This think tank is making a lot of assumptions that have no merit. First of all who says any of these illegals will register and legalize themselves so they have to pay taxes? And who is going to force them to register? What kind of country allows and invasion then forces its enemy to register? This would put a big crimp in the lucrative profits businesses make by employing illegal foreign nationals that they don't pay any taxes on. Although assembling these 20 million illegals is costly there is no guarantee's that illegals will register or voluntary leave this country. Our past lack of enforcement and ignoring the problem has turned it in to the costly enforcement of our laws. Now this government wants to put on their blinders again and hope for the best. Governments attitude and lack of willingness is destroying this nations economy and the lives of millions of americans. Giving blanket amnesty is nothing more than an attempt to cover up past lack of enforcement of our national security and laws. Amnesty will solve nothing and put this country in to a deeper recession with the same 20 million illegals wandering our country.
So a think tank representing illegal aliens thinks it will solve all our problems?
The SAW act of 1986 proved amnesty does not work, it only invites future problems. The SAW act gave birth to our problems now, as millions came to this country look for the next amnesty window.
Ask yourself this: with most agencies not enforcing the laws right now, they are not lifting us out of recession. Why would making them legal be any different? There would be no reduction in ICE officers, since the border strife will continue to keep them busy.
I don't see millions of Americans that are out of work, accepting 12 million more people to compete against for jobs.
If the idea is to end the recession, the reduction in social services, schools etc by deportation. would be a much wiser step. Then let in a few highly skilled workers from other countries.
You would have to be an imbecile to believe that increasing the supply of workers at a time when workers are over-supplied would be good for an economy. There are ulterior motives here. That much should be evident.
We finally have someone who is looking at reality.
The biggots who would like to blame minorities for every crime don't see the struggle to work, buy homes and cars and get kids into school.
Oh this is rich, now those who flauted our laws at almost every turn are to be legalized in the interest of making them better "consumers." Consumers of what, social services?
Catch them, confiscate everything they own and dump them over the border to Mexico. If they were all deported there would be plenty of jobs for US Citizens. Would help welfare agencies a lot.
The democrats want the votes and the republicans want cheaper labor for their buddies, and the people want illegals immigration stopped. The costs of illegal immigration is being carried on the backs of the middle class. What is new?
We need term limits so we can get rid of our bad congressmen and the lobbyists that line thier pockets.
Ahso 4:38am is so correct. That 1986 amnesty was the "amnesty to end all amnesties" according to its sponsor Sen Kennedy. And the other 6 amnesties that he sponsored after that were only to make everyone legal. The first one was offered to 1.8 million and 3.2 million showed up. The others amounted to 7.8 million in total. One thing that is evident is that for every amnesty offered it brings in more illegals. Now we have somewhere between 12 and 22 million to give amnesty to. The next wave in 15-20 years will be more again. The world has a few billion that would come here if they could just get to our southern border. I guess if the politicians are happy that is what will happen. For those who would like to help some really poor people you can send donations to relief agencies in the poor countries or donate to the Dos por Uno program in Mexico. How unfair it is to the guy in the Philippines who has been waiting for 10 years to immigrate legally only to be told he has only 3 more years to wait.
@MAC
No biggots here. We just happen to live in the world called reality. You need to read Boo's post.
Nobody has blamed the minorities for every crime. Why would you want to say that unless that's the way it appears. It just happens that when a illegal commits a crime they usually do it big. Killing 4 cops in cold blood stands out a little more than white kid holding up beer store gets beat down by elderly cashier.
If we didn't have those 20 something illegals here you likely wouldn't be having a problem to find work, to buy a home or car, or have a child in school. The pay rates would all start to normalize because employers wouldn't be getting something for nothing anymore. Unemployment would drop dramatically since there would be more jobs. And don't come back with the American folk wouldn't do the jobs the illegals do because that's BS. Plenty of starving folk out there that would do anything to help their families.
Immigration was never a problem. Illegal immigration is the problem. And is currently a massive drain.
Same story. Politicians and special interest groups want to pander to illegals. The middle class wants illegal deported and laws upheld. It's time to get rid of both, illegals and politicians.
Let's see if I have this straight. Someone breaks into my home. Because he has blessed me with his presence, I should provide him with part of my house to live in, feed and clothe him, and love every minute of it? This is essentially what an illegal immigrant is doing.
Those who pay the price for citizenship should enjoy its privileges, those who don't, should not. Legal immigrants that have become citizens should be welcomed. Everyone else should wait their turn.
Something that is not earned is not appreciated and will be taken advantage of.
They'd become better consumers? You mean they all of a sudden would become loyal to the U.S.? Of course they would not. Instead, they would continue to send most of their money down to Mexico -- which after all is the country of their real loyalty.
The most shameful of our enemies, of course, are the Democrats, with their insatiable lust for power, and the Republicans, the party of Avarice and Greed. Both of these shameful outfits have demonstrated a willingness to sell out our country.
This "report" is simply more of the same.
Arthur Raymond has his head in the sand, and has listened to only one side, some "think tank" and the Chamber of Commerce. Everything in this article flies in the face of common sense and provides propaganda support for open borders, illegal alien ethnic groups and cheap labor employers.
Once we give amnesty to those that have broken the law by entering illegal, there will be no way to stop those living in poverty around the world. There are at least 5 billion living in worse conditions than Mexico. The 1986 Amnesty was totally ineffective. The government does not have the ability to control the border or enforce the return of those on visas.
Arthur Raymond the writer of this article has put very little logical thought into this piece. These thoughts come primarily from groups such as the Sutherland Institute and the Chamber of Commerce, both of which are primary supporters of cheap labor. This article belongs on the opinion page, not in the news sections.
The article is just another attempt to rationalize and/or intellectualize their way around enforcing the law!
Illegals are still illegal - no matter how you want to say it.
If my govt. EVER DID get rid of all the illegals, I would be all for re-negotiating the terms of their re-entry, but unless and until the law gets enforced, those of us who live by the rules will simply have to HOPE that our govt. does the right thing and ENFORCES THE LAW!
I'm all for legalizing immigrants who are here to work temporarily. But we should NEVER offer a pathway to citizenship to illegal immigrants while those who are patiently waiting for legal immigration are left out in the cold. We should adopt immediately a constitutional amendment stipulating that the children of illegal immigrants or of immigrants on temporary work permits born in this country are not U.S. citizens. And then I would be happy to issue as many work permits as immigrants needed. We should get a DNA sample and fingerprints from anybody who wants a work permit. At the same time, we should place into labor prisons anybody who does not have a work permit.
Liberals and democrats don't own Businesses?
Liberals democrats aren't rich?
Liberals and democrats don't need or want cheap labor?
Who wants amnesty the most? Liberals and democrats.
