Sherry Young: Addiction to celebrities simply isn't healthy

No kidding. A little over a year ago I was teaching a training class and some of my students (some in their forties) were more consumed over Britney Spears being admitted to the hospital than paying attention to the material at hand that was essential for their livelihood.

my sisster is the 43 year old mother of 5. She can tell you ANYTHING you don't want to know about celebrities. She's on line everyday reading about them, when we get together, she brings a stack of celebrity magazines with her. When I say it's my daughters' birthday today, she'll tell me the celebrity that shares that birthday.

It does seem like an illness in a way.

Great topic! I can't get my hair cut or wait for the doctor without having a lot of magazines offered to me that seem to unabashedly revel in a celebrity's poor choices or dysfunction. I take my own magazines now, but can't help wonder what is happening to the teen-age girl in the next chair who reads with avarice each juicy morsel of the glossy gossip. I think the Pinsky & Young study warns of a serious danger. Surely, we can do better than feast on this kind of stuff! And surely we can help those in our next generation do something much better with their minds! Thanks, Sherry Young for shedding some light on an important topic.
