Actually Jared, one must remember that we started out the season with Setzer [sic?], it took a while for Borel to get going, but once he did, look out!
Defense | 11:46 a.m. April 7, 2009
I think the Offense will probably be the most notable improvement this year. But I think the defense will still be the achilles heel for this team. It will take Andersen at the least 2 full years to get the defense with the speed and athleticism it needs to be able to match Andersen's expectations.

The complete re-construction of this football team will take time. You can expect improvement year-to-year. But don't expect to much as there will definitely be some soft spots on this team. Soft spots that can only be replaced by recruiting.

I think Borel had more rushing yards than Turbin last year. I'm glad to see that they are going to work on using Turbin's speed. Turbin and Borel could possibly be two of the most athletic players at USU right now.

Hopefully USU can get 3 wins this season! Go Utes!
Hey Yay! | 8:49 a.m. April 9, 2009
USU is now coached by a man named Gary Andersen who coached your Utes defense last year to a perfect record and a more than impressive Sugar Bowl win. While 3 wins is still very likely for the Aggies next year. One thing for sure is that it will only get better from there. Why?

* Andersen is viewed as one of the top recruiters in the nation.

* The man can coach. While hats off to Whittingham. You can't help but give credit to Coach Andersen for his impressive defense.

The Aggies are not doomed to always be at the bottom of the barrel. With the right commitment, right coach. They can be competitive. And although I would never use USU and BCS bowl together, I do think this team has the potential to be very good in years to come.

It wasn't too long ago that we beat U of U back to back. I think it was 96 and 97 and went to a bowl 97. I guess all things have a cycle. I think the utes are a great team, but it is very easy to fall from a #2 ranking, and we are moving up from a very long stay near the bottom ten, but you will see vast improvement this year and every year after that. Go Aggies! I can't wait for it to start!

In sports years 10 years is a long long long time.

Yes, and during those 10 years we had woeful support from the School in terms of funding and allowing us to being an independent football program...that was the kiss of death, which is why we are now finally starting to breath life back into the program. Wait and see my friend...we will be competing again shortly. Go Aggies!

Hey, we get to play the Utes in SL this year. That will be revealing as to our initial progress and the team's character. The truth is, we've got a tough uphill battle to get to respectability. But ya gotta start somewhere.

Every game starts at zero and we've got a chance to compete and surprise some people. Coach A brings experience, enthusiasm, and know-how. He knows how to win and will, sooner or later, instill at least some of that instinct and expectation in his players. But it'll be a tough challenge.

I think a realistic expectation for 2009 is five wins. That would be significant progress given our past and the 2009 schedule. Of course, our target should be much higher, and with commitment and a little luck we can do better. But, in my opinion, five wins should be the base-line standard to measure our first-year progress.

For win-starved USU fans, like myself, five wins in 2009 will not be enough, but it will be the initial progress and nourishment needed to see realistic possibilities for conference contending teams down the road. Go Ags!

I agree with UTAG, 5 wins would indeed be improvement, and a good barometer. I hope for more and will cheer my heart out that we can do better. Go Aggies!

I don't expect too much from the Aggies this year, but I would like to see what looks like a well coached team.

As I've watched over the last 8 years or so it seems to me that the Aggies never really looked like a well coached football team. They have had a hard time developing and keeping young players, they have seemed to lack discipline and composure, and they haven't been able to develop an identity. Those are all coaching responsibiblities and the Aggies haven't had any of it.

I look forward to seeing what coach Anderson can do!

GO AGGIES!
5+ wins | 2:00 p.m. April 10, 2009
I think the Aggies will beat SUU, NMSU, and Idaho for sure, and if Hawaii is the same as last season, they are a win. I think the Aggies will be able to finish the job and put both Fresno St. and La Tech down. And who knows, maybe that Aggie offense will be able to over come the San Jose defense in Logan this year, I could see it happening. I don't think the Aggies will beat either Nevada or Boise. Aggies lose to BYU and Utah. So I think we are looking at a 5-7 win season. I think the Aggies will have as many wins this season as they have had in the last 3 years.
re: 5 plus | 7:06 p.m. April 10, 2009
So basically, you still think the team stinks and will stink. Nothing is going to change in that program.
Mars | 12:10 p.m. April 11, 2009
I'd be OK with 5 wins next year, but the following season it better be .500 or more.

Go Aggies.

I think 4 wins is a reasonable goal.
