Bad trend and getting worse.

What a shame and I am sorry to say, from an LDS perspective, many members are not listening to the council of the church leaders. I have three step kids that declared bankruptcy all in about 18 months of each other. There is no excuse for it and they are paying the price now. In a marriage, there has to be one spouse that puts their foot down, it can be done.
It never ceases to amaze me that a lot of folks just have to have everything right now - a new house, furniture, car, boat, trip to Disney World - and throw themselves into impossible debt to get them. What kind of example are we setting for our children when we get in over our heads and decide to avoid responsibility and simply run away?
Sometimes, other things happen, job loss, illness that eats away savings or not having health care to begin with. To say it is always the debtors fault is not being truthful. I didn't plan on being poor, losing everything I owned and not being able to repay my creditors. I also didn't plan on having surgery with no health coverage. Life happens.
There are always exceptions to the rule, but a 56% rise in bankruptcy in Utah is more then job loss, illness. I have been in situations without health coverage, not great to be in. I had a friend that had no health insurance, she had to have a hysterectomy, that was back when they did more evasive. She spent years paying the bill, about $55.00 a month, but she paid it off. People will work with those in debt, but a lot of times the people that have run up their debts want an easy way out. People use to be able to have bad credit and go buy a house, not anymore, as it should be. There are responsible people who have to declare bankruptcy, but sadly, most of those that do are self indulgent and lack common sense, it sounds like you do not fit in this category, so please don't take offense when discussions are about the other type. Good luck in getting back on your feet.
