Please Bronco, when you're picking up 6-8 yards a pop, keep the d_ _ _ ball on the ground in place of forcing it into turnovers. Second, look at the CSU film over and over, watching Hall's eyes, and his on-field mental process's and find another QB to play the second half of November and into a bowl game. Maxie can have a 160 IQ, but on the field he isn't hitting above 70. With 25 yards of open grass in front of him, he too often panics and tosses a terrible pass into the hands of someone wearing a different color jersey, and then the ragdoll fumbles, Oh My!. My blood pressure will drop 40 points when this kid is gone.
The potential for a really good team is there so now a win against the Sooners would be a sweet way start the season. Bronco just needs to help them believe.
The Fireside - I mean Football - season is approaching too soon. I am still having nightmares from last season.
Why couldn't Bonco ask them to "lift their game" last year with the 'Quest'. Perhaps he could have asked them to lift their game against TCU, or maybe against the rival Utes. Or maybe he could ask them to "lift its game" against that unranked high school team from Arizona in the bowl. I'm so glad he is asking them to raise their game now! It is spring ball, and the doors are closed to the public. They canceled the Blue/White scrimmage and now he asks them to "lift its game." What is there to lift their game for now? How about you ask it when it matters?
Call me a doubter, but I think it's the same old thing. Let's be happy with a winning season. Maybe we can play in the Las Vegas bowl. And if we can beat a 5th place PAC team, we've had success. After all, football is fifth.
hey, did I get in here before the nagging utes? Woo hoo!
I was disappointed with how we ended the season last year, but of course hope springs eternal and I'm looking forward to a great season
Go Cougs
The cougars are certainly one of the best in the conference, no question about that. But until they consistently play and can beat some of the best in the country as LaVell did, they haven't earned the "one of the best in the country" labels. I think Coach Mendenhall is doing a good job, but the standard set by LaVell is still in the future and a goal to achieve. Not there yet.
even though i am a ute fan ..i don't hate ...i just won't particpate in trash talking as you all work hard and are lead by a good man!! Stand strong poly brothers as you are role models and someone is always watching you for direction...and really that is oft times so important when you do the little things which are good and consitent ..leading into great things...stay safe and protected ..take nothing for granted!!faa!!
Looking at the pudgy players I'd expect him to forget the game and try to get them to life some weights!
The cougs are the best . . . except in our bowl games. Go cougars!
Go COUGS!
One of the best teams in the country?
What the country knows about the Cougars is that they are unathletic and they crumble when pressured by speed and athleticism.
Academics, character, spirit are great for firesides, but on the field speed and athleticism are required to be one of the best in the country.
Bronco needs to beat a good team before he proclaims the Cougars one of the best in the country.
I'm always amazed at all the know-it-alls that think they have all the answers. If you don't like BYU's approach don't follow them. Find someone else that fits your view of how things should be done.
There are plenty of us who think things are going in the right direction. We may not be able to always compete athletically at the very highest levels but we can compete with the highest levels of character, work, desire, and determination. Football is much more than who can run the fastest. I think it's brilliant to leverage our strengths. I'm glad BYU does what it does and I put my money where my mouth is.
Good luck Cougars and thanks for who you are.
So disappointed that the Bronko did not come up with a theme this year. The trib has some excellent idea's on shirts for you fans...
Las Vegas Bowl - Runner's Up
Utah 48 - BYU 24
"Half as good as the Utes"
It's gonna be a long season for the Y'ners.
Wow, It didn't take long for the playground argument "If you don't like it leave!" to come out. I'm not sure if you realize that if we all had that philosophy there would be 0 progress. Crowton would be at the helm and everyone would have left. The cougars would play their thrilling brand of Football to 20 Coeds and Crowton's next of Kin.
I'm excited about this year if:
1. The defense can get healthy
2. The offense spreads the ball around
3. Unga runs like a man on 3rd and short and doesn't dance
4. If we can beat the Seminoles and TCU(too much to ask a win over Oklahoma)
11-2 is a great record
Let the unbelievers mock, but this is the year the Cougars will shut the mouths of the critics.
The resolve of the Cougars has been tempered as steel in the fire of adversity.
An opening day victory over Oklahoma will capture the attention of the nation.
A string of blowout victories will follow, leading to the BCS championship game wherein the execution, character, and spirit of the Cougars will carry them to a national championship.
All I know is this - I think the odds are better than even that the Y will have a better season this year than last, and last year was not bad. It simply didn't measure up to expectations.
And odds are far better than even that the U will not have as good a season as last year.
No wonder Y fans are upbeat and U fans are full of vinegar.
Love the sarcasim, Howard! Keep it up as it is some of the very little posted here that is worth reading.
Magic Happens!
"Lifts its game" sounds like the prelude to another slogan. We need performance and meaningful results not platitudes. We have politicians for that (and Mr. Harmon and Mr. Rayburn) Prove and demonstrate it on the field rather than talk about it. Thats what we are waiting for.
The coaches are learning as well as the players, which is the sign of a good program. The coaches know what they're doing, and as far as speed/stregnth goes, they have ALL FREAKIN' SUMMER to lift and run. They could be the best conditioned team in the league and still play poorly. Spring ball is about working on skills, which they've done well, and for the next 3 months it's all running and lifting.
Go Cougars! I expect great things this year.
