much as almost every other thing I've read of his.

So please, Brother Card, please finish the Genesis series so I don't have to think about what present to get my wife for the next major holiday after it does come out. :)
