Coach

You have some good men who are also good players. The W-L column is important, but we love the Cougars either way.

Ernesto de Bajo

After getting bogged down a bit in the readers' comments, it is nice to get an assessment straight from the coach.

Dave

A tough non conference schedule will taint the glossy 11-2 records that Y fans are accustomed to, but this team could contend for a MWC championship and most importantly be Utah.

Bronco has been told by Samuelson that his first priority is to recruit and sign LDS kids. To contend each year with this edict is really an accomplishment for the coaching staff. One can only imagine how good the Y would be if the handcuffs were removed and Bronco could sign the athletes he knows he needs to win a BCS game!

To Ernesto de Bajo:

An interesting observation. My question...was Bronco having a lucid moment when he spoke to the press or did the DN clean up his comments to make them clear and understandable?

What do you think?

Coach.Sell That Story Elsewhere

I love Cougar fans to say things like that when they lose. The W-L is all that matters when you're winning. But when you lose, the "good young men" comments come out.. What a joke...

This article leaves me with unanswered questions about the team. How good is the secondary? Hall was 5-6, but please tell me that it was against the 2nd or third team secondary. I would hope the starters would do a better job. Has Hall learned to spread the ball around? If the completions went to 4 or 5 different receivers, that is a good sign. Go Cougars!

CALBLUE

I agree with Dave except the last time the handcuffs were pulled off, we ended up on national news for crimes committed by the players and lost a lot of respect. So going to a Bowl game each year and beating Utah will make me happy. If we are able to do more great. Go Cougs.

re: Dave

Maybe the better question would be, What if Bronco and the staff could successfully recruit all the best LDS talent in the Country? The edict from President Samuelson would then be right on and would make for a terrific program year after year. Unfortunate for BYU, however, is that the very best year after year do not all come to the school. Some of the very best go to Texas or USC or Utah or even USU; They stay in florida, go to Oklahoma or Nebraska...and it is a good thing. But it is NOT that Bronco has to recruit only them, those young men simply choose to go other places.

I liked your take, but I think it was looking at the concept from the back door.

Simply put, If BYU could recruit the top 15 LDS kids every year, they would compete in a couple of years for the National Championship year after year. I think the health and growth of those young LDS athletes are as good as any athlete in the Country coming out of High School -- Florida, Texas and Oklahoma notwithstanding. They would.

This is going to be an EXCITING season! Some GREAT non-conf. games & the upper level conf. teams @ home. BYU will be the favorite to win the conf. title & all of that nonsense abt. BYU's lack of speed will be forgotten again as we manage games & force teams to "go the length of the field, mistake free," which they will rarely do. Our biggest "problem" will again be scoring too fast & not resting our defense enough to maximize their efficiency. TCU & Utah wish they had problems like that. Max is stoked, the defense is reloaded, Harvey is healthy, Pitta will be unstopable, Chambers will emerge, Jacobson & Hague will help us forget abt. the loss of Austin...'09-the year of the Cougs!!

As always, BYU will be pretty good on offense, but as soon as hall gets flustered, he will lose it and throw 4 interceptions to lose the game. Also, no matter how talented the defense is, they will always be a bunch of slow white guys that can't keep up with faster receivers/running backs. I do hope that BYU wins all their games this year, but if they don't I will not be too disappointed. It should still be fun to watch. And who knows, maybe they'll surprise us all this year and have fast players, and Hall won't choke every game.

the program is doing well

We haven't quite gotten there yet, but we're definitely on our way. We're competitive in conference every year, and are on our way to being competitive nationally. So this will be a great year and the years ahead will be great years as well.

Yes Coach

give us the reak story? Well stated by poster---when the L's hit hard it becomes all about some other facet----LOL

Re: Dave

if Bronco could recruit anyone he wanted what would he have? He would have the Utah Utes; otherwise known as BYU Salt Lake. over the last 5 years I think BYU fans would love those results including off field results.

For you yewts out thier if you thnk your so great why are you worried and always on our blog. If your so good stay off of our blog. Are you alittle worried about the up coming year? We have an experienced Qb back you don't. We are in the same position you were in last year, with our tough MTN. West games at home. The difference is we have a much tougher schedule than you had. I would take an Oregon State, and a Michigan over Oklahoma, and Florida State. Our path maynot be on chdule for a BCS game but I think we will definately beat you and TCU both this year so get ready to eat some crow you sorrowful bag of tail feathered yewts.
