Boy does anybody else have a hard time feeling sorry for poor Laura? Look Laura, there is only one reason for a home not to sell. That is that the price is too high. It is abundantly clear that you and your husband are being unrealistic about the value of those homes. Any home will sell if it is appropriately priced for the current market. Eight of them? Perhaps you and your husband will apply a little common sense and risk management in the future. For the present, enjoy bankruptcy. The good news is you'll have lots of company.

I have zero sympathy . Get a job - many many companies are hiring. THe "victimstance" is tiring and boring. They can reposition those homes either to sell or to rent to bring in as much cash as possible. Sell on contract - do a rent to own or just find renters to at least have them bringing in some cash. I would never have stood for my husband being without a job when he is able bodied for 1 whole YEAR... it may not be the job of your "dreams" but get to work !
Still TOO EXPENSIVE... | 9:16 a.m. April 8, 2009
Here's a clue for Laura... Your offerings are still too expensive. I'm in the market looking to buy a home. RIGHT NOW. Some of the builders are offering relatively "steep" discounts (from a year ago), and promising additional bonuses due to federal stimulus. The Used Market is still too high... some areas are consistently too expensive for the value they offer. Utah is in serious denial right now about just how much their land is worth... Having just sold my home for a steep discount in a different area of the country, I have to admit I've seen few compromises out here. Real Estate Agents are really busy, but that's because there's so much on the market right now, and not a lot of turnover. The only good news is that I'm starting to see the used home owners actually paint their interiors. A couple months ago, NONE of the houses I looked at were even doing those simple improvements. So a few people are starting to get it... Real Estate Agents are still in serious denial though... of course they're trying to sell...

I'll buy! | 10:30 a.m. April 8, 2009
I'm currently in the market to buy a home, and I'd be glad to purchase one of these homes. The current market for homes is just over $50 a square foot. Just let me know the MLS numbers and I'll peruse them. That is unless you are so greedy that you are trying to extort > market value for your homes. If so, they are worth more to you than they are to me, and you may lie in the bed you made.

FYI: It still costs over $110/sf to build; existing homes are far less expensive to purchase than it is to build an equivalent home.

I do feel bad for Laura, My Husband and I are real estate Brokers in NM. We have been hit really hard with only 2 sales all of last year when we used to do 2 a month. My husbands knowledge of construction has saved us. Save your home. Keep working hard, Have some faith. If you are LDs pay your tithes you will be amazed how you made it through the month on hardly anything. Maybe one of the homes you have would be more affordable for your family? Good Luck! I feel your pain
