Well said, Mr. Florez.

I've peripherally followed the controversy surrounding the issue of this land swap. But Mr. Florez puts forth some interesting questions that UTA and state representatives would do well to respond to. My experience is that UTA really does want to work with communities. As for the legislature......
My opinion: | 9:31 a.m. April 13, 2009
Somehow, whatever it takes, UTA should be forced to use the original ground at 140th. I think the legislature was misled on the land swap, and, hopefully, things can be reversed and UTA will have to use the 140th ground.
I DON'T THINK, however that UTA works at all well with the local communities, however they do "make nice" with the mayors, BUT - the illusion of better service is not the same as ACTUAL better service. Recently UTA took 12 or so valley Mayors to Europe (at taxpayer expense) to "see how rail lines are built in Europe", that goes a long way towards getting the Mayors off their backs so they can go ahead and do whatever they want.
UTA does some things well, but they HAVE room for a whole lot of improvement and as long as they play the "smoke and mirrors" game, the local Mayors seem to buy into their nonsense!

I think the original site is not being used because residents don't want a train station near their homes (traffic, noise, etc.), which is an understandable concern. UTA picked another location that won't affect homeowners but they do have options besides these two locations that won't affect residents or impact the environment. So in this case, it's also putting public and private interests ahead of environmental concerns.

It's shameful that we're not protecting the find and its artifacts. It makes me hope that there's a law that can be used to stall the construction long enough to have some common sense injected.

Where in Utah do you think that you will find a place where "common sense" is common? Were it common, EnergySolutions would not have the option of turning Utah into the planet's nuclear dumping ground, nor would they own the legislature. In this state, about the only thing its inhabitants share in common is ignorance - willful, blissful ignorance.

So what you're saying is that you feel right at home here?
