That to me is where he will be the biggest playmaker. He needs to be there to be a running QB, for one, to protect Hall more. And secondly, to diversify the offense. He should throw a few passes too, so that defenses don't always think he's going to run all the time. Hall can run sometimes to as long as he hangs on to the ball. What my biggest hope is, is that they are secretly planning to use him at that position as well as receiver and that they are simply keeping it low profile so that defenses won't key on him.
BYU is going to need every trick they have to compete against UO.
Why not Oklahoma?
Did they? What was the score of the byu utah game last year??
OU Oklahoma
GO AGGIES! You guys should be taking about a real program! Anderson is going to be coach of the year!
I'm not talking about the outcome of the game, I'm talking about the fact that Utah couldn't defend trick plays. The last time they used trick plays on us we shut them down, hard.
Whether BYU will put points on the board vs OU, because they will. The question is more how many points can we keep Oklahoma from getting! The question will definitely be who will come to play defense. BYU has a lot more experience at defense this year and is looking to be a lot stronger than last year. (Which isn't tough to do, I know). So, I think a huge, HUGE key will be the pass rush, putting pressure on Sam Bradford. TCU, with their amazing pass rush couldn't seem to do it. But if my sources are correct Oklahoma is actually breaking in a new O-line the same as us. So that makes things interesting. Bernard Afutiti and Jordan Pendleton will be athletic pass rushers, and will hopefully bring the heat so keep the secondary from getting too burned. OU also has a productive run game. If Terrance Hooks and Matt Ah You up their game they should be able to fill the gaps well, and faster DB's will be able to contain the edges better than last year. It's going to be a heckuva game but I think BYU has a shot.
Oklahoma is going to be a heck of a game. Im a big cougar fan. I just dont know if they are going to win it. Its a big game.
All I hear on this board is how BYU is going to do against Oklahoma. Just remember, Florida State is on BYU's schedule too.
I was in diapers. It was sooo sweet! Those were the glory years--not a care in the world.
One of the Covey's played QB for L. Edwards and sustained multiple concussions the year he was a starter. Toward the end of the season, Edwards picked up Covey's helmet and noted that all or most of the padding had been removed. Covey claimed that the padding restricted his head movement, so he took it out.
So, this new Stephen Covey...brother, son, nephew, ???
An asset to the team??? What do you think, folks?
Remember Tulane, Utah and TCU are all on BYU's schedule. It is going to be a tuff and long year for BYU.
What term memory loss? Trick plays and running it down the utes throats put the points on the board. Time you go visit the U hospital to get some treat for ute disorder.
Oklahoma is the first game on BYU's schedule. ONE game at a time!
Maybe Covey can take over the important job of self-righteous commenter vacated by Elder Collie. Without it we might start to think the Cougars aren't doing the right things on and off the field and loose our respect for you as stripling warriors.
Looks like you already got that job.
Talk to Peterson and the Broncos, they will tell you how to beat OUch.
have in common with the Utes defense?
Answer: Both are excited to catch passes from Max Hall!
Too bad the coaches didn't give Covey a chance to play some QB last season in the Northern Iowa, UCLA, New Mexico, or Wyoming games. Would have been nice to see what he could do in a real game.
Coaches can talk all they want about giving guys a chance to play but it's always the same old same old because coaches are very superstitious and don't want to go outside their comfort zones. I'm surprised Brandon Doman didn't make that happen considering he went through the same thing and didn't get to play QB until Peterson got hurt in the next-to-last game of the 2000 season (New Mexico). I guess now Doman has become just another coach.
