Why can't the government honor a contract?
These jokers don't know the first thing when it comes to power generation or energy. The only thing the know how to do is to TAX IT!

These companies would have a good case in a country that had a constitution and believed in the rule of law. But in a banana republic, they are just out of luck.

If you can show scientifically valid data that drilling and producing oil & gas using modern technology would hurt anything significant, then don't allow drilling. If you can't, then allow it.
Realize that "I don't like the way it looks" or "fifty year old technology would have scarred the land" or "I don't think we should drill any more" are NOT scientifically valid.
Science should be the basis of scientific decisions.
Those bidders walked into the auction knowing the parcels were controversial, and they knew why. Responsible energy companies wouldn't touch them with a 10-foot pole.
