Of course, let's wait for the Federal Government before we do anything. I mean they've done such a bangup job since 9-11 on illegal immigration. In the meantime, the invasion from the south continues unabated. Way to go!

Shurtleff is a flake

Trust Shurtleff to tell the illegals he is going to leave them alone, in other words do nothing about illegal aliens and our laws at all levels of enforcement. The illegals should be scrambling to the mexican borders ASAP, with their offspring, just to keep the families united. We cannot allow illegals to abandon their children and if they do this is another crime to add to their lifestyles. So we will see how spineless Shurtleff really is and his harbouring illegal aliens in this state. If the american people, especially in Utah, could get some eforcement of illegal alien laws maybe we americans can keep our identity from being stolen.

justTOOmany in Los Angeles

Being politically correct seems to be more important than enforcing the law for your local sheriff. Wouldn't want the ACLU to come down on him with law suits for protecting citizens rights with existing laws. After all, the ACLU has unlimited resources to prosecute sheriffs in little towns like yours. Pretty scary.

At least you're not a sanctuary city like Los Angeles. There is ZERO enforcement of immigration law here.
(not even a scared PC sheriff)

Here, you better not ask for a living wage when you apply for a job..... they'll just hire someone else that works for less. Forget about benefits, illegal workers don't expect them, so employers don't offer them to anyone, legal or not. And they expect you to speak Spanish too.... everyone else does. If you want a job these days.... better be bi-lingual or Tri-lingual adding Armenian, Arabic or Russian. Maybe I should move to Utah, where a middle class white citizen can still get a job speaking English.

Just another "smokescreen" law so the state looks like its doing something when it really refuses to! Cops already know where the illegals are - they see them every day when they go to a fender bender and the guy doesn't speak english, has no insurance, and is over 20 yrs. old. Or they go to a domestic disturbance call, and none of the adults speak English and they refuse to answer the door! The list goes on and on, but the bottom line is: THEY'RE ALREADY BREAKING THE LAW, how many dozens of laws do we need to ENFORCE the law!
For those of you who don't have to have them living next door to you with 20 people in a 2 bedroom house, the reality is that the cops have been told to look the "other way" unless the illegals are involved in a felony, even then most of them are booked, post bail and disappear!
I, for one, am going to do the best I can to keep my state rep. and senator from being re-elected again. It just goes on and on.......!

John

What do they mean limited resources?? Senator Lieberman tried to appropriate more money for ICE and Napolitano turned him down saying they had adequate resources. Why wont they just admit that theyre not going to target illegals for political reasons..

And why would you only target felony level crimes? maybe because it leaves 90% of illegals out of being targeted (who primarily commit misdemenor level crimes such as document fraud/benefits fraud).

Anyone else think it is freakin' ridiculous??

I hope none of you call yourself LDS. That so many of us would come here, was something prophesized by President Kimball years ago. Maybe you should blame him for all this. This is good news for our latino community.

Halibut

Bad enough that there is a catch and release policy at the border, now we're going to have the same thing happening with ICE enforcement. So they'll go to a place where there are a dozen illegals, one with a criminal record. They'll arrest the one and let the other 11 (illegals) go. What a country!

Immigrant

I am a legal immigrant and I had a fraud on my social security by an illegal immigrant. So, I do not like them as well! I work, pay my taxes and participate in a community. But honestly it sometimes irritates me how some illegals and legals come here, take the money from the government, use government sponsored housing and feel absolutely comfortable doing this for many, many years. They are not looking for a job and don't care about learning the language. So, I am against illegal immigration for sure!

Kyle Osborn

How much more will these undocumented immagrants have to SUFER of waiting, and being treated with discrimination! Yet undocumented criminals make innocent immigrants look bad. When will someone make justice into this mess up system. For God is my witness, and im trying to live a normal life, but I cant because I feel that I have to hide from those who hate immagrants; and yes we are all foreigner because one day we will have to leave this world, with death!

Mickey G

Immigrants by definition are legal entrants into our country. This discussion is dealing with illegal aliens. Best solutions, no jobs, no welfare, no schools, no housing! Then maybe they will go back where they belong.

There are no innocents among the illegal alien community.

Law-abiding

I think we Utahns have a right to expect our attorney general and law enforcement to protect US rather than the illegal immigrant community. I hope that Shurtleff still considers document fraud a criminal act and will prosecute that. Every single one of the so-called innocent illegal immigrants who carries fraudulent documents is a willing participant in crime and should be prosecuted like an American citizen would. The employers who look the other way and hire them ought to be heavily fined and/or jailed.

Perhaps Shurtleff and local law enforcement who don't want to do their jobs should view the video of the Maricopa County deputies who are sick and tired of being called racists for doing their jobs and have publicly called out the mayor of Phoenix. Bravo! Maybe they should read the Washington Times article about how Hezbollah and other terrorist organizations work with the Mexican drug cartels. Terrifying!

Ask yourself why our attorney general, some top law enforcement and some state legislators are so reluctant to crack down on illegal immigration. Ask them.

Wake up! We're in a lot more trouble than most people realize.

Ed Harris

Yes we can - DEPORT every one of these invaders!

Ivan

I don't think we should spend the state money on that matter. President Obama and federal lawmakers are going to fix the broken immigration law at the end of this year. We should wait for one more year to see what will happen. I saw that the senate agenda and immigration reform is scheduled for October 2009 and Mrs. Pelosi has said that she will promote the debate at the congress early next year. I agree we should deport all illegal immigrants with criminal records but I don't want to see more american kids without their parents. There are a lot of kids born of illegal parents. These kids are americans and they have no need to suffer.
