I love this , more funds for social welfare programs, yes this will most certainly help rebuild our shattered economy!
Food banks, child care and vaccinations? I mean really. Government money should go to the wealthy. They can donate to the food banks and community health clinics if they choose or stimulate the economy by buying a yacht. Trickle down economics are what made this country what it is today.
Well, lets hope the money gets to the people via the government.
Before the greedy rich were taking it and that wasnt working so lets try it.
Insanity is doing the same thing day after day expecting different results.
At least this is a different action to the one that wasnt working.
that you object to ?? Help for the poor, our Native American communities, vaccinations for our children, help for our Vets (which they have lobbied vigorously for), expanded benefits for those who are out of work and looking diligently, despite the enormous job losses.....get off your partisan high horse, and show some compassion. If you have a better idea, by all means, tell us your magic plan !
Yes social welfare spending does help stimulate the economy. We need to help others that are in need, it is mean to deny people an existence because they are less fortunate than others. People in need ore more likely to spend the money than people in wealth that hoard the extra money.
i believe that this is good as long as politicians
don't get their hands in the mix.
feeding the hungry and homeless is the best
and providing some help for the uninsured of this state.
Did you even bother to read why the Govt is giving money for social welfare programs? It's to help keep parents employed. Thank goodness we have a president with a plan (and some smarts).
You say that the rich will donate to the poor, but in Utah not everyone is LDS so we miss the boat. If the rich really would give to all local nonprofits that help people, then we would not have an issue. Instead the rich LDS only donate to church programs. Places like the Road Home are doing good--they help people who just lost their jobs or home avoid homelessness and get back on their feet. The March of Dimes has a great program to help moms struggling financially earn points towards items for their children by visiting doctors. These are not free-rider programs, but rather ways of helping people get back on their feet.
1- Just where is all this "FREE MONEY" coming from?
Washington cannot create wealth, only confiscate money from those who have earned it somehow.
2- What "strings" are attached to this "FREE MONEY?" Are matching funds required? Must the programs be continued after federal funds run out?
3- Is this the best use of our tax dollars at this time?
Have there been cuts in any government spending, other than in defense?
Our kids and grandkids will be paying through the nose for all this pandering "generosity" for decades to come, and enjoy a far lower standard of living.
Every little part about this is wrong. Just as curious was saying, this money is going from those who have to those who have not. It is socialism, and that is not of God. In this country, people have the right to succeed, and the right to fail. When the rich are FORCED to pay for the poor, that is not right. Obama is saying he wants people to get jobs suck as doctors, teachers, etc to give back to the community. Well, it just so happens now, that if we do do that, we will earn more money, adn the more we earn, the more we have to pay for the lazy people who don't want to do anything. That is not encouraging to me to go study harder. Socialism is wrong, in all levels, no matter how generous you are trying to be, it is only legalized stealing.
The government should not be in the business of wealth redistribution. I donate freely to charity and if I stopped many folks I'm Utah would be hurt by my stopping. What the Feds are doing creating a sense of entitlement when in actuality we need to have a sense of personal responsibility. Responsibility to stand on our own feet. Work whatever jobs we need to to feed our family.
As for LDS Programs.., they are open to all. If I were in desparate need I would contact them. You won't be turned away but they will want you to actively pursue becoming self sufficient. You can't stay on their program forever. The governments program will enslave. The church program will uplift.
Like much of the rest of the so-called "Stimulus" package, this is nothing more than advanced social welfare. The left is using a natural business cycle to shove socialism down our throats, and we will be paying the price for generations to come.
Face it, folks. The idea here is to get everyone dependant on the government for everything. But eventually this system will collapse under it's own weight. Do the math, people.
Curious: No defense cuts--4% increase in spending in budget. Whining doesn't make it a cut.
"Confiscate" is such a great word used by those who dislike paying any share of the cost of living in this country.
Someone wrote that socialism is not of God. huh?
Let's see now: God must be a libertarian... or a republican?
Please. Jesus said to take care of those who are less fortunate.
No?
Why is it that democrats seem to be more Christ like than...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
Luckily we have a very good man sitting in the White House.
if your so against the package don't accept the money...but no most of you will be writing grants, paying your bills with it and working in the very areas this money will go ...then speak out the side of your mouth as usual...if you talk the talk , then walk the walk ..it's called integrity!!
Each dollar received has strings attached. Every bit of welfare creates more dependent people. We should be helping people help themselves, not creating more helpless people. I've been there, done that and it's possible to pick one's self up and start again... but not if you're on welfare. There's no way to get off of it!
The reason socialism is not of God is because you lose your agency. Don't fool yourself. And this is not a Democrat or Republican issue, as both parties have become socialist in nature.
Study the words our president reveres... those of Marx, Keynes, etc. Look at the records of those he's nominating, they are for taking away the sovereignty of our country. Each welfare or socialist program destroys our country's basic principles and values a little more. Each hacking stab at the Constitution removes more of our civil liberties. Don't be fooled by the handouts, there are strings attached.
Our state government is foolish in accepting any of this "stimulus" money.
Just curious. When did God reveal his preferred economic policy to you?
Previous comment should have read "to K" in the heading line, not k. I am curious about the answer though.
For the person "interesting".... those "rich LDS" people you are referring to DO donate to church programs... those church programs then turn around the help all those local charities. Did you happen to see Welfare Square downtown? The place where Catholic services gets its food to feed their masses? Did you happen to check church records about how much of the church monies goes to local charities that help out local people? Who do you think has been sustaining the programs in this valley and state since the government has left us in a bind? Just because those "rich LDS" people and the church don't go around bragging and expecting praise for all the good they're doing doesn't mean they aren't supporting local charities. Get your facts straight before you make it a religious issue. I don't remember all the LDS people in the valley being the wealthy you refer to.
Jesus didn't teach us to force charity.
The LDS do give tremendous amounts to charity outside of their own people. Do the research.
I am a single parent with six still at home. I give to my church over 10% of my income. I also gave to Relief organizations in Africa, and to local organizations helping the poor, such as the food bank. For Christmas my kids chose no gift for themselves and instead paid for a solar oven, breeding rabbits and seeds for a community garden in Africa. In order to do these things we must grind our own wheat and make our own bread and rarely eat meat but have beans instead. We keep the heat at 60 and wear sweaters. For entertainment we go to the park and get Netflix. We are not unusual. I have friends that could live in a mansion if they did not help so many people. And we do it anonymously.
Now, contrast that with the Obama's record on charitable giving. (Even to their own family members - it is shameful!) It is one thing to talk it and another thing to do it.
Let freedom ring!
