From Provo -Alf

Who is gonna be the new member of the seventy

Olympia Reid

A great man! He speaks Spanish, Portuguese and French and was called as a GA at 41, now 57. Harvard MBA. But more than that, a spiritual giant!

Congrats!

He will do fantastic...I am so excited!!

Brent

Wonderful man. Looking forward to hearing his testimony.

Revelation is a Miracle

Continuing revelation is a miraculous thing. I felt the Spirit of the Lord confirm that Elder Anderson is called of God to the holy apostleship. I happily sustain him. What a miracle is the restoration of the gospel!

Now that there are double the amount of BYU grads than U of U grads, we can finally put to rest the old argument about the U monopolizing the Quorum of the Twelve.

In fact, there are just as many USU grads.

USU/BYU* President Boyd K. Packer (b. 1924), called 1970, Acting President 19942008, President 2008
USU * Elder L. Tom Perry (b. 1922), called 1974
UofU * Elder Russell M. Nelson (b. 1924), called 1984
BYU * Elder Dallin H. Oaks (b. 1932), called 1984
UofU * Elder M. Russell Ballard (b. 1928), called 1985
GWU * Elder Richard G. Scott (b. 1928), called 1988
UofU * Elder Robert D. Hales (b. 1932), called 1994
BYU * Elder Jeffrey R. Holland (b. 1940), called 1994
BYU * Elder David A. Bednar (b. 1952), called 2004
USU * Elder Quentin L. Cook (b. 1940), called 2007
BYU * Elder D. Todd Christofferson (b. 1945), called 2008
BYU * Elder Neil L. Andersen (b. 1951), called 2009

The Brazilian saints are probably ecstatic about the call of Elder Andersen to the Quorum of the Twelve. Since the passing of Elder James E. Faust, I don't think there's been a member of the Twelve and the First Presidency with so many ties to Brazil as Elder Andersen. He's a spiritual giant and will bless the entire Church.

VS

Elder Andersen was my Mission President in the France Bordeaux Mission. He was a great example of love and Christ-like service to all who knew him. I know he will serve the Lord faithfully in this new calling.

AT

He was also my mission president in France. I've had the feeling the last few weeks that he would be the new Apostle as I've watched him show up often in the Church News. He is a wonderful, spiritual man and will continue to bless many lives.

So What??

I agree with "What?". What difference does it make? It's a very petty thing to even mention. It may even be pride and we all know what the scriptures say about pride (even it it is misplaced pride in where someone went to school.)

In my opinion, his most impressive credential by far is the time spent in service to mankind as a dairy farmer. Everything since then must seem like a vacation to him. I try to remember farmers with reverence three times a day. u

BYU

The BYU thing is simply something that the U. of U. crowd started years ago and has been pointing out over and over in these blogs i.e. U. of U., the School of the Prophets. All 'Coug' is doing is updating the scoreboard, so the U. of U. fans can get passed this topic.

Thanks Elder Andersen

I confess I whooped with joy when his name was announced.

I--along with AT 11:11--have felt he was to be the one. Since the passing last December of Elder Worthlin, I have felt I personally would find him an awesome possibility for the vacancy. If quizzed about what address from last Oct. Conf. had helped me the most(and which I have thought about the most), it was his.

I heartily sustain him--and wish him the best.

a worthy substitute

We remember this Conference time, the loss of our beloved Elder Worthlin. And feel he would approve of Elder Andersen being "called off the bench and being put in the game."

ogden

previous list included first presidency and 12 apostles

As a native Idahoan who was

born and still lives in Pocatello I was thrilled to hear Elder Andersons name announced to fill the vacancy in the twelve. We are very proud of his Idaho heritage. May the Lord bless him in his new calling.

The Hogans

Neil Andersen is an amazing person and a very humble, spiritual man. He was my Stake President in Tampa back in 1992. I knew back then that he would be a G.A. someday! So exciting!!

Justin

Let's put the whole BYU-Utah rivalry thing to rest about LDS Church leadership. They are all men who have been called of God, regardless of educational accomplishments. I am firmly resolute in my support of Neil L. Andersen as the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve.

There....

is an aura of humility, seeing Elder Andersen as the new Apostle sitting right next to Elder Christofferson. The feeling of Brotherhood among the Brethren.
