I was lucky enough to see "Destino" on a cruise a couple years ago. I think your column describes it perfectly, equal parts weird and whimsy. As a fan of Dali, I was enchanted. Hopefully it will be available someday...

I have seen the film a few times at two art exhibitions in Finland. The first was at a Dali exhibition and the second in Helsinki at the exhibition "Walt Disney and European Art". My guess is that it will continue to be shown at different art exhibitions... I would still be happy to have it on DVD

I was also lucky to see Destino (onboard a cruise), a truly beautiful piece of work. I can't wait for it's release, hopefully sooner rather than later.
