Are you serious? 60 Days?!!!!
You break the law, you're going to pay. I don't feel sorry for them in the LEAST. Just because you are an athelete doesn't exempt you from the laws the rest of us have to live by.
Idiots, I bet their mom's are just so proud.
60 days is too short. How about 6 months? I'm glad they are expelled. Did they think they were still going to serve missions?
What knuckleheads!
RC said it best.
I don't understand the name calling, grow up adults unless you are Jr high school students making these comments. The guys got what the judge felt was adequate, let them do their time and service and allow them to go on with their lives without more judgement.
"...I'm sorry and ashamed I got caught...".
WHATEVER!
Anonymous 7:10:
Live their lives "without more judgement?" Isn't that what got them into trouble in the first place?
I'm tired of so many who claim that we shouldn't judge others. We do judge others, including ourselves, at practically every moment of every day.
Their excuse that their 'first time freedom away from home was too much to handle' is HOGWASH!
Hundreds of thousands other BYU students have been in the same situation throughout the school's long past. Why didn't they all 'go off the rails' too?
Sorry, but they have no good excuse for what they did.
I don't understand why they were so bent on getting to BYU it's obvious they could care less about the institution or the laws of our land for that matter. Kids are dumb.
Good, BYU deserves better students.
I would say that in addition to the jail time, some serious, heartfelt, repentance is in order. These young men need to experience the miracle that is the healing power of the atonement.
Anyone ever heard of repentance and forgiveness?
kids are stupid. byu isn't the only school in the state. come to USU, it's a great place to grow less stupid.
Yeah I've heard of repentance and forgiveness. I've heard that the repentance process endorsed by the Savior involves restitution. The only reason this is in the newspaper is because they were athletes. Otherwise we all would be wasting our time commenting on some other dumb article.
It seems like I am reading these kinds of articles about BYU students gone wrong every week.
No one comes to USU unless there is no other choice in Utah, that is why. Even leftover recruits have to go somewhere, so USU is always a backup. The school has a 99% admittance rate. Not hard to get into at all.
These kids deserve all the punishment they are given. Repentance and forgiveness come after a punishment is in place. It's up to them if they really want to repent. Saying you're sorry in front of a judge doesn't mean you want forgiveness. They have to change their actions. If they hadn't have been caught, do you really think they would have stopped robbing? No way!
Sorry, but repentance preachers need to realize that punks need to be taught a lesson.
Why Y---
I loved your comment. I will be laughing about that for the rest of the day!! Less stupid, that's great and oh so true about any school.
These kids made their bed now they have to sleep in it. It is sad though.
Hey Ernest--you focus so much on your hatred for the Y, that it seems like you read them every week. But really, why do you bag on the Y so much? BYU should be commended for expelling the students and giving discipline, just like the discipline given over the football recruiting weekend. Athletes given big egos are going to screw up. This says nothing about the Y at all, but about the individual athletes. What does say something about BYU is the way they handled the situation, and they did so the best way they could.
This sort of thing happens every day at other schools. The only difference here is that BYU is a Church school with an honor code, so any infraction gets major attention. How many times does this sort of thing happen at other schools of similar enrollment size? My money says it's a lot more.
Ernest, grow up and recognize BYU for what it is--one of the top schools in the country that tries to instill integrity in its students and encourages them to give back to the community.
these idiots would be commended at Florida or Florida State for serving the time and back on the team by fall. I commend BYU for expelling them and doing the right thing. Even as a U grad, I see that the school is standing up for the right not the wrong. You do the crime - you do the time. Atleast at BYU..
