Nice compliment. Looks as though Coach
Whitt has the guys practicing hard, and a kid like Beadle is a great example of recruiting by Urban and Kyle.

Utah MANN | 9:43 a.m. April 8, 2009
KW will have this team ready to go in September. Yes we a have some guys that are inexperienced as far as playing time at the D1 level however this team has the right mind set and with running backs like Asiata, Shakerin, Wide, and Stowers(yes his is back). Please keep in mind that there are several incoming freshman that have yet to hit campus that are supposed to make some noise this year ie James Aiono, the 5 star defensive end. Are team is STACKED with talent. Looks like we could have another GREAT season. I say we win at least 10.

GO UTES
Very excited!!! | 10:38 a.m. April 8, 2009
Can't wait for the first game. Beadles is such a stud.

"You can't say enough about the guy," said Whittingham, who added he wouldn't mind having an entire team of players like Beadles.""

Ahhhhhh....sounds like it's time for a group hug! Ain't love grand? Must be Springtime!
Quest for......... | 12:16 p.m. April 8, 2009
Hey Zane, if you are such a leader off the field, come up with a snazzy slogan for your team this year. Yeah, BYU's slogan "Quest for Perfection" last year was a bit much. I think Zane could come up with something so much better for his Utes theme this year. How does "Quest for A Shower, A Shave, and a Haircut" sound? I think you are on to something!

What is the status update on Marquis Wilson? Is he on the run, literally?

This is for all of you Harline Zoobies.

KRUGER IS STILL OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
re: Kruger is still open | 2:29 p.m. April 8, 2009
Kruger is still open and in need of a shower, shave, and a haircut!
re: Quest for | 2:34 p.m. April 8, 2009
I actually do have a life, as well as a shower, a razor, and a barber. I can't decide if I am looking at a prison lineup or a football team whenever they show U of U press. Have some self repect to go along with your trophies.
Re: Quest for.... | 2:41 p.m. April 8, 2009
You are on to something. Afterall, it was Utah's basketball coach, Boylen, who came to Utah, took one look at the athletes, and decided that he wasn't going to tolerate his players looking like a bunch of thugs, so he made the guilty as charged get a haircut and get cleaned up. Novel concept. Maybe Whitt should show some class and follow suit!
re: Kruger is still open | 3:20 p.m. April 8, 2009
Don't you mean it's the third round of the draft and Kruger is still waiting?

Yeah instead of all the slackers he's stuck with. Gonna be a bad year for Kyle. Six maybe 7 wins at most. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!
Nice one | 3:40 p.m. April 8, 2009
Excellent points Y-ners. If you can't beat them on the field, beat them in hygeine. Really, you think that the Utes look like prisoners? Outside of your campus, facial hair does not equal prisoners. By the way, have you seen any pictures of Harline recently, all covered with tatoos, long hair and playing in a rock band. I still find it hard to believe that grown-ups (ie., Y-ners) have to be treated like children. At some point you have to grow up. Parents, if your kids need to be coerced and forced to believe and behave in a certain way, please send them to BYU. They aren't strong enough for the real world. On the other hand, if your kids are mature, can dress themselves, and can think for themselves and behave in a respectable manner without threats and coercion, please send them to the U.
Re | 3:49 p.m. April 8, 2009
I hope you Utes enjoyed your 15 minutes of fame last season because you are in a world of hurt this year. I saw your scrimmage. You don't have a prayer unless one of the Manning brothers gets special permission to play QB for you this year. And, your defense is WEAK. Its a good thing you have a sports writer who knows how to church it up, otherwise you would have a tough time even selling tickets. I will personally enjoy watching you eat the turf all season. Its called KARMA. BYU is going to destroy you, so get ready to get laughed out of LES. Can't wait to see Whittingham cry like a baby again.
Re: Quest for.... | 4:01 p.m. April 8, 2009
Did a zoobie REALLY just point the finger and taunt the Utes for developing a catchy "team slogan"? REALLY?

Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Zoobie hypocrites just KILL me!
Re: Nice one | 3:40 p.m. | 4:15 p.m. April 8, 2009
Is that true about Harline? Hilarious. If it isn't true...hilarious post. Right on point, too.

Why BYU people think that the world has to abide by their standards is beyond me. Oh, wait...the world is their campus; looks like they are having some difficulty enforcing their standards. The entire world should be compelled to go to the BYU testing center.
Nuggets | 4:34 p.m. April 8, 2009
I think the Denver Nuggets easily have the deepest roster of prisoner look-a-likes.
Beadles is the man and I can't think of a better lineman to anchor the Ute line this season.
Zoobs are at it once again. Since they get owned by the Utes they have to complain about something, if it's not attendance, it's gotta be hair and showers. Must be a slow day down south.
Re: Re | 3:49 p.m. | 4:49 p.m. April 8, 2009
Yes, and you are the guy who who predicted Utah would loose each week last year. 13 times you made that prediction. Thank you and keep up the good work.

The name "Y-ners" is going to stick - Love It. Since when has such a short name said sooooo much, and soooo dang appropriate.

RE: RE 15 minutes of fame - who are you kidding. Two BSC games and undefeated seasons in 5 years - AWESOME!
shhhhh | 5:51 p.m. April 8, 2009
I don't see anyone from the U disputing the fact that their football players look like something you would find at a garbage dump. I am talking about present players, not ONE who played 3 years ago, and that info is disputable. Argue all you want but a person's hygiene and personal grooming speak volumes on their character. Ask any professional in any business on the planet. Ask your illustrious Coach Boylen, or are you going to throw him under the bus because he made a stand on players not looking like thugs? it has nothing to do with an Honor Code. It has everything to do with personal honor and how you want to represent yourself and your school, two things you obviously have no interest in! Thanks for proving my point!
SoCalUteFan | 6:53 p.m. April 8, 2009
Please, please stop all of the degrating!
Why can't we be civil in our blog talk???
This article is about a football player, not the personal hygiene of the football team......
Please just stay focused on Beadles, not his teammates, okay?
I am sure the Y has players less than perfect in their personal hygiene, don't they???
The NIT | 8:09 p.m. April 8, 2009
What a bunch of stupid comments from the "Y-ers". Get over it and get a life. Zane Beadles looks like a fine young man - no matter which school he attends. He happens to attend the defending national football champion University of Utah [OK - so officially they were only ranked #2]. I'm glad he's back in the line-up and it appears Coach Whittingham feels the same way. He will anchor the line just fine.
Zane Beadles | 8:31 p.m. April 8, 2009
Starting player on the Utah football team AND an engineering major? My hat is off to this young man! Clearly a leader among his peers and Coach Whittingham as every reason to be proud to have him on the team.

Go Utes!!!
Kruger is still open! | 8:22 a.m. April 9, 2009
I agree that Beadles will be the best offensive linemen in the MW this year, with out a doubt.

As for Kruger still being open, ask Max Hall. Don't take my word for it.
Sad | 8:55 a.m. April 9, 2009
This whole conversation about long hair, tattoos, and facial hair is really sad. I truly feel sad for the person that keeps posting about how these people need hair cuts. You are probably a sad, racist, shut-in who is just terrified of the world around you. If your age is any less than 70, the fact that the mentality you have still exists in a person who knows how to use a computer just blows my mind. The world has progressed in a lot of positive ways in the last 100 years. You would probably prefer that women and blacks couldn't vote, but that is just wrong, just like it is wrong to assume something based on appearance.
These are college kids for crying out loud. They have obviously made some good choices. I truly hope that you did not learn what you are preaching on this board in college, because it would be amazingly sad.
15 minutes | 10:40 a.m. April 9, 2009
15 minutes of fame, really? well enjoy the vegas or new mexico bowl again byu.
TheHailstorm | 11:20 a.m. April 9, 2009
For the record all of those little 15 minutes of fame did for the TDS was pour $ 750,000 - 800,0000 dollars into their athletic program courtesy of the BCS Bowl Game victories. Do you want to return the money since the UTES paid it out to you or accept it as a gift given grudgingly ?
Re: Sad | 11:30 a.m. April 9, 2009
Judging a person by they way they look IS taught in college. Or at least it is at BYU. At the "why?" they actually have grooming standards, AND a board of fascists to enforce it. Students can't be trusted to make their own choices, or decide for themselves what they like and don't like. Independent thought and critical thinking development are discouraged. When the prophet has spoken, the thinking has been done for them. If you have long hair, you must be an evil and rebellious person. If you were sandals, you are unclean. Even Jesus sported a crew cut and wingtip kicks with his popped-collared Polo shirt.
Re:Re:Sad 11:30 | 12:41 p.m. April 9, 2009
I think that you just fell into the trap that the idiot who originally posted those things was setting. BYU is run in a respectable way, but some of the students just go too far sometimes. You just come off as bashing the religion when you use terms like "fascists" and talk about the prophet. You come off sounding just as closed minded as they do. You just affirmed the idiotic image in that persons head that Ute fans are anti-Mormon, and hate BYU just because of the religion. I think most Ute fans just hate BYU because of their idiotic fans, it really has little to do with religion.
Ernest T. Bass | 12:57 p.m. April 9, 2009
All of you byu fans just better watch out because Alex Smith is going to win the SuperBowl next year and Andrew Bogut is going to win the NBA championship this year. That will show you all! So there!
To Y fans | 12:58 p.m. April 9, 2009
Jesus had facial hair, probably longer hair than most football players, and most likely didn't get to shower much. Maybe the Pharisees tried to use that against them too.
utwingnut | 1:07 p.m. April 9, 2009
First time reading a Utah thread. There are fewer posts here than on the BYU thread, but for the most part, there are the same percentage of idiots and idiot posts. Here's to a great game November 28th.

Rise and Shout!!
#68 | 1:17 p.m. April 9, 2009
So glad that Big #68 is back! Who cares how he looks b/c when he's pancake blocking the opposition he will have a helmet on. He is going to be one of the true leaders on the team this season. I hope that he is voted as one of the team captains. Zane Beadles, Zane Taylor, Watts, Bergstrom, A'asa, Finner and Caleb S. are going to be a good bunch. I wish for once these message boards could discuss the article itself instead of going off on any sort of tangent possible. Go UTES!
truth to both | 2:45 p.m. April 9, 2009
I'm sure the Ute players are great guys off the field. They're honestly probably just normal guys. But honestly the hair and tattoos are scruffy looking and gross. I don't know how they can be comfortable looking like that.
Outside of Happy Valley | 3:00 p.m. April 9, 2009
People do have beards, different hair cuts, and *YIKES* different skin colors! (Can you imagein!?) So, rather than make fun of people from different cultures and backgrounds, we should try embrace them. Afterall, even the LDS drawings of Christ show people with beards. Brigham Young et al would probably be outcasts in Utah County, because they look different from us...
Bashing | 3:04 p.m. April 9, 2009
Y do Y fans come in here and Y-ine over an article that has zero to do with them. It's not even talking about the season or a football game, but a player on the team. I can't wait for Y? athletics to get better so their fans can start bashing on team perforamance rather than on haircuts, shoelace knots, former stars, and anything else that has nothing to do with the actual sport.
Wow | 3:19 p.m. April 9, 2009
I have a great idea. Lets Round up all of the Utah football players. Give them a crew cut and have them gel their bangs upward, maybe toss in a few highlights, get their tattoos removed, and will someone please get them some cargo shorts and a T-shirt that says HOLLISTER right accross the front. oh and dont forget white running shoes. In a football game would you rather have a Line with agressive looking "Prison" players, or a line of kind gentle returned missionaries?
Here's the real question | 3:21 p.m. April 9, 2009
Why do Ute fans bring up BYU on posts about their articles that have nothing to do with them. Then they come on our articles and relentlessly gabb about our team. That's what's really annoying. Maybe if you mind your own business we'll mind ours.
Re: 3:00 p.m. | 3:34 p.m. April 9, 2009
There are people of other skin colors (i.e. black, poly, Latin-American) that aren't covered in tattoos, piercings, and dreadlocks. That kind of physical appearance on anyone, black or white or whatever, makes a statement. Ask people from those ethnicities who aren't covered in tatts and piercings and dreads, and I'm sure they don't appreciate that kind of stereotype with their race.
uneducated | 6:20 p.m. April 9, 2009
It is funny how none of you Utes even addressed the FACT that Coach Boylen came to Utah and publicly said he wouldn't tolerate his players looking like "thugs" so he made them clean up. Last time I checked Boylen wasn't Mormon or affiliated with BYU....he just has an understanding of what is respectable and classy and what sends the right message about his team and the university it represents! Can't wait to hear the responses now!!!!!!!
re: uneducated | 6:49 p.m. April 9, 2009
That is a true fact that Coach Boylen said that, and it is also a fact no matter how sad or unfair it is, how you look is a direct reflection on what lifestyle and values you represent. If I had a young son and he wanted to be a football player and I wanted him to have good role models, I would most likely steer him towards a program where the coaches had some control over their players' appearance. That speaks volumes about personal respect and integrity. I don't think any parent hopes their kid will grow up to have a body covered with tattoos or long scraggly hair. Be honest. That look attracts the wrong kind of people. Sorry.
Different perspective | 7:01 p.m. April 9, 2009
I have never commented on these articles before and probably won't again but I have to say something. I am not Mormon and not from Utah and my son who plays football isn't either. When he told me he was going to Utah to play ball, I was thrilled that he would be in an environment where the values I have taught him his whole life would be the rule rather than the exception. I have always taught him to present himself in a respectable way. I forbid him to have earrings, tattoos, and long unruly hair. I have to admit my surprise the first time I came to his campus and met many of his teammates. It isn't just Mormons who want their kids to respect their bodies and present themselves respectably. The coaches should have more control over this in my opinion.
Amen | 7:41 p.m. April 9, 2009
Finally, someone gets it! This isn't a BYU vs non-BYU or Mormon vs. non-Mormon issue! There is nothing racist or un-Christian about asking for the players who represent our schools and our state to show a little respect for themselves and their team by cleaning up their act. Correct me if I am wrong, but other schools besides BYU have rules about drinking and drugs, etc., so don't make common decency and self respect and morals about one particular religion or religious institution to make yourselves feel better that you can't live up to any kind of standard!
Simple math | 7:48 p.m. April 9, 2009
Let's put this whole issue to rest with a simple math problem. It is called being able to rise above the lowest common demoninator. Are we going to settle for the "thug" look, or are we going to take the Coach Boylen approach of cleaning up our look and showing some respect for the team and college we represent?

6-5 | 7:20 a.m. April 10, 2009
Yes, that was the record of Michigan, the team the cougies beat to win the National Championship. I was under the impression that in order to play for the national championship you had to at least be ranked and be one of the best teams in NCAA Football. Alabama was 11-1 and ranked number 1 for 5 straight weeks. You tell me, are the cougies deserving of their title? I'd say no, but it is too late to re-write history. However, if the cougies are proud of that win, it goes to show how sorry that game truly was (oh and to come from behind and beat a team that was 6-5, wow, what a win). GO UTES!!
Anonymous | 9:27 a.m. April 10, 2009
There must be nothing worth talking about over at BYU if they take so much time posting on a Ute article. Wouldn't it be easier to just hop on our bandwagon? How can you guys still be BYU fans after last season? They disappointed everybody and you still buy into all of their preseason hype.
