My all time favorite NBA player ever.. John Stockton. Jeff Hornaceck is right nobody will ever break his assist and steals record ever..
John is well missed. The Jazz lack what Stockton had a lot of, HEART. If this team would have half that heart as the Jazz team Stockton played for they would be winning championships. I'm used to think SLown was a great choach with Stockton and Malone, but I am starting to realize those two players where the ones the challenged the other players and were the true leaders. THis team doesn't have John's capabilities. DWILL is a great player, but not a leader, that is why CP3 is better he is a leader and has heart.
He was my all-time favorite. He loved the game, played hard. He shunned publicity, just did his best. The NBA needs a John Stockton now.
I really miss watching John play. I always knew the Jazz had a chance to win the game when John was playing and the game was close.
Thanks John
I love the Jazz when they came to town and were playing in the Salt Palace.
I sincerely did not enjoy anything about the Malone/Stockton era. It wasn't until they retired that I casually started watching again. I still haven't warmed up to them yet. I loved the days with Frank on the bench.
John Stockton is without a doubt the finest team player on that list of nominees. Had he done his 19 years in a big TV market, he'd be a zillionaire. Stockton-to-Malone remains the basketball phrase for the 80's and 90's... Stockton just got it done in a focused, classy, unpretentious manner so rarely seen in sports anymore. He is by all accounts a family man of integrity above all else. Kudos to John Stockton and the parents who raised him.
Congrats to both..My favorite two..They make sports what it is suppose to be..Enjoyed them for as many years as I can remember..A model of what every mother would want there boy to be.Win or loose they always were respected..Thanks guys for the happy years I have got to follow THT JAZZ..
A truly great player.
Thats what I feel whenever Stocktons name is mentioned. I happen to be an old timer, retired for 8 years and trying to be real impartial I have NEVER seen a player or remember anyone even close in any sport that conducted his life in a more exemplimary way. I have followed all sports all of my life. His dedication 1st to family and 2nd to all other aspects of his life are unmatched by any athlete. The way he retired, his lifestyle at the present are traits you just don't see with todays celebrities. Thanks John for everything you have done for yourself, family, friends and this state.
John Stockton is one of the finest human beings that ever played the game of basketball. You didn't have to be a Jazz fan to appreciate and admire what he done for Utah and the NBA. Michael Jordan will get all the air time Monday when the names are announced and John wouldn't have it any other way. John is the ultimate roll model for society. His hard word ethic and values are a model for every person living. Oh, and did I mention, he was a heck of a ball player too. I miss seeing him play, but will never forget about the person he always will be.
Yeah! I liked it when Layden had Jeff Wilkens (Franchise)and Ben Poquett (Gentle Ben) along with Rich Kelley. Those were the Golden Years. Malone and Stockton, those guys couldn't play a lick.
There will NEVER EVER be another John Stockton. He is truly one of a kind. The Jazz miss his strong silent leadership. Well deserved...congratulations Stock.
John. Thanks for all the fun. We appreciate your competitive spirit and toughness. We miss you more than ever.
Yea, whatever you all say. I had the opportunity to visit the Jazz locker room with one of my sons following a game in the mid 1990s. Not only did Stockton decline to acknowledge my son when he held out his hand for a high five (before the days of the fist bump), he also displayed the worst, most vulgar language I've ever heard as he walked by.
He may very well be the best at stats but he gets an "F" minus in the area some of you are talking about - carrying himself off the court.
Additionally, go up to him now at one of his kids soccer games in Spokane and attempt to talk to him and see what happens. You'll nearly get arrested for disturbing him.
Don't talk to me about John Stockton and class in the same sentence. It's not always true.
Stock was my man, one of the greatest, classiest players that ever laced up a pair of sneakers and those short shorts looked so good on him. a humble, dedicated man. I would almost wish he never left us, he could probably hold his own the shape he is in even today. This guy looks great and keeps in great shape, and does not look 47
Dennis Kelley was gone by then, i got one better AD AND BIG T. Maybe they can teach this current squad of underacheivers about heart, at least they tried 100 percent and had focus.
I don't know about everyone else, but I disagree with Dan Marjle saying that John wasn't the best shooter. Are you kidding me?! That dude was definitely one of the best all time shooters...he just didn't shoot a whole lot.
Growing up in Portland, I found Stockton and Malone so incredibly irritating...ugh, "why do the Blazers let them do that over and over again?!" I couldn't stand that combo!
However, as I got older and more respectful of the game, Stockton grew into one of my very favorite players. He was the ultimate point guard and a remarkable role model of professionalism.
We've all had our days when we're not our best. Also, he seems to be an intensely private man. All I know is what he demonstrated on the court, day in and day out. And he gave me a high-five when I was in 8th grade, which I suppose by itself earned my loyalty forever.
haha stockton is the best player ever! with no championships i mean
