I don't know if I'd call it an ugly win. I feel RSL dominated the game. Especially in the 2nd half when DC looked like complete crap. The comparison of total shots will confirm that. This could have been a shutout around 4-0 if we convert a couple more good chances and Borchers doesn't fall asleep on Emilio.
I think the real question here isn't how good Real Salt Lake is, but rather how many smoke bombs and firecrackers have we seen thrown from the stands so far? Have they implemented security measures to prevent that or are they letting it go like they did in last years playoffs when Chivas fans were throwing them and our fans followed suit in the conference final game?
Great game, a win is a win...and I wouldn't call the second half ugly...more like dominating. Which is impressive against DCs 5 midfielders.
smoke bombs and firecrackers? i only saw streamers where were you sitting?
Grabavoy substitution = AWESOME MOVE
Cox substitution = AWESOME MOVE
Those two were the key to really cranking the pressure up in the 2nd half and helped give Javy the opportunity to be in the right place at the right time in the 80th minute.
Why are we not starting Cox vs. Beltran??? That kid has WHEELS and can really work that left side of the field... Wingert can switch so easily, start Cox!
So glad we got season tickets! Exciting game. Totally agree with previous comments, great to see those subs come in, we are starting to see some of the depth we need to keep winning. GO REAL!!! Beat those stupid red bulls!!!
Boo-Yeah
Such a great game. It was so exciting and the crowd did provide a good atmosphere.
Smoke bombs and firecrackers? There wasn't one that I saw and I was right in the middle of the staduim. Great game and we're off to a good start this year. We dominated the game. Cox should start in place of Beltran until he gets his game together. I was a big Movsisyan fan at the end of last year, but not so much at the beginning of this year.
If we can pull off a win at Red Bull we will be well on our way to great things this year. New York has been our buggaboo team and to beat them at their place would mean a lot. Not to mention we need to keep up with the leaders in the points (even if they do have an extra game under their belts).
RSL dominated the 2nd half. The 2nd goal was awesome. We definitely deserved the win over DC. RSL has looked sharp this season. The game at New York will let us know if we are a great team.
I can't believe how Will Johnson can run around and pressure for 90 minutes. Awesome.
The first half was surely "ugly." Both teams looked pretty poor: no team movement off the ball, too much direct play, poor marking on both sides, etc. However, the halftime talk from Kreis must have been great! Second half was vastly improved. The subs were great moves, but I think we're going to have to find a valid 3rd option up front; we had it last year, but I haven't seen that option yet in 2009. Hopefully Alexandre comes along quickly.
Perhaps you missed the news, but it looks like Fabian Espindola is on his way back! That should give us some great depth up top. Expect the announcement before April 15.
Loved the game. What a great bunch of players! Fans need to be there supporting them! We need to fill the Riot. Go RSL!
Only got to see highlights and stats, but it looks like y'all dominated us. Highlights showed about 8 quality chances for RSL versus just the 1 for DC.
I was at the game, and while I am a United fan, I do like to see Real do well. My take on the game: DC's midfielders were superior through most of the game, and especially Beckerman looked sloppy and lazy during the game. Defense was basically a wash. The difference was up front. DC had the one great header by Emilio, but really never tested Rimando. Real, on the other hand, has speed and heart up front, and that was what won the game. I was especially impressed with Findley, who was occasionally back near his own 18, winning balls, and then running forward. Crayton (DC Keep) was kept hopping all day, so good work Real, but the midfield really needs to step up some more.
On a side note, I saw something I never thought possible - Mathis running, full speed, the entire length of the field. He didn't get service until too late, but who knew Mathis could run?
What's with this article...RSL wins big last week and it was because the keeper gift wrapped the win for them. Granted 2 goals were the keepers fault (one bad kick, One mishandled punch out), but the other two were awesome, which means we still win 2-1. I only got to listen to the game this week, but it seems like we worked hard once DC scored the first one goal. It seemed to be a wake up call. Sometimes teams need that, especially in those conditions. Even with 2 wins now in 3 games, there is still not a lot of love for RSL. Sad.
When we win the cup we won't care who is supporting with us. Cheer up we have won 2 straight and we might have ESPY back! It's a good time to be a RSL fan just like it's a good time to be a Barca fan. Go RSL!!
Is there any other way to win. Soccer is just UGLY.
RSl will go on their usual losing streak during the summer. And then when they fold that stadium will just sit there and waiting for the next time the Eagles are in town.
