Wow this guy is only charged with a couple of misdemeanors for hitting a person and leaving them there possibly to die and a person who does some writing on a wall gets the same level of charges.
doesn't surprise me. he won't serve any time behind bars, get a slap on the wrist and get his keys back so he can perfect his reckless driving. and this after taking the time to obscure his plate. how about something more appropriate. c'mon. cyclists don't get any respect from law enforcement or the courts. there are exceptions, but for the most part cyclists are considered a nuisance despite being legal vehicles in all 50 states. just another example of how dangerous Utah roads have become and people's growing lack of responsibility and accountability.
this guy will walk. and he left the scene, did not care...repeat did not care!! if it was my son , would not matter i taught them how to respect all life wheter amimal or human...but this guy seems to be self centered and missed that lesson..now he only get misdeamnors!!
Attempted homicide is the minimum charge he should face and unless the woman with him contacted the police she should be charged as an accomplice! Class B misdemeanors are an insult to cyclists, kids, and pedestrians like Bob Elbel who were killed by hit and run drivers.
He might escape "justice" from the courts, but I wouldn't be too sad if his Bimmer was "accidentally" sent to the crusher after being tested for evidence, which has happened before.
As for cyclists getting respect from the courts, we are as yet still too small a minority for that to happen, when our ride share reaches over 10% then maybe we will get treated like the vehicles the law says we are.
I hope the guy that got hit. Will sue him for his BMW..
Sue him for his BMW??? That won't even come close to what the hospital and doctor bills are. He has been in ICU for 2 weeks tomorrow. I think the county prosecutor is going to make an example of this spoiled brat. He can get 5 years on each misdemeanor A charge and I would expect the judge to order him to pay FULL restitution which will probabably be well over a million $$ when it's all over. The sad part is this scum has stolen the quality of life and a person's passion. How much is that worth??
By the way, the graffitti artist that vandalized the police cars was charged with a FELONY!
I am outraged! I have been hit and nearly hit by so many stupid drivers, sometimes as part of a prank or a driver having "fun." The latter should go to the gallows!
