What great news for the future of automotive! It's about time someone built a car like this. Hope it'll signal the end of our dependence on foreign oil and start supporting and investing in our own domestic products.

Scott

Sounds like they copied the Chevy Volt plan.

Tammy

I'm ready to buy now, thanks for this innovation. The sooner this is made available to the general public the better.

me

This will be a real boon to us who depend on foreign oil. This is a real WOW !!!!

Jeff

I work for Progressive who is sponsoring the Progressive Automotive X-Prize. These guys could win. Won't it be amazing if this technology becomes the standard? A conservative city producing an automobile that conserves. True conservatives should applaud this, and I for one am.

re: Scott

You are kidding right? These mpg specs basically make the Chevy Volt a waste of time.

The mpg specs on the volt are not even in the ballpark with this technology IF it proves to be accurate.

The volt mpg (according to the EPA) ranges from 48 to slightly over 100 mpg depending on how the tests are performed/criteria (according to the EPA).

Raser says their technology would translate to approximately 400 mpg for cars.

The other funny thing is the GM's battery technology to make the Volt happen is still not totally finalized.

Funny how a small lean company like Raser seems to be able to develop superior technologies (allegedly)than a behemoth like GM.

Another testament of why unionized bloated giants like GM are NOT too big to fail. They are the epitome of what NEEDS to fail.

Bankruptcy reorganization is just what GM needs. They have got to get rid of these ridiculous wasteful union contracts so they can innovate instead of paying uneducated union employees till they die (whether they work or not) like they all have their doctorate.

No wonder they are in the mess they are in.

No sympathy here.

Go Raser.

PHEV

Yeah, why do they frustrate us all by limiting availability to fleet vehicles rather than just making plug-in electric vehicles available to anyone interested?

We'll never see it.

The patents will be bought up by large oil companies just like most of the other inventions that could save us from having to buy their product. Exxon-Mobile will pay the inventor all at once what he/she would take years to earn. They do it all the time.

Did

they say how much would one of these cost to buy by the consumers? That is a gripe with news like this. Yeah it is a good thing, but if it is going to cost as much as a house, then I can't afford to buy one.

get a clue

the volt isn't a hybrid.
it is an electric vehicle.
the gasoline motor is a generator.
it doesn't supply mechanical energy to the drivetrain, it recharges the battery.

Shaun Juan

100-400 mpg is probably based on using electricity instead of gas for x miles per day. So while it may use less gas in the tank, we don't yet know how efficient this system is and if you'll just pay in electricity instead.

I hope there's more to it and I'm wrong, and anyway, this sounds better than what we've got so far.

The Informed

The concept is similar to the Volt, but the electric motor is completely new and revolutionary. This will make the Volt and most everything in production today obsolete. Just think, a full size SUV or a Midsize pickup truck with this kind of range and capabilities. Raser is an up and coming company that we should all keep an eye on.

jp

Why would you put this in a Hummer? Why not something a little more aerodynamic?

Stewart

We keep hearing these PR releases from Raser, but nothing shows up. I am still waiting

Evets

Seeing is believing. We have yet to see anything let alone a working model. So far a lot of talk. I really do hope these guys are on to something and that this is not just hype but I am not going to get excited by these daily press releases until I see something actually working and tests that prove it really delivers on the promises.

Jim

Notice the cost of the vehicle wasn't mentioned. I'm guessing $80K. Anyone really know?

Soul

I trust the technology is out there for the taking, 100 mpg engine for a 2000 lbs vehicle.

However, the challenge is to have this vehicle travel non-stop for 400 miles a day, and quickly recharged for the next day usage.

When that capacity is verified to my satisfaction, only then can I consider purchasing such a vehicle.

Oh wow!

Here we go again with another one of these fantasy stories! This is all baloney. Ther is no such thing as 140 miles per gallon unless you put a dinky engine on a skate board. Next thing is this group will either be seeking investors or grant money. It's the same old bs!!!
