So the abuse of children in Polygamy is on the back burner...? Mr. Shurtleff, the number one concern of citizens in Utah was the problems of Polygamy, and voters let you know that by re electing you. And now your putting it on the back burner. I for one will NOT vote for you again.

To Carey:

What about the abuse of children in Monogamy?
Should they be put on the back burner?

Dotti A.

Condoning evil makes people evil. Raping children is evil, and using God to do so certainly paves a mans eternal pathway to hell as well.

Carey

The fact is Utah has known for years the abuses in fundementalists latter day saints, and did nothing. I think the safety of children should be first on everyone's list. Putting this issue on the back burner, is like sweeping it under the rug. It makes me ashamed of Utah.

yamon

thay pout it on the back burner because thay have nothing to charge them with!! what mackes me sick is i see so many mormon people that hat the FLDS, yet there prophets joseph smith and others lived polighemy and aolso my so called freinds (LDS) I think so many of them forget that there latterday familys were killed by are Government. because thay lived polighemy. i think that i have wasted my time with the LDS church like so many others.

Re:yamon

Your argument is almost as bad as your spelling and grammar. The case is not about living polygamy, its about children being "married" (not legally) at a young age. The FLDS were breaking the state age of consent law. Children that were in households where this law was broken were in danger of abuse (of being "married" at a young age) so the state had to act. This has nothing to do with religion and everything to do with a group of people that broke the law.

Day in court

I doubt the men will get their day in court in Walther's court, Willie. Maybe a different court, not Walthers

Persecution

When you change the "state age of consent law" specifically in the name of a group, that's persecution. When the FLDS moved in, the marrying age was 14. Just because they "made" it illegal after the fact is simple persecution. If they were soo concerned about child welfare, the law would have been changed long before the FLDS arrived.
